Madden NFL 15 News Post

EA Sports is currently livestreaming Madden NFL 15, detailing the presentation and graphics. (Note: As of 3:30 PM EST, the stream has now ended. We'll effort an archived version soon!)

UPDATE: Click here to watch the archived stream. (It takes some time to load...)

Here are some thoughts on the stream today:
  • The halftime show is definitely improved and of good quality. The problem will be most will find it perfectly skippable, but there aren't any real cases where a halftime show is must-see TV, even in real-life. It's sponsored by Verizon, so there's that.
  • Commentary was ok, you didn't hear much of it due to the dev commentary over the gameplay, but it seemed to flow a bit better. We won't know anything about that until a later date.
  • Coaches have unique body types and head models, so they do look better. Coaches we saw today (Reid, Tomlin mainly) were definitely a step up.
  • Celebrations and such definitely are smoother/more aware of the context they're happening in since they happen within the gameplay itself and not a loaded cut-scene. Still some wonky instances but overall better.
  • The developers talked about equipment a bit. The new uniforms for each team are going to be in, and uniform/helmet degradation are in as well.
  • Switching of cameras was very smooth, definitely a huge improvement there.
  • Sidelines are much busier now, more people on them, etc. They still don't look perfect, but from where we were to where we are now, huge improvement.
  • Overall the presentation is quite good in-game this year, it definitely has a new layer of polish on it that wasn't there last year. It's not perfect, but clearly its taken yet another leap ahead this season.
What did you think of the stream?

So I finally watched the whole 1 hr video.....Every corner route was OPEN and all QBs in both games threw a perfect strike everytime!!...and IRL, that actually a tough pass to throw..... Not Good.....Am I bugging or did anyone else notice that?

Player movement looks terrible. I don't really see how anyone could look at the first stream, then this one, and defend it.

The replays look a lot like the replays in 13. I certainly hope the presentation guys aren't modifying the replay angles to try to show off the graphics.... I am afraid that is what they are doing. I fear that doing so, will make the replays, which are a huge part of what makes presentation feel authentic, dull.... Uh Oh
I felt the same way watching this. I don't know if it's because Rex wasn't in the video or what but, this felt just like I watching one those video's from last year or when ever they last did these. The first stream with Rex felt refreshing and hopeful. It was a much different vibe than it's had. This one felt like the same song and dance.

I really hope this is just an earlier build or a build that only has updated presentation and not the updated game play. I hope so. I really don't want to jump the gun but, you guys are exactly right about the Madden 13 demo. I just fear these guys still listen too much to the prima, online, and tourney guys who complain about QB accuracy or needed to be able to keep their stick skills stuff. it would be so frustrating if they did that. Come one guys just give us a sim game and let gamers decide. quit assuming people want some arcade type of Madden.

I Wonder if it's on Rookie. Also can you embed the hour long video?

I don't know what everyone is complaining about. I think at a certain point, everyone has unrealistic expectations. It is after all, a video game. I think graphics wise, it looks amazing and I think the camera angles really add a lot to the whole package. You spend so much time complaining about the things wrong with it, that you forget to appreciate just how far madden has come. Does it still have a ways to go before it is perfect? Yes. I still say this madden is the furthest jump from one year to another that we have ever had. Madden is on the right track, we just have to let the developers work their magic.

I think it's happened again this year. EA has pulled the bait and switch it seems, the old switch-a-ru. This looks like nothing from the first stream. It makes no sense to show a old build of the game, so I tend to believe this is the game were getting. This makes no sense to me at all, what is the deal with EA? One minute I think there actually trying to create a awesome game and the next minute there pulling the wool over are eyes and give us this? Just when this company was getting on the right side they go back to the company i can't stand. I may cancel my preorder

I'll be watching this several more times, but by the way this stream was put together, it's difficult to critique. I think there's general herky-jerkiness just because of the stream. I did see a DE release from his block as soon as the QB tried to get outside along with some ok tackling. Someone else mentioned that they think they took out QB styles and I don't think that guess is justified based on the video. My biggest concern each year is that they may take something OUT of Madden from previous version, which doesn't seem to be the case lately. I can appreciate those concerned about the black jerseys, but many of the teams colors change based on time of day and weather in the game. I liked the camera views all around and most player movement. It was also mentioned about soft coverage after D has been hyped so much, but they did run a section where the guy was constantly blitzing to appease Twitter requests. I like what I see, but like it or not, looks like we all have to play for the true test. The best thing to me so far is that we've seen more game play footage than we've ever had prior to release. Halftime show is welcome addition most have wanted for a long time, but it will be a constant in these forums to improve this in years to come.

Well EA is touting features like adaptive AI, realistic QB accuracy, improved defense, and in this stream a lot features aren't really shown off, if shown at all. I don't think it's unrealistic to expect to see advertised features. This gameplay isn't terrible but it looked a lot like M25. I was under the impression big changes were coming and "This Is The Year."

Call that unrealistic, but it's just my two cents.

The first stream was way better than this one. I'm not saying this game looks bad, I am saying the gameplay shown in this stream wasn't stellar. That's all

LOL I love the "It's just a video game" guy. If it's just so simple why would they spend so much money on advertising and even bother with these streams. We all know it's a game but, it's also big business. They are the ones who keep making promises. I think most leaving "negative" comments are more disappointed about this compared to the first stream. I really liked how the gameplay looked then. I just can't understand what has changed.

How can you tell? I've been playing Madden since it first came out and IMO Madden has really struggled to improve year after year at a rate that I think is acceptable. This is a team that only builds one game and has spun around in circles from a creative standpoint and from a gameplay standpoint the entire last gen cycle and so much so that I couldn't even play last gen because it was such a disappointment.

I want more than anything for the Madden team to succeed and I'm pulling for them, I just expect more progression from the title over the years and I hope the 15 release is a big step forward.....I really do.

Well I don't know what build it was from but it wasn't retail, just got this from AJ.

@jpdavis1982: @EASPORTS_AJ Hey man was the stream today from the retail build or an older build?

@EASPORTS_AJ: @jpdavis1982 I don't have retail copies yet. Why do you ask?

Now as far as people being disappointed today, other than the lower quality stream, I think the difference today was expectations.

Most people had low expectations before the first stream. After last weeks stream the expectations were raised and anything that wasn't better than last week would be seen as meh or a step backwards. My expectations have been the same all along and I found today and the stream last week fairly similar.

The AI issues people have mentioned for the Eagles Jags game are because it was user vs user.

Most of the presentation was as I expected, half time show especially in the second game, looked pretty good. I'm hoping for CFM they will have some commentary about standings and playoff races.

just saw way too many drops. the slant that Brown ran that he dropped was head scratching..

# 176 The JareBear @ 07/30/14 11:13 PM
I hear ya JP. My only question is, and this is an honest question, not trying to troll you or give you a hard time my man, but even though it's a user game, does that make it ok for CPU controlled players to be braindead?

I do have a feeling this was an older build so I'm not quitting on Madden or anything, just trying to understand why I saw what I saw today.

I'm right there with ya man praying After the first stream I felt positive about madden for the first time in a long time, but after this one total opposite. Feels like same Madden all over again and nothing looks like the first stream. This doesn't even seem like this is playing on a PS4 colors look PS3ish. I just think if it was a earlier build why wouldn't they mention that at all? is my question

Then what's the excuse for the poor A.I in the first game? That certainly wasn't user vs user.

Am I right when I mentioned the guy playing the cpu has no clue on how to call defenses?...and if that is the problem, then they should've got somebody in there that knows how to play defense and call plays at least based on the offensive formations.

Because what was shown sure didn't show off the "improved" defense, and this was played on All Pro for crying out loud....

I think it was just to showcase Presentation and Graphics and they needed guys on hand that are responsible for those elements of the game. Still, I agree they should've had Rex there and that other guy they had in the last stream because watching gameplay with guys that know how to play is much different than watching guys that don't play the game much or very well.
