Madden NFL 15 News Post

EA Sports is currently livestreaming Madden NFL 15, detailing the presentation and graphics. (Note: As of 3:30 PM EST, the stream has now ended. We'll effort an archived version soon!)

UPDATE: Click here to watch the archived stream. (It takes some time to load...)

Here are some thoughts on the stream today:
  • The halftime show is definitely improved and of good quality. The problem will be most will find it perfectly skippable, but there aren't any real cases where a halftime show is must-see TV, even in real-life. It's sponsored by Verizon, so there's that.
  • Commentary was ok, you didn't hear much of it due to the dev commentary over the gameplay, but it seemed to flow a bit better. We won't know anything about that until a later date.
  • Coaches have unique body types and head models, so they do look better. Coaches we saw today (Reid, Tomlin mainly) were definitely a step up.
  • Celebrations and such definitely are smoother/more aware of the context they're happening in since they happen within the gameplay itself and not a loaded cut-scene. Still some wonky instances but overall better.
  • The developers talked about equipment a bit. The new uniforms for each team are going to be in, and uniform/helmet degradation are in as well.
  • Switching of cameras was very smooth, definitely a huge improvement there.
  • Sidelines are much busier now, more people on them, etc. They still don't look perfect, but from where we were to where we are now, huge improvement.
  • Overall the presentation is quite good in-game this year, it definitely has a new layer of polish on it that wasn't there last year. It's not perfect, but clearly its taken yet another leap ahead this season.

Do we know which system was used for these streams? Not trying to start a flame war, but when watching things on stream or youtube it seems that there is a difference in lighting and colors between Xbox One and PS4 when watching a video on youtube. Just a thought...trying to quantify the difference between stream 1 and stream 2 is baffling me.

Therefore we really didn't get a great representation of how the game plays.

IDK, i could be wrong... Nevertheless, I'm still very much looking forward to Aug 26.

The gameplay Livestream looks better IMO from a graphics standpoint and the Presentation and Graphics Livestream looks washed out and muted almost like the games are being played in Mexico City under the worst smog conditions possible.

The Chiefs-Steelers game looked fine. The Jags-Eagles game did look "smoggy" -- I mentioned that earlier in this thread that the dusk time lightning in this game is NOT good. (It's like the game is being played with the stadium lights off.) Nevertheless, it's how the game is, and still the same as the first livestream...

Yeah, I think that's very possible. The color difference between the two streams is like night and day. It could be that the game looks identical on the PS4 and XBox One, but when streamed on Twitch, the two consoles have very different color settings.

Both livestreams were on PS4 ...

I watched the Livestream today I'm pretty sure the Chiefs and Steelers game looked washed out and muted also. Whatever the case might be, they sure didn't do themselves any favors by doing a graphics presentation with that lighting because it doesn't do the game justice IMO.

IDK, I think the first livestream just looked more vibrant because of the broncos bright orange jerseys...? And then, there is the problem with the Steelers jerseys not being a deep black... I hate the dusk time lighting. At least the nighttime lighting can't be any worse...

I'm just amazed (in a bad way) at what I've seen on this stream. The excitement and hope for Madden 15 I felt after the first stream has quickly faded. Dammit EA! Some big negatives seen here:

- Pass coverage is horrendous. Looks as bad or worse than Madden 25 if that's possible.

- Tackling looks worse than previous stream. Lots of 1 on 1 tackles. Not seeing any of the multi-hit tackles or multiple players flying to the ball.

- Lots of bad drops, both by WR's and DB's. They need to manufacture "real" stats by having lots of bad drops, not by having smarter AI.

- Passing inaccuracy seems to have been nerfed down significantly. Not seeing many or any inaccurate passes. FRICK!

I'm off the hype train officially. The demo will get it's chance to win me back, but if that fails I'm sticking with Madden 25 and saving my damn money.

My amateur opinion would be they don't want us to see night games or dome games because they still look like $hit on a shingle! I hope I'm wrong, and they are waiting to blow us away when they reveal CFM features, but I wasn't born yesterday. Also, what evidence do we have that they have improved weather games at all? None. Rain game is constant driving rainstorm, and the same with snow. No variability or anything close to dynamic weather.

Yeah, you're right. Just noticed the controllers. I'm at a loss. I think I'll hold the rest of my judgements until the demo, and just keep my fingers crossed in hopes that there is still some tweaking yet to be done before the final build.

I feel like something had to be wrong with the capture device or something involved in getting the image from the ps4 to the twitch feed. It looked like they were playing with brightness and contrast turned all the way up or something, it didn't seem normal at all. I really don't think, graphics wise, the stream showed how the game accurately looks.

Gameplay wise, I mean, it speaks for itself, there were some question marks, but no way it was supposed to look that washed out

August 26th needs to hurry itself along. I'm ready to play this game for myself.

Ok! I won't!

Just wanted to make my own statement to include needless exclamation points too!

But seriously this just makes me ready to play it myself. The only reason I'm getting a little worried is because of things that happened with 13 and 25. Fool me once...

The Demo and playing the game early on EA access with help make up my mind.

Glad it's on YouTube. I'm going to watch it again. Sometimes twitch isn't the best quality. Maybe that will make a difference

One thing that I haven't seen mentioned for Madden 15 is whether there's variety in presentation elements for primetime games vs Sunday afternoon games. Madden 25 barely scraped the surface by adding different replay swipes Thurs night football, Game of the Week, and Primetime Football for TNF/SNF/MNF games respectively.

I really hope they've added to this instead of scrapping it altogether, especially since CBS will be broadcasting Thursday night games for the first half of the season.
