MLB The Show 17 News Post

The folks at Sony Interactive Entertainment break down their MLB The Show 17 trailer which was released earlier this month. Here are some nuggets you'll find mentioned:
  • New hairstyles made it into the game (Shown in the new AA locker room).
  • Road to The Show will feature a new non-linear decision making system, which will allow you to make big decisions that matter.
  • More player and team specific personality will be included in this year's game.
  • Spin of the ball off of the bat has been greatly improved with new hit types like curving hits down the line.
  • Four new Historical Stadiums are included in the game. (Old Yankee Stadium, Hubert H. Humphry Metrodome, Shea Stadium, Sun Life Stadium) - Nice detective work 13SM13!
  • All batter walkups in Diamond Dynasty will show the player card types on screen.
  • Show Track allows for some new presentational elements in this year's game.
  • More player specific home run swings.
  • Both Ken Griffey Jr. and Ken Griffey Sr. will be on the legends roster for MLB The Show 17.
What else did you spy in the trailer?

The first thing I noticed were Shea Stadium, Joe Robbie Stadium, and the Metrodome are back.

New historical stadiums are:

- Old Yankee Stadium
- Hubert H. Humphry Metrodome
- Shea Stadium
- Sun Life Stadium

(you can see them in the background at the beginning of the trailer)

Am I the only one excited that both Ken Griffey Jr and Sr are in the game?!

Man Ramone probably gave us some great information but dang technical difficulties caused us not to be able to hear.

This video put a nice big smile on my face to start the day!

New improved ball physics confirmed!

4 built from the ground up classic stadiums returning!

And Ramone Russell is one funny guy!

Can't wait to hear about all the new info in the coming weeks!

The first feature bleeped out had the same amount of syllables as "Player Models". I'm calling it now!

Sounds like those worried about the graphics will have some good news coming.

to be totally honest, i doubt it. I do bet though that they are working slowly on new player models. but probably will not see those in the game for another couple releases. Im sure its something they will/want to do but its something that will also take a huge amount of time to do considering they would have to redo all the animations with new models. and since this game releases every year its something that is slowly being done when devs find time to work on them a bit over time.

Looks like they transferred the remaining PS3 era classic stadiums. I think its safe to say those are the only classic stadiums we'll see this year. I'm glad I'll be able to play in Shea again.

Edit: I shouldn't say transferred since Russell said they were built from the ground up.

They might be the only new classic stadiums we ever see or for at least a really long time. Sony already had the license for these stadiums that's why they could add them back. But any other stadiums that have never been in MLB The Show would need a new license which I am guessing is not cheap. I would love so much to see Veterans Stadium added someday. I would even be glad to pay extra for it. But most likely any new stadiums we get in MLB The Show 18 and beyond will be Minor league and perhaps spring training stadiums. If they make them really cool and different looking then what's already in the game then I would be very happy with that.

I will say this though I am so happy that they rebuilt all of them from the ground up instead of just porting them over from the PS3 versions.

I think the only 2 stadiums that will be missing from 17 looks like the soon to be classic Turner Field unless they are keeping it since it's in 16 and RFK Stadium. Not sure if you all remember but the Washington Nationals played in RFK Stadium for a year or 2 before the new stadium was ready.

Glad to see the Dome back in the game! Just one question, for any devs that might possibly see this. Can any of the devs check to see the Metrodome's right field wall is scaled to 23 feet? I've always thought the dome's right field wall seemed way too high in the PS3 version. I could find some comparison pics from real life and compared to Target Field's right field wall (which is also 23 feet tall) if that helps.

People can shut up now about Francisco Lindor's face.

LOL'd at Russell being bleeped - SPOILERS! Yep - Old Yankee, Shea, Metrodome & Sun Life carried over, will we have the Braves' Turner Field?

Edit:

I wonder, since this series could be traced back to the late 90s, what kind of licensing do they have to all the stadiums that were in the game back then? What allows them to keep Shea, the Metrodome, and others in the game every year? Is it just because they were never removed from one version or another in the first place?

That's just wishful thinking, of course; but it would be so cool.

Shea Stadium!!!

Lindor's face looks perfect

Player Cards during Batter Walk-Ups in DD is a nice touch

The Show began in 2006. I "think" that is all they are missing with maybe the exception of some re-configurations like in Toronto and KC changing their turf.

No big surprise, but Ramone did confirm that Turner Field would be a classic stadium on Twitter.
