Power Pros 2016 News Post

Baseball fans, don't be sour. Look above, and feel the power! It's a new day on PlayStation 4, yes it is! For the first time in the platform's short history, Konami is bringing one of their two Nippon Professional Baseball games to PS4. Power Pros 2016 is targeting a Spring 2016 release in Japan on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, and that's all we really know about the game right now, based on an official press release that contains one teaser screenshot.

A new version of Pro Yakyuu Spirits is also being made for iOS and Android, and that product is far enough along in development that Konami has posted a pretty detailed trailer to their Japanese YouTube channel:

Pro Yakyuu Spirits Ace should be available on phones and tablets sometime in 2015, according to the above video. Konami's also uploaded lots of in-game screenshots and a few paragraphs describing Ace's game modes on its Japanese webpage.

I was concerned because I don't want that perfect corner painting. I turned it back off, just to be safe. Is that normal for the release timing to show up even at On instead of Fade in the 2010 version?
They are similar, and come to think of it the "CPU PITCH CURSOR ON" has not been tested to see if the CPU paints corners. Also, the shrinking circle appears different between the two. If the CPU has a sidearm pitcher the circle will sort of shrink horizontally, it doesn't do that with "FADE".

I'm no expert on either because I find them too distracting and a cheat. If you play baseball like you would in real life you shouldn't need it.

Just a few games so hardly any evidence, but I think it might be the same effect with the cursor on, even if not on Fade.

With it off, I saw a lot more balls that were obvious takes, even without the ! over their heads.

Glad you brought this to light because this is stuff people need to know. I figured most would play it with the cursor OFF but I could be wrong. I'll run a couple test games and post the result.

Does recent performance impact "mood" (the face next to the players)?

I know injury will change it. I'm just curious because Orix is hitting well to start things (lost my last file ) and I was wondering if that's pulling "mood" up.

In my last file, everything went flat at the plate and my whole team got depressed - everyone except Sakaguchi was sad. (Sakaguchi is awesome lol)

It made me wonder if I was seeing a coincidence or if there's some impact here.

I don't think so. To my understanding it's more about physical condition - age, injury status, special skills (some will be in better condition in certain months and some pitchers can boost the condition of all players etc.)

Ah okay - must have been a happy (or unhappy) coincidence.

Sakaguchi is batting over .400 and just dropped to neutral so yeah I guess performance isn't a factor.

Ohbiki is depressed as well while hitting in the .300s (somehow - he fascinates me because his pentagraph is horrible). Must be that "OH BI KI" chant that fires him up

I know I see so many plays that would not be possible in The Show while at the same time those plays are not always successful either, even without any mistakes but without players taking 10 minutes to get up after a dive.

Sometimes I can't believe I'm playing a game that's 6 years old (PYS 2010).

Is a pitcher "going in the red" somewhat random?

I ask because last game, my pitcher went "in the red" three batters into the game after two singles and a HBP.

Granted, not a wonderful start, but I've knocked the CPU pitchers around for multiple runs in the first inning and they still say out of the red. Sometimes, they are pulled but still no red flashing bar. Yet, my guy drops in after three batters and 0 runs scored?

I checked his skills and he basically has none at all, positive or negative. I know there's some skills that influence it so I checked to see if I missed some.

Any explanation other than it just wasn't his day?

There's no formula to speak of but I'd say the HBP mainly triggered it. That may just rank pretty close to a HR in regards to rattling a pitcher - especially considering multiple hits occurred prior to it.

Any chance you left a position player in to pitch by mistake? As far as turning red far as I know its a combination of pitches thrown and how hard they are getting hit.

Nope, he's a pitcher. He had full stamina going into the game as well.

Condition/mood face was neutral.

Must have just been one of those days. Got whipped 13-2.

Is this game really better than the Pro yakyuu spirits series? I don't know if I should get Pro yakyuu 13 or 14 for the vita TV or this one for the PS4.

I was trying pro yakyuu spirits 10 for the ps2 and then I tried the Power Pros 16 success mode demo and honestly I don't know. The other game looks much more realistic (even ignoring graphics/characters) . The physics and everything feels much more realistic and the animations look top notch but they look meh on Power pros. I might be wrong since I haven't played either one too much and I'm no expert in baseball by any means. What do you think?

And also did Konami stop making the Pro Yakyuu spirits series forever? Any of you know if they ever going to release the game again? Even if it's only for ps3/vita?

Thanks in advance

I haven't played PP2016 but I got a copy of the 2013 PP (and PYS 2010 as well) and I think it's largely the same engine. Probably a few differences perhaps and the animations might not be quite the same (given the character models), but overall it seems to be a similar experience.

I do think console/handheld PYS is gone. Folks in this thread have mentioned that and they follow the series closely.

Thanks, I think I'm going with PYS 14 for the vita tv since it's way cheaper. Maybe I'll get PP16 for the ps4 once it gets a little bit cheaper.

Shocked that the series are probably gone and they decided to keep Power Pros instead.

Is there any way to slide in PYS or Power Pros? I've seen the controls translation but it doesn't say anything about it. Plenty of times I could have reached the base safely if I could slide

Edit : Ignore the question, I just noticed that the player does it by themselves

Power Pro is not really better (or worse) than PYS. If you want more of a sim experience go for PYS. If you want fun at the cost of a bit of realism then go with Power Pro's. People look and think PP is arcadey but in reality it plays similar to PYS, but hardcore would probably prefer PYS.

Can't say what they are going to release in the future, perhaps it depends on PP sales. So much went into PYS though I have a hard time believing that they ditched PYS altogether.

Thanks for your answer and for the excellent job you guys do on the spiritstranslation website. It would be impossible to properly enjoy the game without your time and dedication.

I hope you are right and future PYS are still coming. I wouldn't be able to buy Power pros 16 even if I liked it more than PYS (which I definitely don't). Because in my mind that would be like admitting that Konami made the right decision by not releasing the game anymore and releasing power pros instead. I don't want to give them a reason to continue doing it in the future.

they took a year off porting PP to fox engine, maybe there doing the same with PYS.

How the hell do I stop runners from stealing bases in PYS? Can it be done? I throw the ball right as the catcher gets it but the runner ALWAYS makes it in time. I don't see a way to stop it. But if I'm the one trying to steal of course it's always an out.
