R.B.I. Baseball 14 News Post

Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) has announced R.B.I. Baseball 14 for current and next-gen consoles, as well as mobile devices, arriving this Spring.

With 2K Sports confirming no baseball game, it didn't look good for Xbox 360 and Xbox One fans, but it now looks like we will see a baseball game for Microsoft gamers after all.

Time will tell what kind of game this really is, but in the meantime you can keep track of the game on Twitter, Facebook and their official website.

This is pretty much what I expected so I don't think it looks bad at all.

I mean, it looks like an updated version of RBI Baseball. I think some may have expected too much.

Some expected more for two reasons:

1) The video with them scanning Soriano's face (though apparently it wasn't really them).
2) The possibility of them just taking 2K's game and changing the name.

sorry, but the expectations from this community when it comes to Madden, NCAA, NBA, MLB2K, The Show, UFC, Tiger Woods on and on there is no way this can be appealing

I thought we knew that head scanning thing was unrelated shortly after we saw it.

And the 2K thing was just pure speculation. We knew MLBAM was making the game, so why would that have anything to do with 2K?

Either way, I didn't mean to come off like a jerk. I Just think the desire for true competition and variety clouded some expectations.

Oh that wasn't me that expected those things, that was just what I read from people on the forums. I think it had to do with the Take-Two connection. I didn't see anything otherwise regarding the Soriano thing, other than the video was up.

I dismissed the "quality" of this immediately when I heard it was getting a mobile release. Very, very rarely would a game get so much attention to be two completely separate products in terms of quality when it was coming up as surprisingly as this title.

Now, if this was a PS4/X1 only title, I would be flabbergasted. Releasing this game just would not make sense.

Well this is a day one purchase for me. Pretty excited about the art direction they took, now I just need to see some true game play.

To each their own, though.

I've said this in the other thread, if this game is as half as fun as when I played it and it's less than 20 bucks, I'm in.

Same here man....I was going to pass if it had MLB The Show type graphics, why own two of the same game? This looks like a complete change of pace and a great game to play with your not-so-serious baseball friends..

It's not trying to be a Madden or MLB2K or such, it's trying to emulate RBI Baseball from the old days, fans of the series in the know about that game will like this direction I believe. I'm a graphics whore too but some games are not supposed to go ultra realistic to appeal and this is one of them. Part of the charm of it is the simplicity both in how it's portrayed and it's control.

You know, like the old days of gaming when graphics wasn't the number one thing about a game....gameplay and fun was..

Seems like a solid baseball fix for the newly introduced fan, or a fan of the RBI baseball series. If the price is under 20 I'll purchase it. Seems like a pretty interesting game.

I know how you feel, joedogg! I didn't necessarily have any "expectations" for this game. Didn't know what the heck to expect, but I certainly HOPED for a "real" baseball game. I already told myself if this was a "real" game, I was going to get it no matter how good/bad. But as everyone suspected, it turns out to be a very cool reboot of an old NES game. Unfortunately, that's just not going to satisfy my baseball needs this year.

(by "real", I mean something close to 2k or the show. You guys know what I mean!)

Then buy MLB The Show, this is a retro game and part of a retro title is to capture what made the original series unique. And a big part of RBI was the simplistic graphics and simplistic play backed by a fantastic stats engine.

Let's face it, if they had went the super realistic, scan-all-the-players route, etc then everyone would have just screamed it was a crappier version of MLB The Show that was trying to trick people into buying by using an old school NES name.

It'd have been a massive failure and rightfully so...they made the right call on this..
