Madden NFL 13 News Post

While most of the Madden NFL 13 news out of E3 seems to be positive, we now have something that could turn into a very big issue. Especially if you enjoy roster editing or use edited rosters created by others.

There seemed to be some confusion about edited rosters. More specifically, if edited rosters could be used in Connected Careers Mode.

I sent a few messages to Justin Dewiel, Community Manager at EA Sports earlier this afternoon and received the following responses.

Quote:
You can edit rosters outside of CC. But you can’t bring them into CC.

If you start a new CCM career after one of Donny Moore’s releases you can start with that new roster.

Basically, we have to rely on Donny Moore's roster updates, throughout the season, instead of grabbing updated rosters from the many talented roster editors out there, or simply editing on our own.

Jean Adams, Art Director for Madden NFL 13, mentioned the following, in his presentation blog, which was posted in late April.

Quote:
Mixing and matching the new NIKE uniforms, cleats, face masks, sleeves and other yet to be released gear will keep me and many gamers out there in edit player for hours.

Hmmm. I somehow doubt many gamers will be playing around much in edit player, if we can't use the edits in anything other than a Play Now session.

Josh Looman, Madden NFL 13 Senior Designer mentioned on Twitter the following glimmer of hope.

Quote:
We just ran out of time. It will be in there at some point in the future.

Does he mean Madden NFL 14 or could the Madden NFL 13 team add the editing ability in a Title Update or fix the issue before its August 28th release date? I think I speak for everyone, when I say the sooner, the better.

I hope so. I'm pretty upset about it. Don't get me wrong I'm a grown dude I'm not pouting or anything lol. I just mean from the fact I was really looking forward this and the changes, and now I will have to wait till Madden '14.

'12 was a letdown and I haven't play it nor NCAA just because of the pass trajectory issues. I did more raging than enjoying myself.

If I was a betting man I'd say 95% chance they won't because I think for some absolutely asinine reason CCM was already in development without a lot of stuff taken into consideration and its gonna take EA an entire game cycle to wipe the egg off their face and get things back on track. This is gonna be a nightmare release of epic proportions I think.

He is not some elected official or something and it's not like the game is even out yet and people bought it before finding this out.

I understand the disappointment and know all too well how it feels but this tweeter stuff about Looman is being blown out of proportion, imo.
I agree at this point in time...

I believe the bitterness stems from a few days back when there was a lot of info that was known (no editing, no 32 team control, no fantasy draft...) but as a community, was very hard to get...at this point...it's water under the bridge.

There have also been some bold accusations made towards those who tweeted, that they were...childish, rude, horrible...blah blah blah.

While that may be true...it is completely unsubstantiated gossip at this point.

All of the tweets that were posted on this site...thus far...were completely acceptable an in the spirit of collecting genuine information.

Fair enough...you have been a staunch defender of his...which is fine

I believe you may have personal insight into his character...I do not...I am just responding according to how I was treated.

What I find funny is when guys like myself have been saying for years. I am not buying Madden till they make some big innovations, fix the passing game, fix WR/DB interactions, etc etc. You would have many of the same guys talking down to you "Just enjoy the game, it is a VIDEO GAME!" and comments of that nature. Then those same people get a feature removed such as "editing equipment" and the tides have turned. Yet the "gameplay" part is more important because it is the part you play the most!

Now I am the one talking good about Madden saying they did good work this year fixing many of the gameplay elements that have always prevented me from enjoying the game. Added Physics, fixed the passing game, playaction can be aborted, no more psychic defenders, etc etc! I have always been more of a gameplay person so the on field stuff matter 10x more to me.

I do agree editing should not have been removed. I just find it funny how people pick their "extremes" of what is worthy of not purchasing.

I can zig zag all over the field.........."ehhhhh its just a game, I will enjoy it"........"Wait, I can't put sleeves on my QB???? No not purchasing game killer"

That being said, I think we can definitely agree on the fact that the taking away of things we used to have is really getting old, and we are ALL tired of it.
Never said solely because of online. That is not my problem man, my problem, like I said, was Big's stance. I quoted one of his post, #567, but also #503. That is where it became "Offline vs.Online"...
My overall point was missed along the way, but yes, we can agree on that much.

I feel like the majority of the posters on this forum are respectful even when angry. If he is getting some really nasty hate I would bet it comes from the lurkers with twitter accounts. I personally am not angry, I just want some insight or any kind of real response from him really. Other than that little things comment of course. (If he gets any nasty messages, I would bet it is from that comment more than the features being cast out)

This is a big problem for me for several reasons:

1) Drafted players often have different skill sets than the position they're drafted at (eg. FS as SS).
2) I have to move players around to fill roster requirements (eg. HB to FB), this is particularly important in keeping players on the roster you'd have to cut otherwise (ie. I could sign a FA FB, but then I'd have to cut a talented rookie HB).
3) Donny Moore either sucks or has an impossible job - take your pick. I'm not quibbling over whether a player should be 71 or 73 OVR, but players that have blatantly incorrect ratings. One example is Jeremy Zuttah, center for TB, who is well known as a good technician but isn't strong enough/weak in run blocking. This is well known (at least for TB fans). In Madden, these ratings are reversed.

I could go on, but I'm very frustrated its not in.

Also, thanks EA for getting rid of offline franchise and making CC the ONLY career mode in the game and making it handicapped.
There is no longer a offline franchise mode? Just that CCM?

I don't wish that on anybody but forgive me if I don't share peoples outrage about this other stuff in the first year.
No worries man. I'm sure you get it and my post was crystal clear so I can't see how anyone couldn't understand the outrage that some people have. I couldn't care less if you share the outrage or not, I'm just getting a little tired of people trying to justify the decisions and trying to convince people that they shouldn't be upset because something got removed that was important to them.

Seriously if people had a thread like this devoted to voicing frustration over losing a mode or a feature and I didn't share their view I wouldn't even bother trying to go in to tell them to get over it or its no big deal......blah....blah...blah. People are pissed and let them get it out you know.

After some discussion, we agreed that Franchise mode is yours to control and that we needed to give you the ability to edit the ratings of any player in Franchise mode, whether they are veterans or the rookies you just imported from NCAA Football. ~ Josh Looman Madden 12.

I guess they "disagreed" this year........The most frustrating part of Madden over the years is the schizophrenic approach to building these games. You literally do not know what to expect year to year. Great feature in one year, out the next back three years from now etc....... and now the news that you cant play any other games in CC besides your team...... but they have generic twitter feeds...so we got that goin for us.....

If EA Dev's "want" to open up those Editable things....I think 100% they could do it.

That is Equipment, and Jersey Numbers....I do not think the other things have a chance this cycle.

My main thinking on this.....Last year, the EA NCAA team opened up In-Dynasty Editing of Height and Weight....which never was an option within a Dynasty before...and they did this via a patch/update.

# 518 SteelerSpartan @ 06/12/12 07:35 PM
Do we know of anyone who is going to do another interview with one of the Devs(Preferably Looman) anytime soon????...........

so that we can get in contact with them and make sure they ask them to explain where they see these features on their priority list moving forward

So that we can see what new specific restrictions are on them now and conclude a timetable for when they will return

Hint: Reread my post you quoted.

I don't care to revisit. I've spoken my peace about it. I don't care to search for my responses, or even rehash it for you. Reread what you wrote, as it might've come off in the wrong tone, but it was what you wrote. I wrote my response, and explained.

you mean besides the games being played every week? not to mention the cpu signing and drafting along with the ability to inject future real life NFL players into your franchise? There were plenty of stories in last years franchise it's just that they weren't right there in front of you on a twitter feed. sometimes you had to go look for them other times you had to create them through player editing or moving/creating franchises as examples.

I'm not saying that the idea of CC doesn't intrigue me greatly as a strictly offline franchise player, but the execution of everything we've heard so far does not give me high hopes for truly being immersed in this world like the developers are going for.

I've said it before but my dream game right now would be M12 plus the infinity engine. I'd literally never stop playing that game until they were ready with a fully functional CC then I'd be all over it.
