You are correct.

Re: More MLB The Show 17 Details Revealed

I have been playing this game for years and I have never been let down. It is hands down in my opinion the best sports game on the market. Madden and 2K are just not there when it comes to in depth franchise. The only wish i have is that inter league schedules change every year. This has been my 1 hope every year in that we are not forced to play the same teams every year. I understand this can cause allot of heartbreak and headaches in the programming department, but if they can fix it to how it is now in real life it would be awesome. As a Texas Ranger fan I want the ability to play all the NL teams in a franchise setting, not just the ones in a certain division year after year

You do make a valid point about MLB. If I was running a professional sport I'd want to promote in any way possible. The more interest in the show, the more potential interest in MLB. Unfortunately Russell does a better job of promoting the show than MLB does in promoting their own game. They are lucky baseball is such a beautiful game which tends to promote itself.
yeah, MLB and MLBPA rules and contractual agreements certainly put limitations on what the dev team may be allowed to do. But in addition there are both advantages and disadvantages of The Show being a 1st party Sony game/Playstation exclusive also.

Good that they don't have to worry about as many platforms - and now only have to focus on PS4 version since PS3 and Vita versions are retired. Which makes me hopeful this year's game will be the biggest step forward on this gen.

But not as good that their revenue stream is more limited. Imagine if this was a 3rd party title that could also be sold on Xbox, maybe some Nintendo platform and PC/Steam? Instead of 900k copies or whatever they sell per year now as a Playstation exclusive, what kind of budget and resources would they have if they sold more like 2 million units across all platforms?

That being said, The Show is the only game I buy every year, and I am thoroughly satisfied with my purchase every... single... time. Year after year, the quality of this game is top notch. And considering the dev team is less than half the size of the other Big 2 sports titles (certain basketball and football titles), it is quite an accomplishment.

The game is as good as it is precisely because it is playstation exclusive. They don't have to spread the developers across two platforms.

Regarding MLB contractual agreements limiting create-a-team in franchise mode - I doubt the MLB contract is much different than NFL, NHL or NBA which all allow expansion teams. If it is the MLB who is blocking this feature then the MLB needs to replace Ebeneezer Scrooge with someone who understands marketing.

Man I still remember fondly my "Nashville Fury" Team from ASB. Played in the "clear monster" with that plexiglass monster wall in right. I hope the show comes up with an expansion system at some point.

I think Sony could benefit by giving MLB the Show 16 away as a ps plus title. Alot of Playstation owners complain about not getting a full triple A game and this could be the cure for February. I doubt at this point many people are going to purchase 16 if they haven't already but with 50 million PS4's in the wild this franchise could find new fans. I have never understood why NBA2K is given as a ps plus title before their next release but Sony refuses to push their own very respectable sports title.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Trailer Rewind

Excited about the news I had skipped the past 2 years of show and haven't played on the PS4 yet, so can't wait to be surprised by their effort. Love Griffey, and the additional news is great too, wonder what decisions in The Road they are talking about.
