MLB The Show 17 News Post

The folks at Sony Interactive Entertainment break down their MLB The Show 17 trailer which was released earlier this month. Here are some nuggets you'll find mentioned:
  • New hairstyles made it into the game (Shown in the new AA locker room).
  • Road to The Show will feature a new non-linear decision making system, which will allow you to make big decisions that matter.
  • More player and team specific personality will be included in this year's game.
  • Spin of the ball off of the bat has been greatly improved with new hit types like curving hits down the line.
  • Four new Historical Stadiums are included in the game. (Old Yankee Stadium, Hubert H. Humphry Metrodome, Shea Stadium, Sun Life Stadium) - Nice detective work 13SM13!
  • All batter walkups in Diamond Dynasty will show the player card types on screen.
  • Show Track allows for some new presentational elements in this year's game.
  • More player specific home run swings.
  • Both Ken Griffey Jr. and Ken Griffey Sr. will be on the legends roster for MLB The Show 17.
What else did you spy in the trailer?

For those wondering (in case you missed it last year) about Stadiums and the amount of work/time it takes. Here you go. Came straight from Ramone's twitter page.

Stadiums take over 6 months to build, we only have 8 stadium artists. They have about 8 stadiums each.

Biggest question for me is, will auto-fielding third baseman finally dive for those balls down the line?

As for the stuff being bleeped, if it is what I think it is, so many people who like to complain will be putting their foots in their mouths.
Just curious... What do you think Ramone said?

I remember reading this last year. Its amazing to me how dedicated and patient they have to be to create each stadium and make them as authentic and good looking as they do.

Kudos to the stadium creators at SCEA.

That and they only have 75 employees that work on the Show (If I remember correctly Ramone mentioned this last year). Compare that to 2K which has over 175 that work on the basketball game. People wonder why things get implemented slowly that is exactly why. RESOURCES, RESOURCES, RESOURCES.

I know I have been accused of being a fan boy, more that once, but I am getting really excited for The Show 17.

I really think this one is going to be epic. I think that the team has been working on several projects for years and that we are finally going to see some of those projects hit the stage. Maybe I am being to optimistic or hopeful, but I really do feel like something special is on its way.

PS This is the way a thread is supposed to be. 7 pages and not a single troll. Thank you. It takes all of us to right the ship.

You're not the only one really excited for The Show 17.

I'm excited to know what was said but not heard during this rewind.

I hate to jump on the hype train but the players in the RTTS scene look at a lot different than those normally seen in the game. Much more of a baseball player type of frame and the uniform texture was definitely different. Really cool.
As others have said, don't know if completely new player models are coming but there definitely seems to have been some fine tuning...
we shall see

I keep telling myself that this is the year that I will not come to all the pre-game releases stuff and not do the Twitch feed thing this year but... I can't see that happening... this is too good

I have a question for the devs. Would Sony ever, and I do mean ever even consider releasing this game on the Xbox 1, being that Xbox doesn't have its own AAA baseball game? Btw, I don't own an Xbox and have supported The Show every year since The Show 10. Just feel this game should be brought to a broader audience and not just limited to PlayStation gamers.

So I hope that we can still get Griffey's jersey to just say "Griffey" without the "Jr."?

Ramone's given reason in the trailer wasn't a very good one. Players with the same last names play on the same teams all the time, and they don't change their jersey to differentiate each other. Check replays of games with multiple "Rodriguez's" or multiple "Martinez's" in recent years. No initials, no changes to the jersey, nothing.

Even if the entire Griffey household is on one team, complete with the wife and kids, the jersey should not say "jr." on it.

That being said, I'm glad both Griffeys are in.

And this is my favorite quote of the month:

This is ok, but misses a huge set of hit types, like curving hits down the line, ........., ....................... there's more to this but can't spill the beans just yet. Wouldn't be a tease if you gave out all the info right? And I had to be very brief in the rewind for flow and consistency purposes. But just know there's a lot more to this.
That is GREAT to hear, and I can't wait for more details.

This will never happen. The Show is developed By SONY San Diego. It would be like Microsoft developing an Exclusive title for the PS4.

You're overthinking this, I put Jr. on the back of his jersey just for the teaser trailer, just so people would notice it. Just to have a reason to reveal Sr. was joining the Legend roster in 17.

Y'know...with the ability to move the pitcher/batter around...I wonder if that means more customization within the motions/stances?

My biggest hope is the add more to diamond dynasty that doesn't involve playing online. I really loved that mode, but playing single games or Conquest got boring pretty fast. I would be awesome to have season or franchise mode as part of DD since I really don't enjoy playing online, but do enjoy the card collecting and missions aspect.

I hope the Throwback mode is nothing like that crappy RBI Baseball.

Idk if anyone noticed it but, when they showed Francisco Lindor's new face you can see his mini curly dreads

Hopefully guys like Jemile Weeks and Cameron Maybin got the hair treatment as well. Weeks has dreads in The Show, but hasn't had them for about 3 seasons now in real life. Maybin doesn't have them in The Show and has had them for 3 seasons now in real life.

Great video! Thanks for taking the time to do this, Ramone

Has there been anything about pitchers, mainly with RTTS? I always like to build up a good pitcher so any info will be welcome but more than happy to wait if that is coming in the future media realeses

I have seen it with top rated reaction/defensive rated 3B in the game. It's not often but I have seen some stabs on auto fielding.
