Madden NFL 13 News Post

While most of the Madden NFL 13 news out of E3 seems to be positive, we now have something that could turn into a very big issue. Especially if you enjoy roster editing or use edited rosters created by others.

There seemed to be some confusion about edited rosters. More specifically, if edited rosters could be used in Connected Careers Mode.

I sent a few messages to Justin Dewiel, Community Manager at EA Sports earlier this afternoon and received the following responses.

Quote:
You can edit rosters outside of CC. But you can’t bring them into CC.

If you start a new CCM career after one of Donny Moore’s releases you can start with that new roster.

Basically, we have to rely on Donny Moore's roster updates, throughout the season, instead of grabbing updated rosters from the many talented roster editors out there, or simply editing on our own.

Jean Adams, Art Director for Madden NFL 13, mentioned the following, in his presentation blog, which was posted in late April.

Quote:
Mixing and matching the new NIKE uniforms, cleats, face masks, sleeves and other yet to be released gear will keep me and many gamers out there in edit player for hours.

Hmmm. I somehow doubt many gamers will be playing around much in edit player, if we can't use the edits in anything other than a Play Now session.

Josh Looman, Madden NFL 13 Senior Designer mentioned on Twitter the following glimmer of hope.

Quote:
We just ran out of time. It will be in there at some point in the future.

Does he mean Madden NFL 14 or could the Madden NFL 13 team add the editing ability in a Title Update or fix the issue before its August 28th release date? I think I speak for everyone, when I say the sooner, the better.

Nope......based on my understanding anything you do to your roster outside of CC does not transfer into CC.

I can see it happening if the.community continues the pressure

I think it's too late to make any damage control.

It depends on if they're willing to sacrifice broken over nothing. If they put it in and it's broken, it will probably just make people even more mad even though they were told that it's the reason it didn't make it into the game in the first place.

All the more reason these changes are more of a blow now. Madden 14 may be the last Madden this gen, and whose to say how many of the fanbase will be able to early adopt to the nxt next gen Madden based off of this current model. How much of this current model makes it to next gen(they only mention a 3 year plan, 14 will end that cycle)? It's a major blow to the community as well as a very huge gamble and commitment. If this were 09, three years into a new console cycle it wouldn't sting so bad, but going out it baffles the mind.

I think the move to combining the three modes was in preparation for an easier transition to next gen. It's a foundation, and while it might be a significant blow this year, if a lot of the features missing this year make it in next year, then it set ups for a much more seamless transition into next gen than what we saw from 05 to 06 which was absolutely awful.

God, I hope they have a release day patch or one some time after to fix this. People want to customize to THEIR liking and to how they see fit. That's why we're given the ability to edit them! If this doesn't get fixed I may not be buying a football game at all this year. Huge disappointment.

Naw man, look forward to the years where you can sit around and play madden while having your spouse bring you food.

He states that editing numbers wouldn't necessary mean that the mode would be bugged but it's too high of a risk.

Well why don't they unlock the player names, number and equipment for edit and have some tester test it and see what happens.

Biggest cop out ever. You won't know until you try.

Base on these tweets I think there's a chance for some editing back if we put pressure

derrrrrrrrr........WTH? How could you design anything that would create instability with basic stuff like names, numbers, equipment, and attributes?

never in the history of EA have they patched something so huge that has fixed customisation. a few years ago the Browns unis were wrong didn't even have in the white pants everyone brought it up NEVER GOT PATCHED even though other uniforms were added

it's never ever going to happen for at least 2 years guarantee you it
They patch in the ability to edit some attributes in NCAA last year in dynasty mode.
Art graphics and unlocking a code is different.

I definitely am bummed that we can't edit players' equipment at least. There's some stuff I just can't stand on my players, like those rubber arm pads. It sounds trivial, but I really like editing the look of my players.

I mean really? How is anything like that even remotely close from being possible unless you have zero development oversight and you set absolutely zero expectations for functionality.

# 558 TrapStar215 @ 06/13/12 01:24 AM
At this point I could give a rats @ss about ratings, I can live with the updates. I just want the ability to edit the appearance of ANY player I please. Why don't they understand it? They walked into that damn studio every day knowing this was going to be left out, and their excuse for not trying to include is because "it might break something"? C'mon man thats laziness at it finest.

that does sound like a bs excuse if i ever heard one. i heard better excuses when i was in high school and people forgot their homework. sir please!

Madden Speak Translation... "The code simply isn't there and no we only want our rosters in our game. Now excuse me while I take my ball and go home"

I believe the usb roster transfer will still work, there will simply be no other file to trade other than the games default one. And something tells me it's really intentional. Maybe sending a passive aggressive message.

Question, what's the difference between any thing user editing (within reason) would do to the game that the cpu generated players haven't already? No one there has played more than a season of CC? It's not possible for the devs to watch cpu vs cpu games? Thinking logically they already know what will be broken and what will be exposed if the user is left the ability to edit. (That and it would render the xp thing useless offline.)
