SEPTEMBER 11, 2009 - Electronic Arts announced today that a playable demo of NBA LIVE 10 is now available for download on Xbox LIVE™ Marketplace for all Xbox LIVE Gold Subscribers. Play as the Orlando Magic or the Los Angeles Lakers and re-write, or relive, last year’s NBA Finals match-up. The demo will be available to Xbox LIVE Silver members and on the PLAYSTATION® Network™ on September 17th, 2009.

With a renewed focus on creating an authentic 5 on 5 basketball videogame experience, NBA LIVE 10 introduces a myriad of gameplay improvements to the long running franchise. Computer controlled players will now move and react like their real life counterparts with enhanced player A.I. (artificial intelligence), and authentic, team-specific playbooks. In addition, all new dribbling, passing and shooting systems now give users more control over individual players than ever before seen in the franchise. Gamers can now control every movement as they break down a defender on the perimeter, drive to the basket, and finish at the basket using their left or right hand. From dishing no look passes to releasing a step back shot early or late to avoid a block from a defender, NBA LIVE 10 lets you to create highlight reel plays on your terms.

NBA LIVE 10 also features significant improvements in the franchises overall presentation. Arena specific lighting and crowd behaviors, signature pre-game rituals and celebrations, evolving storylines, and an all new broadcast package are just some of the many enhancements that will ensure that NBA LIVE 10 looks and sounds like a real life NBA game.

I guess it's just my opinion then but I think 2k10 looks much better than Live to be honest. But yeah, I'm very impressed with the strides they've made.

Been playing the EU PSN demo off and on for about 4hrs (As always, I gotto the EU Store to get things earlier in the day on update day. I'm a USer.) and at first, I was thinking "Ok, this is a Live game...". Maybe it's just me but the controls were not difficult at all to get down because the basic movements with right joystick is still there from previous Lives or maybe it's just because they're very intuitive for me.

That being said, I can't say if I'm impressed or not. I will say that I like what's there, for the most part. One thing that annoys me is sometimes passing on the move, unless your freestyle passing, it seems, the players, at time, pause before receiving the ball. That's an old Live issue that still needs to be resolved. I will go freestyle only, my next go round, to see if I may have to stick to freestyle passing, only.

There are still issues with lack of responsiveness when pressing steal. Haven't noticed if rebounding button presses are still lacking, as well.

I like the atmosphere, a lot. I felt like I was really playing a b-ball game I would normally be watching on TV. The sweat issue is still there. Seems like everybody sweating profusely ,too early. Not sure if I like the colorful look. I can see how some people would say it looks cartoonish but I'm used to the colors, already.

I think I'll leave it there because I know it's not the finished product and there is a lot that I do like and a few other things I don't. Not to mention I wanna see the real effects DNA/365 has on the gameplay.

It's a bit inconsistent, but I find i kinda like the fact that the CPU will punish you for not being in the right position. If you sag off on the weakside, then try to recover, you cant just run out and suddenly be stuck on the offensive player...if you don't recover with discipline you'll get blown by. Love that. I think the positional defense thing is cool...but I can see the new cheese are being the shake/bake and pull up game.

Cheese isn't just dunking. Cheese is exploiting a systems weakness repeatedly at the expense of realism. ****** players will figure out the new easiest way to score, and they will pound it down your sim throat. The midrange game and lack of consistent contact on the perimeter will definitely be cheese, and there will be lots of whine to go with it, lol.

Don't want cheese? Don't play cheesers. It won't be Live's fault...they've given folks a nifty offensive/defensive balance to work with if you choose, and it feels great.

I can honestly say I dont think the mid range game will be cheese either. Especially with the DNA.

I literally give up on open drives to the basket when I see him around. If He even sniffs me coming in the in the paint he's either gettin a steal or blocking a shot its that simple.

And it doesn't even matter when he's matched up w/ a guard on the perimeter because as soon as I get by him he blocks me from behind. And if I try and kick out to the perimeter the guards are there to pick it off.

My post players don't fair any better because they can't get a shot over the top. If they beat him with a quick move he just blocks the shot from behind.

On defense it gets even worse because I get attacked from all sides now. Nelson and Lewis bomb 3's all day and I have no answer because my teammates never get out on them. Even when they do its to late the shot is already up.

Carter and Pietrus run the mid range game all day. They pop out from those screens and burn me all the time. When I stop them from hitting that they force the drive and 90% they get by me because "The Enforcer" is constantly setting moving screens.

Games where I address these guys is when "That Man" starts to eat up the boards. He gets so many dunks I don't even get angry any more I just accept I can't beat him.

Transition buckets are not even apart of my game because I can't get clean looks because of the speed demons. They become little enforcers waiting until the real one comes blazing down the court.

So thats my story I've just given up on playing w/ my favorite team. Maybe I'll see the "light" when I play the full game on the baseline cam.
LOL !!! Yo I laughed throughout reading this entire post. Dwight is a beast in here. LOL

And RayAP you right, it is SO ANNOYING to watch a ball get loose or knocked away from you, only to watch in horror as all the defenders are racing toward the ball and eventual fast break opportunity, all the while your players just go into "Pass That Piff Mode" like they so high they couldn't possibly care less about retaining possession!!! Fix this EA!!!

I'm done with this demo until the full game is released I just can't stomach it anymore. I'm getting too frustrated playing it, I've concluded I plain suck at this game Lol.

I can't dribble anywhere without getting stripped, I can't make an open jumpshot for my life (I rarely get them anyway) and I'm terrible at finishing at the rim (Courtesy of "The Enforcers")

On Def I can't provide help D and I can't close out on shooters. I'm still going to give the full game a chance for some reason.

I see the potential in the game and I'm not going to give up on it until I've played the full version. I have this small glimmer of hope that something will click once I play the final version of the game.

# 1028 TreyIM2 @ 09/18/09 12:25 AM
Just to point out to those not understanding why the ability to push up on defense is "inconsistent" - It all has to do with your pressure settings. If u leave it at game default, it's on Auto, which of course means that the CPU will choose the level of pressure as it see fit and on which player.
I set mine to Tight for everyone and I can always push up on D so that magic force field is no longer there.

That being said, I am getting more and more into the demo. I think the game could definitely use more animations in terms of some of the movement transitions but this still isn't the final product. Can't wait to see how it pans out.

Lol you can't deceive "The Enforcer" and his Speed Demons with such simple tactics that's just crazy talk.

Obi sez: Don't play me like dat.

Seriously tho Jano...sounds like you gotta slow down a bit bro. The defense is really not that good, lol.

I do hate when they jump the nano second you hit the shoot button, and end up blocking it before you even get into the shooting animation.

I figure I might as well put in my two cents, given I've been lurking this forum for the better half of a month or so. I've been playing the demo pretty much non-stop the past week or so (Orlando mostly, just because I like jacking 3s), and for the most part it has been a positive experience. I won't regurgitate what has largely been said, but can state, above all the things I like about the player control, aesthetic etc... that the game is FUN, and this is an important point in evaluating any game I think. Nothing like chaining together a series of good offensive possessions to really get your rhythm going.

Having said that, and I hate to revert so quickly to the negative as the game really does deserve more praise than what I am giving it here, there are some key matters that are a concern/annoyance to me:

- The teammate AI kinda sucks. This is a pretty generic statement, but the fact of the matter is, so many of the points I give up are due to the fact that the AI gives little to no help in any aspects of closing out or rebounding (dudes just stand there while opponents come and pick the ball off the ground). The closing out one is particularly annoying just because I can play perfect defense on someone, but then they just pass the ball to a dude on the wing, who due to the AI's helpful hand, can pull up before I can switch to the other guy and meaningfully contest, resulting in a basket.

I'm only really annoyed with the rebounding as a byproduct of this shoddy AI defense - the mechanics behind it work reasonably well, as if I focus on rebounding with Dwight, I can box out/get into position and this is all quite seamless. However, this is usually a frivolous exercise, as the opponents rarely miss when I've left the defense to the AI.

- The aforementioned "everyone-standing-around" issue with loose balls lets down what would otherwise be a decent game mechanic.

- I can appreciate what EA has done with regards to inside dribbling, as this has often been the onus of past basketball titles. However, the current "insta-TO" situation is probably too severe, as I've gotten offensive rebounds where I land under the ring and then immediately turn it over without any chance to react.

But ultimately, it is perhaps most telling that I am still incredibly likely to purchase the game on Oct 6 DESPITE these flaws, and I think that speaks a lot about the quality of what is there.

Also, as an unrelated note, Carmelo in the hangar is prettttty slick. And I'm not even a fan of him in real life.

All of the above. There are situations where my teammates are watching the ball, and I just can't believe it. They seem completely unaware of the ball once it is loose.

Hopefully this, and some of the other things you have mentioned are fixed when the Synergy updates hit.

I am loving the mid range game and the control you have on offense and defense. The game really feels authentic to basketball. I see the differences between the two teams, Howards defensive beast, but Gasol and Bynum are a monster defensive tandem down low also. Kobe is all most unstoppable, while the Magic can pound down low or kick out outside for the three ball.

Defense is a mix of on ball and low post positioning and gambling for the ball. The game is not perfect but this is a major improvement not just for Live but for basketball gaming.

These are the exact same problems I have w/ the game Lol.

And to HMcCoy Man I'm exaggerating a lot about the offense I'm still able to score. And this game provides me w/ the most excitement I have ever had scoring in a bball game.

Because of how tough the "Demons and The Enforcers" play on D, it feels real good when I go on scoring runs. Knowing that I had to work to get that drive or nail the mid range jumper makes scoring feels great.

But most of my frustrations are coming from the defensive end and how my AI players are of no help to me. When my guys give up 5 straight jumpers it just irritates me to no end.

Or when I'm on offense and as I'm driving the lane I see some some great rotations that I never see my teammates display.

Brinkybon's post was perfect in my opinion when it came to the Team AI issues. Its already tough enough to guard and out rebound one player.

It's just ridiculous that sometimes I have to practically guard every player on the floor myself in order to get a stop.

This is the reason why I'm putting the demo down because right now I'm just not able to do that because of my issues w/ the broadcast camera.

I still had fun w/ the game even despite all these issues so that's why I'm still going to give the full vers. a chance.
