Madden NFL 13 News Post

While most of the Madden NFL 13 news out of E3 seems to be positive, we now have something that could turn into a very big issue. Especially if you enjoy roster editing or use edited rosters created by others.

There seemed to be some confusion about edited rosters. More specifically, if edited rosters could be used in Connected Careers Mode.

I sent a few messages to Justin Dewiel, Community Manager at EA Sports earlier this afternoon and received the following responses.

Quote:
You can edit rosters outside of CC. But you can’t bring them into CC.

If you start a new CCM career after one of Donny Moore’s releases you can start with that new roster.

Basically, we have to rely on Donny Moore's roster updates, throughout the season, instead of grabbing updated rosters from the many talented roster editors out there, or simply editing on our own.

Jean Adams, Art Director for Madden NFL 13, mentioned the following, in his presentation blog, which was posted in late April.

Quote:
Mixing and matching the new NIKE uniforms, cleats, face masks, sleeves and other yet to be released gear will keep me and many gamers out there in edit player for hours.

Hmmm. I somehow doubt many gamers will be playing around much in edit player, if we can't use the edits in anything other than a Play Now session.

Josh Looman, Madden NFL 13 Senior Designer mentioned on Twitter the following glimmer of hope.

Quote:
We just ran out of time. It will be in there at some point in the future.

Does he mean Madden NFL 14 or could the Madden NFL 13 team add the editing ability in a Title Update or fix the issue before its August 28th release date? I think I speak for everyone, when I say the sooner, the better.

since we have no ability to edit rosters or create players during CC my advice to donny moore is to greatly expand the free agency pool by hundreds of players..please include anyone who remotely has a chance to make an NFL roster this year in the first roster update..include any or all undrafted free agents that have been signed and released throughout the preseason because u know there will be many who end up in the leagu somewhere this year due to injuries and other circumstances ..make sure the next diamond in the rough is in free agency even though he may not be on a team yet in real life ..it may be a lot of work but it will help you and us down the line
I agree wholeheartedly however I believe donny moore stated that 4 M12 there was a limit of around 280 players in the FA pool and a max of 74 on each team to allow for SS mode I've been asking without response if this holds true still and begging for more rookies in default and preseason updates (450+) hopefully

The equipment is always going to be hard and a lot of the time it changes week to week. I can't blame Donny Moore pr EA for that because it's a very tedious task, and it's only 1 guy doing it.

One thing I am worries about is missing players because it seems every year with the roster updates there are several guys who are on teams who don't make it in the game. It's not hard to purse through teams on opening day and get everyone in.

That's the main issue I have with not being able to edit rosters, that guys are missing from teams. I can accept the equipment not being 100% accurate but the rosters should be. I'd always go through and add missing guys to fill up rosters. Now I can't.

Same here and whilst I agree its an awful lot for one person , players on week 1 rosters not being in the game baffles me, as does why they chose 75 man rosters over 80 (now 90) which was the real number

They combined the modes so they could give love to all the modes at once. So anything added to online is also added to offline and superstar. When import drafts comes back it'll be across the board.

There's no way to use any roster other than the current EA roster.

Even though I'm probably one of the most ticked off people around here lately, I have to disagree with the online bias part. Madden 13 has made huge strides and the team is definitely trying to bring true simulation to the game. It is going to be the closest both modes have been ever according to claims. The online portion just wins the bulk of the pluses in order to get both modes to look seamless.

I can understand some decisions. I can live with some of them. But the locked offline mode I can't. This is really my only issue with the game. I can't wrap my head around the decision not to include an "Off switch" for offline franchise even if it isn't "sim". I would expect a fanatical Madden offline player with "Madden OCD to go absolutely bananas. I'm one of them. I can't see the value in all of the work to only make the game playable with a roster you can only get online. How many Madden purchasers have static online connections if any at all? They have the telemetry I'm certain and they have to see a discrepancy. To immediately alienate that many customers seems like a Verizon (no more hand outs for grandfathered customers) move.

Thanks so just the latest update, no saved roster files even unedited yeah that explains something, guess I'll have to start and save some CCs with early updates b4 donny removes the cut players on week one

I dont understand why they do not provide an option to turn editing on/off problem solved. But it will come with a warning that it will turn the storylines off or whatever.

@ billsmafia13 & brizz1744. Ok, I understand what your saying, as far as equipment & name changes goes. I'm all in favor for giving that ability to the user, but there should never be an option/ability to edit height & weight. I host a couple of leagues in NCAA Football every year. This year, EA inserted the ability for league users to, not only edit edit names & equipment, but the heights & weights...terrible! As the commissioner, I spent most of my time policing roster integrity instead of enjoying the league myself; it was not enjoyable...and when I did correct a user's roster, the game would reset them back once the league advanced to the next week.

I know I've said this before and I'll say it again. Just give the user the option to turn anything you can edit it on or off. If people have issues policing their online experience it should never affect offline IMO.

Name-Numbers: On/Off
Weight-Height: On/Off
Equipment: On/Off
Attributes: On/Off

You build this once and you never have to deal with it again and people have the flexibility to play the game anyway they chose.

Presentation= semi-success, RTP= Epic success, CCM= EPIC FAIL!!...As Andy Reid would say (I'm an Eagles Fan) 2K Sports.."Time's Yours".

Good ol EA, they never let us down.....or do they?

Probably should of seen this coming from EA, just another way they can control consumers.

They're playing with fire though. Roster editing isn't something only hardcore fans do. Casual fans like to create their 99 monster player and stick him at QB and dominate or they may want to add Barry Sanders to the Lions to see how deadly he would of been with a good Lions team. This would of been one of the last features I could of imagine being cut out. It is something nearly every customer probably spends some time messing with at some point.

I'm really disappointed in this news too. I was pumped for Madden. I was ready to play a football game this year. I thought I wouldn't after how poorly NCAA 12 was and how EA has pretty much took a dump on all their other products I buy from them (Mass Effect, Battlefield, Dragon Age, etc) then Madden 13 looked great at E3, but each day it gets worse and worse. Reminds me of pre-release of Mass Effect 3.

I was going to write a more intelligent comment, but I ran out of time and felt like it would crash OS, so I didn't want to risk it. Pathetic.

That's why all editing online (except maybe names #s and equipment)
Should be ONLY enabled for the commissioner I.e. League creator and available by petitioning them, offline user is commissioner in single player

Well this blows! I was really looking forward to Madden 13 with all the new additions but if I can't edit the rosters for offline play in CC mode then it's a deal breaker for me. I already canceled my pre-order.
