Madden NFL 13 News Post

While most of the Madden NFL 13 news out of E3 seems to be positive, we now have something that could turn into a very big issue. Especially if you enjoy roster editing or use edited rosters created by others.

There seemed to be some confusion about edited rosters. More specifically, if edited rosters could be used in Connected Careers Mode.

I sent a few messages to Justin Dewiel, Community Manager at EA Sports earlier this afternoon and received the following responses.

Quote:
You can edit rosters outside of CC. But you can’t bring them into CC.

If you start a new CCM career after one of Donny Moore’s releases you can start with that new roster.

Basically, we have to rely on Donny Moore's roster updates, throughout the season, instead of grabbing updated rosters from the many talented roster editors out there, or simply editing on our own.

Jean Adams, Art Director for Madden NFL 13, mentioned the following, in his presentation blog, which was posted in late April.

Quote:
Mixing and matching the new NIKE uniforms, cleats, face masks, sleeves and other yet to be released gear will keep me and many gamers out there in edit player for hours.

Hmmm. I somehow doubt many gamers will be playing around much in edit player, if we can't use the edits in anything other than a Play Now session.

Josh Looman, Madden NFL 13 Senior Designer mentioned on Twitter the following glimmer of hope.

Quote:
We just ran out of time. It will be in there at some point in the future.

Does he mean Madden NFL 14 or could the Madden NFL 13 team add the editing ability in a Title Update or fix the issue before its August 28th release date? I think I speak for everyone, when I say the sooner, the better.

You know...I play both and I think they are sacrifices for the greater good just like even adding online was instead of improving offline a while back. I have to trust that time was the problem but I do believe that multiple offline users, editing equipment/numbers, importing and using custom rosters for CCM should be in the game for on and offline. Editing ratings inside this new mode I feel breaks the mode's intent. I stopped buying a lot of games because they became online only as a multiplayer experience.

That only applies to XP and if you design the mode properly it won't break anything by giving the user the option to edit or not. Some people might use full editing, some people might want XP, some people might want both. If you give people the opting and design is to be flexible you can make everyone happy and that should the goal of any development team.

I really wonder what percentage of players edit their players in ANY way. I personally have edited players in every madden that I have been able to do so. I don't see how this could have been OK with them. Is there not enough space on the disc to create an offline and online version of connected carrers?

Though I personally think being able to do a fantasy draft online would be a mess as far as scheduling goes but would be awesome as well. For anyone who has played Fantasy Football, this would be a blast. I have some severe scheduling issues with playing with friends anymore with my family responsibilities but I would find a way to be a part of a fantasy draft in an online league.

Time and money.

Which I hope translate into a great product in the future especially with the nex gen of systems lurking around.

No more excuses for a subpar game as far as I am concerned.

I don't think it was purposefully intended to be removed from the game mode. I think they realized it later and just shrugged it off as no one will care too much or the people will just deal with it.

...they were sorely mistaken

At some point it was going to even out and it just turns out that it was this year. Online has taken the short end of the stick for the last several years.

As a season pass user we don't get to try out online during the 3 day preview.

Evening things out would be to give online everything offline had...instead they keep online basic and trim offline to match it.

I wouldn't call online basic by any stretch of the definition. It is just missing editing. Compared to all the stuff added that is very miniscule.

That's not really accurate. It's not like they made offline what online was in 12. It's more like (in terms of comparison...I'm not saying this is literally what happened) they met somewhere in between, which just so happened to hamper the offline aspect much more.

And really, offline got some attention in some additional areas as well. It just came at the expense of areas some of us care more about. Sucks, I definitely agree (hell, I've written several dissertations here on the topic this past week...lol), but let's be fair.

Totally caught off guard by client beeing upset with missing electrical and plumbing. Paint and yard looks amazing, but client still unhappy about things missing from house that we just didn't feel were that big off a deal. Sticking with me guns though with client that plumbing was way to risky and so what if we ran out of time to get the other stuff done. Bahamas baby here I come!
me guns though with client

Does anyone know if we have to always start a CC with the latest roster update or whether we can use pre- downloaded roster files i.e. The default or pre-seadon update later in the year ? I ask this because if its the former it would explain why no editing is possible

I have a question to the community...Is it plausible that having the ability to edit rosters will lead to jacked up teams with 6'4" CBs, 400 pd linemen, & 6'7" WRs..etc? I play Dynasty mode on NCAA every year & this year in 2012, EA allowed that edit roster feature (height & weight in particular) into Dynasty mode to all users, after the Dynasty began & it hurt way more than it helped. I think letting Donny handle the roster updates is good enough because it keeps the game on a level playing field...IMO. General consensus, from what I've read so far about M13, is that the game will be great. My point being...you've got to give the man a fair chance to succeed at updating the rosters before U fail him at updating the rosters..don't U?

For online 'fanchises' editing of any description would have to solely in the hands of the commissioner to remove the possibility of misuse, for offline the user would be his own commissioner and therfore have total control returned if I'm reading things correctly.
Experience tells us donny moores updates will not please everybody whether because they are inaccurate or simply because ratings are a subjective issue

What I' meaning is does CC use downloaded saved roster files or load its roster direct from the disc or from the web if an update is available ?

i want to spread a little bit of advice to roster editor donny moore and hope that one of you with a twitter account could pass this along to him if you agree with me...

since we have no ability to edit rosters or create players during CC my advice to donny moore is to greatly expand the free agency pool by hundreds of players..please include anyone who remotely has a chance to make an NFL roster this year in the first roster update..include any or all undrafted free agents that have been signed and released throughout the preseason because u know there will be many who end up in the leagu somewhere this year due to injuries and other circumstances ..make sure the next diamond in the rough is in free agency even though he may not be on a team yet in real life ..it may be a lot of work but it will help you and us down the line
