  • Road to The Show will feature a new non-linear decision making system, which will allow you to make big decisions that matter.
  • More player and team specific personality will be included in this year's game.
  • Spin of the ball off of the bat has been greatly improved with new hit types like curving hits down the line.
  • Four new Historical Stadiums are included in the game. (Old Yankee Stadium, Hubert H. Humphry Metrodome, Shea Stadium, Sun Life Stadium) - Nice detective work 13SM13!
  • All batter walkups in Diamond Dynasty will show the player card types on screen.
  • Show Track allows for some new presentational elements in this year's game.
  • More player specific home run swings.
  • Both Ken Griffey Jr. and Ken Griffey Sr. will be on the legends roster for MLB The Show 17.

Finally something about physics. It's been a few years since I have bothered with buying since the rental has left me feeling blah about the game.

So I will rent again first and if the physics are actually improved I might buy.

Haven't really been paying much attention to the hyping of the game this winter, but I would be pretty happy with improved ball physics (spin/hook/slice) and some more detailed cloth "physics" texturing on the uniforms. Maybe a tweak to the CPU AI as well.

I do want new player models for MLB '18 and expansion mode in MLB '19 though. The idea of an NBA2K style branding/expansion mode in a baseball game makes me weak in the knees. Hopefully some of these things are in development.

Personally, I'd put branding/relocation at the top of my list. I don't think it will happen this year though. But man I'd love to bring an MLB franchise to Tennessee.

I think they'd need 2-3 years to install an expansion mode complete with logo-making, artwork, uniform creation, other details, and with even a limited stadium creator. It's really just a question of when and how many resources they devote to it. Especially as MLB gets closer to its next expansion, probably within a decade for sure, the noise for an expansion mode will only get louder.

Except for the stadium creator, they really already have all the other things in Diamond Dynasty. Logo and uniform creators are really good in DD.

I'd be fine with a couple of generic MLB level stadiums to pick from.

They already have the logo-making, artwork, uniform creation, team name and location in the game in Diamond Dynasty. I don't play that mode but I created a team and logo just for something to do. The art mechanics are actually pretty good once you figure out how to use them.

The only thing they would have to do is make it available for franchise and they could do that without a stadium creator. If you don't want to use a current stadium there are now 8 classic stadiums and multiple milb stadiums available. Everything needed to make this work in franchise is already in the game, they only need to add it to franchise. If they don't have developer hours available to make a stadium creator they could add that in a future year.

Thats even if MLB is willing to sign off on it. Major League Baseball seem to be the most stringent of the the 4 top American sports leagues, almost to the point of overprotection that holds back SCE's potential to make the most ultimate baseball video game in, well, forever.

DD's uniform creator definitely is a good base for a franchise uni creator. However, would like to be able to import logos/wordmarks so we could better replicate classic uni's.

There's probably something to this. The Show is awesome year after year, but it's also definitely the weakest of the Big Four (five if you want to include FIFA/PES) in terms of team/league/player customization. It would be interesting to know exactly how much MLB will actually allow in terms of user creation.

That could be a valid point but since it is already in Diamond Dynasty it doesn't seem like a major hurdle to include the already existing feature in franchise.

You do make a valid point about MLB. If I was running a professional sport I'd want to promote in any way possible. The more interest in the show, the more potential interest in MLB. Unfortunately Russell does a better job of promoting the show than MLB does in promoting their own game. They are lucky baseball is such a beautiful game which tends to promote itself.

You are correct.

I have been playing this game for years and I have never been let down. It is hands down in my opinion the best sports game on the market. Madden and 2K are just not there when it comes to in depth franchise. The only wish i have is that inter league schedules change every year. This has been my 1 hope every year in that we are not forced to play the same teams every year. I understand this can cause allot of heartbreak and headaches in the programming department, but if they can fix it to how it is now in real life it would be awesome. As a Texas Ranger fan I want the ability to play all the NL teams in a franchise setting, not just the ones in a certain division year after year

yeah, MLB and MLBPA rules and contractual agreements certainly put limitations on what the dev team may be allowed to do. But in addition there are both advantages and disadvantages of The Show being a 1st party Sony game/Playstation exclusive also.

Good that they don't have to worry about as many platforms - and now only have to focus on PS4 version since PS3 and Vita versions are retired. Which makes me hopeful this year's game will be the biggest step forward on this gen.

But not as good that their revenue stream is more limited. Imagine if this was a 3rd party title that could also be sold on Xbox, maybe some Nintendo platform and PC/Steam? Instead of 900k copies or whatever they sell per year now as a Playstation exclusive, what kind of budget and resources would they have if they sold more like 2 million units across all platforms?

That being said, The Show is the only game I buy every year, and I am thoroughly satisfied with my purchase every... single... time. Year after year, the quality of this game is top notch. And considering the dev team is less than half the size of the other Big 2 sports titles (certain basketball and football titles), it is quite an accomplishment.

The game is as good as it is precisely because it is playstation exclusive. They don't have to spread the developers across two platforms.

Regarding MLB contractual agreements limiting create-a-team in franchise mode - I doubt the MLB contract is much different than NFL, NHL or NBA which all allow expansion teams. If it is the MLB who is blocking this feature then the MLB needs to replace Ebeneezer Scrooge with someone who understands marketing.

Man I still remember fondly my "Nashville Fury" Team from ASB. Played in the "clear monster" with that plexiglass monster wall in right. I hope the show comes up with an expansion system at some point.

I think Sony could benefit by giving MLB the Show 16 away as a ps plus title. Alot of Playstation owners complain about not getting a full triple A game and this could be the cure for February. I doubt at this point many people are going to purchase 16 if they haven't already but with 50 million PS4's in the wild this franchise could find new fans. I have never understood why NBA2K is given as a ps plus title before their next release but Sony refuses to push their own very respectable sports title.

Excited about the news I had skipped the past 2 years of show and haven't played on the PS4 yet, so can't wait to be surprised by their effort. Love Griffey, and the additional news is great too, wonder what decisions in The Road they are talking about.

After a full blown, deep and involved Owner/team president mode, the next thing down on my list would be a good stadium creator. As was mentioned though, my guess would be that MLB is preventing it, do to a misplaced belief that it would take something away from the real stadiums. It would be so awesome though. I would spend untold hours building something from the ground up, if given the chance.
