Madden NFL 15 News Post

EA Sports is currently livestreaming Madden NFL 15, detailing the presentation and graphics. (Note: As of 3:30 PM EST, the stream has now ended. We'll effort an archived version soon!)

UPDATE: Click here to watch the archived stream. (It takes some time to load...)

Here are some thoughts on the stream today:
  • The halftime show is definitely improved and of good quality. The problem will be most will find it perfectly skippable, but there aren't any real cases where a halftime show is must-see TV, even in real-life. It's sponsored by Verizon, so there's that.
  • Commentary was ok, you didn't hear much of it due to the dev commentary over the gameplay, but it seemed to flow a bit better. We won't know anything about that until a later date.
  • Coaches have unique body types and head models, so they do look better. Coaches we saw today (Reid, Tomlin mainly) were definitely a step up.
  • Celebrations and such definitely are smoother/more aware of the context they're happening in since they happen within the gameplay itself and not a loaded cut-scene. Still some wonky instances but overall better.
  • The developers talked about equipment a bit. The new uniforms for each team are going to be in, and uniform/helmet degradation are in as well.
  • Switching of cameras was very smooth, definitely a huge improvement there.
  • Sidelines are much busier now, more people on them, etc. They still don't look perfect, but from where we were to where we are now, huge improvement.
  • Overall the presentation is quite good in-game this year, it definitely has a new layer of polish on it that wasn't there last year. It's not perfect, but clearly its taken yet another leap ahead this season.
What did you think of the stream?

I do think the jerseys should be blacker...but I agree, at the end of the day it's not a big deal to me. Some of the complaints in the uniform errors thread are just laughable to me (and I have posted in that thread myself), and petty. Especially when there are endless gameplay issues that we should wish to have fixed first lol

Notice in the graphics department in this stream, that the steelers jersey did have a grayish look to them. So, I went back to look at a few images, and in those images the jersey's are black! Maybe the lighting in the game has an effect on them during time of game. (strange though)

How far into the video is the halftime show?

Who's nitpicking bro? We are discussing the twitch stream. This is a thread about the twitch stream. We are discussing what we saw.

Yikes.

I hate that we can't have honest opinions about Madden anymore. There have been positive feedback as well as constructive criticism in this thread, both are valid and both are allowed to happen. Neither deserve to be frowned upon.

I think they turned the brightness settings up for that Livestream to show the tiny details of the jersey's and helmets.

Thanks guys.

I have to say, I really like the jump from last year's version to this one. Definite improvements to gameplay, graphics, and presentation. If the dev team can keep up with this pace, we are in good shape.

Would help if they had more enthusiastic presenters, certainly, and IMO they should bring back the slide deck so they can explain what we're about to see in the game and why it matters. Hard to pick up on everything just watching straight gameplay.
It definitely isn't the worst gameplay I have ever seen but I guess I was more bothered by what I didn't see than what I saw. The worst part of video has to be the wide open receivers/terrible defense in the second game. Upon a second viewing, I think the first game actually looked alright for default sliders.

To be fair in the second game, wasn't that the game where the presenter guy called nothing but blitzes on defense because thats what they requested on twitter?

That's because the first game was user vs CPU, second was two users and one o which was trying to narrate the stream and play at the same time.

the 2nd game was definitely user vs cpu

The tackling looked improved, I did not see a lot of the pull-up or avoid tackle animations. If additional players were in range to affect the tackle they did more times than not. One minor annoyance that I've always seen in madden is how the images freezes on come camera transitions.

Also, just watched the halftime show because I couldn't yesterday, was having problems with Twitch. Much less dead air than what was shown at E3, which is good. I think high-level it's set up pretty well, it's a good framework to build in. Particularly the cinematography in the opening stages.

As for constructive feedback, which probably isn't all original - I would like to see more of the play and more shots from the traditional broadcast cameras when the show is broadcasting highlights. Not all, I like variety, but at least some. More player names in the dialogue would be nice; the scripted lines are very generic right now, but at least they flow together nicely. Much better than, say, the GameBreak cut-ins in NCAA Football where Rece Davis' lines just didn't fit together much at all, IMO.

The other thing I'd like to see - the show's end is very abrupt. The last highlight plays, and there's a very quick transition back to the field. A more natural flow back into the game would be nice to see going forward.

Dude you continue to say that the second game (Jags-Eagles) was user vs. user, but it was NOT -- the guy on the left (the host, or what have you) is playing as the Jags, the guy on the right is handling the Twitch questions and speaking on presentation aspects of the game...

I think it's as good, if not better than what NBA 2k had in their first version.

Just saw the halftime show, much better than E3. I think the way the highlights are presented is bad though. The angles and length of the replay are all wrong. Also the transition back to the game was just bad.

My biggest problem with Tiburon, they are just inconsistent. The minute I want to give them praise for something, then next minute I'm like wtf is that?

All I ask is for them to show the highlights in broadcast view
