Madden NFL 15 News Post

EA Sports is currently livestreaming Madden NFL 15, detailing the presentation and graphics. (Note: As of 3:30 PM EST, the stream has now ended. We'll effort an archived version soon!)

UPDATE: Click here to watch the archived stream. (It takes some time to load...)

Here are some thoughts on the stream today:
  • The halftime show is definitely improved and of good quality. The problem will be most will find it perfectly skippable, but there aren't any real cases where a halftime show is must-see TV, even in real-life. It's sponsored by Verizon, so there's that.
  • Commentary was ok, you didn't hear much of it due to the dev commentary over the gameplay, but it seemed to flow a bit better. We won't know anything about that until a later date.
  • Coaches have unique body types and head models, so they do look better. Coaches we saw today (Reid, Tomlin mainly) were definitely a step up.
  • Celebrations and such definitely are smoother/more aware of the context they're happening in since they happen within the gameplay itself and not a loaded cut-scene. Still some wonky instances but overall better.
  • The developers talked about equipment a bit. The new uniforms for each team are going to be in, and uniform/helmet degradation are in as well.
  • Switching of cameras was very smooth, definitely a huge improvement there.
  • Sidelines are much busier now, more people on them, etc. They still don't look perfect, but from where we were to where we are now, huge improvement.
  • Overall the presentation is quite good in-game this year, it definitely has a new layer of polish on it that wasn't there last year. It's not perfect, but clearly its taken yet another leap ahead this season.
What did you think of the stream?

Am I right when I mentioned the guy playing the cpu has no clue on how to call defenses?...and if that is the problem, then they should've got somebody in there that knows how to play defense and call plays at least based on the offensive formations.

Because what was shown sure didn't show off the "improved" defense, and this was played on All Pro for crying out loud....

After watching this and the Eagles Jags game..I was going to make the joke and say the reason for the open receivers was due to bad CB..but still bad overall..here is my question about "what build it was"...if it was an earlier build why show (one with Rex) a better build the week prior..then older build this week? Seems backwards right? Would want to build up to release no?

If the whole premise was to show these things off, showing an "older build" doesn't make much sense at all.

I highly doubt it was an earlier build and the gameplay issues that people are seeing could possibly be a combination of gameplay settings that were different than the first stream and more gameplay tuning. The washed out colors could be due to the time of day and for some reason they thought showing off how the game looked in afternoon games was a good idea for the graphics part of the presentation.

I can't see it being an older build at this point.

We've been through this rodeo, we know EA doesn't let anything drop they don't allow and being this close to release I doubt they allow us to see anything that isn't finalized.

If a demo comes, I understand that being an older build, but not videos from inside at this point.

I think you guys are over thinking this stuff, lets just wait another week maybe two and we'll see the final build. The GC's should be getting the game around Aug 12 based on previous years. They usually post video before that even. I think last year they posted retail build videos around Aug 8 or 9.

I think it's 'possible' that the gameplay appeared nerfed due to the players. However, the few points that I saw that shouldn't really be player related are:
1. Bad looking drops
2. Incorrect emotion on jags coach when they got a big sack. He was upset for some reason.
3. Alex smith rolling out of the pocket to his right and giving it the old 'madden sling' across his body throwing against the grain perfectly for a completion.
All of these things really gave it a Madden 25 feel.
I'm still hopeful and I will still buy the game, but for whatever reason(s), things looked a little funky.

@jpdavis1982: @EASPORTS_AJ Hey man was the stream today from the retail build or an older build?

@EASPORTS_AJ: @jpdavis1982 I don't have retail copies yet. Why do you ask?

Now as far as people being disappointed today, other than the lower quality stream, I think the difference today was expectations.

Most people had low expectations before the first stream. After last weeks stream the expectations were raised and anything that wasn't better than last week would be seen as meh or a step backwards. My expectations have been the same all along and I found today and the stream last week fairly similar.

The AI issues people have mentioned for the Eagles Jags game are because it was user vs user.

Most of the presentation was as I expected, half time show especially in the second game, looked pretty good. I'm hoping for CFM they will have some commentary about standings and playoff races.
I just started watching the Jags game again and the guy is playing against the CPU not another user. On another note why did they remove the halftime show and then entire second half of the Steelers Chiefs game?

JPDavis1982, can you ask your guys at EA if the colors have been adjusted since the last stream. I will concede that everything looked washed out today compared to the Broncos ORANGE of the last stream.

Some may be over thinking it, or as you have done in each of the previous years, you may be under thinking it.

Either way, if you want others to stop posting opinions or thoughts until the game comes out then I will expect you to do the same.

Understood?

what? nobody here is "over thinking" anything....we're merely speaking of what has been shown.....

apparently you must be "over thinking" things as well...so much so in fact that you felt the need to get some kind of confirmation from Twitter....

And to be honest with AJ and being around the game as much as he has. How does he not know what build of the game it is? I believe it may not be retail, but I find it hard to believe they would leave them clueless on what build it is.

AJ is a good guy from my interactions with him. He doesn't need to be thrown under the bus.

That twitter exchange tells us nothing, don't take much from it, just think of the source.

I'm not throwing him under the bus, he just confirmed its not a retail copy. Its a honest observation and you can't always believe twitter or the internet.

I just dont get it EA?...what type of situation we have going on here....The comments here compared to the last stream is like freaking night and day...How is this possible...We are too close to Aug 26 to be showing 2 different games

Lets all just wait till we see an actual retail build before we jump off that proverbial bridge. If you don't like the retail build and think problems still exist there is a very simple solution to the problem: don't buy it!.

What will be interesting is if the demo looks and plays diff compared to the retail & early access version.

The screenshots comapring the two commentators will be telling when the demo releases
... in one the the two had matching colored ties and in the other one wore a green tie while the other wore a blue.

Rationally, you should expect to see a more complete build as you near the retail shipping date of your product.

Yes and no. When a company sits down to show you the full game with all of its features you would expect to see the final retail build but when they are only showing off certain features they often use whatever they have the easiest access to (and whichever is the most stable) which could be a build from months ago. I have seen some horrible looking videos on Twitch in the past that ended up being old builds and the retail game looked amazing. You really have to wait till you can see actual gameplay and actual visuals from the final retail product before you can make any real judgement.

SMDH if this is the case. After the last live stream video (with Rex) I was totally on board with the direction of this team, and was very much looking forward to release. Now I'm confused and I'm not sure what I just watched but it seems like regression from the last stream. Not good...

LOL. Everyone is freaking out thinking that the version of the game in today's stream is significantly different from last week's stream. I really don't see it, looks like the same game to me. I think it's like someone else here already stated, the guys playing obviously aren't great players, but I think they were there simply to talk about presentation & graphics. Therefore we really didn't get a great representation of how the game plays.

IDK, i could be wrong... Nevertheless, I'm still very much looking forward to Aug 26.

The best animations in the game are pre and post play. That has to change.
