R.B.I. Baseball 14 News Post

Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) has announced R.B.I. Baseball 14 for current and next-gen consoles, as well as mobile devices, arriving this Spring.

With 2K Sports confirming no baseball game, it didn't look good for Xbox 360 and Xbox One fans, but it now looks like we will see a baseball game for Microsoft gamers after all.

Time will tell what kind of game this really is, but in the meantime you can keep track of the game on Twitter, Facebook and their official website.

I'm in the same boat.

Other games that are in the same vein as The Show just don't do it for me....on any level.
That's why I can play OOTP.....or PowerPros.....it's a different feel altogether.

I'm hoping for a true revival of R.B.I.

Anything else would be a purchase(I own and will continue to own every baseball title produced)....but it just won't get much play time unless it completely blows me away.

I like to say that baseball is the one game you can see on radio. I started listening to the Yanks when I was 6 in 96, and haven't missed a game to date. These days though, it's a lot different. Back then, I always used my good old pocket radio, now I can use mlb.tv and watch the game with sinced radio on a roku or ps app.
If you don't mind me asking, what is it that you are able to see?

As for me, graphics don't mean much of course, but I still would like it to be a realistic game. Awesome gameplay, sound, stuff like that. Kind of like All-star baseball for ps2.

I hope RBI plays semi sim BUT fun is the key you know something that makes you wanna play more and not turn off the console in disgust like you not even part of the game at key moments .
I agree. I'm tired of playing so called sims that are so animation driven that I may as well set the game to cpu vs cpu for all the input I can give.

See sims are great for watching but Im not a watcher Im a player and a player has gotta play

I think it is very disingenuous when playing a game for it to be tilted one way or another for the sake of sim , I mean at that point why even play because your not actually even playing right ?

I think there's a happy medium.
You should have some control, but at the end of a 162 game season Trout and Cabrera should be in the top 5 for BA while guys like Arencibia should always be fighting the Mendoza line.

I agree with you that it shouldn't be nothing BUT sim so no matter how good you are, or how well you work a count, poor hitters should always be poor.
But I think there's a happy middle ground.

That's why I loved 2K's Hitters Eye. Even if you're a bad player, Hitters Eye can help you out when hitting with a premier stick.

This is why I like psy so much. Good hitters have a larger cursor making it easier to hit with them than a poor hitter who will have a smaller cursor. This way the good hitters will have a higher avg. than poor hitters all the while giving the user ultimate control.

I guess its just how the coding is implemented and how you play but with the Show I find it FEELS very predictable or force at key moments regardless of who its favors hu or cpu but with EA NHL 14 if you can find the proper sliders which isnt easy the game can be incredible , semi sim and very fun .

EA NHL and the show are very similar IMO coding wise but as much as I like the Show its just little fun on a replay value over time so hopefully RBI can bring some fun back with real player interaction based off of real stats and attributes and not some randomness that makes little sense at times other than saying thats just baseball as a answer/excuse for poor AI and coding .

I like alot of what MLB 2k did later on but too little to late and visually I couldnt even play it as it hurt my eyes and thats sad as MLB 2k7 looked better than most , I hate Ben Brinkman .

See like with NHL I can understand things adjust things and feel like I played a role win or lose questionable or not and have a good taste in my mouth but with the Show not so much .

I agree. There are times it seems like no matter what pitcher you have, or what pitch you throw, certain guys are going to hit off of you no matter what.
I played the same game (MLB13) against the Yanks, 4x in a row, and in each one, Ellsbury got a hit in his first AB regardless of who I had on the mound.

But my biggest gripe against The Show is that the pitcher-hitter dynamic has gotten extremely stale.
After using 2K's analog pitching and having Hitters Eye, I found MLB to be really boring.
I'm well aware of 2K's shortcomings, but for my money, no other ball game has captured the fun and intensity of the pitcher-hitter dynamic like it did.
The game was just flat-out fun.

That's why I'm hoping RBI has something similar. It doesn't have to be perfect, or as pretty as the other games out there.
I just hope it's more sim than arcade and that it's fun.
But if not, I'll go back to 2K13.

The only part of 2k I loved more than the show was the broadcast presentation. I probably mentioned this somewhere in these forms, but being visually impaired, much of my critical thoughts are always towards the sound, because that's the main factor for me. Its never a deal breaker, I play almost every baseball game because I love the sport, but its still great when a game has awesome commentary. If I had to rate the games over the years in terms of that, 2k with Jon Miller was the best, followed by All-star baseball, then the show. The Mlb slugfest series guys were awesome, used to love the pre-game jokes.

Off topic here but quick question, I never played 2k13 how did it compare to 2k12, worth the upgrade as small as it would be?

PS3 - Not a whole lot of difference other than updated rosters (you can get 2K12 rosters too, though), new playoff format and Astro's in AL.

Other than that, I wouldn't say there's a lot that changed.

The 360 version includes the patch that was released for 2K12 - so no stutter after foulball and no rocket arms by catchers when flipping back to the pitcher.

Yeah the show is like that but most dont play enough to notice its huge flaws and as I said before MLB 2k at the end was pretty fun and very interactive but visually I just couldnt accept it .

Release announcement stated only 360/PS3 and mobile devices.
Some are wondering if the release date for next-gen will announced later.

Or, this could mean the game truly is a DL and might not be a 'fully fledged' baseball game.

Fan of the Show here, play a full season of franchise every year and generally keep playing after that. Just started a Postseason, not too long ago with updated rosters.

Regardless, I think I play the Show enough to notice the flaws it has and I don't think it's as flawed as you make it seem. Baseball is random, it's hard to point out statistical anomalies and broadcast it over the whole game. I've had 3 game series where every game I scored 10+ runs and been shut out 3 games in a row. I've had a series where I just can't get guys out (Shane Victorino tortures me in every baseball game ever) but all in all it is possible to do better. A lot of the things that go wrong in the game are either the fault or the user or the skill of the CPU, just like in real life. When things don't go your way it's not always the game's fault, it could be the sport's fault.

It hasn't been an issue and while I trust you guys won't make it so, let's avoid the potential for an issue by not discussing other sports titles in RBI's thread.

This is not directed at anyone but the chatter about The Show and 2K has gone on too long for this thread.

I really dont like the fact its releasing on a thursday. That means its digital only and not a retail disc, atleast for the ps3 and 360 versions. Could be good news that a next gen version does not have a releasw date yet. Perhaps they need to wait for a different process for retail discs in order to provide a hard release date. I guess its possible they made a full legit game for next gen and are releasing gimped versions on mobile and last gen consoles. Maybe this is why no screens have been released.
