Madden NFL 13 News Post

While most of the Madden NFL 13 news out of E3 seems to be positive, we now have something that could turn into a very big issue. Especially if you enjoy roster editing or use edited rosters created by others.

There seemed to be some confusion about edited rosters. More specifically, if edited rosters could be used in Connected Careers Mode.

I sent a few messages to Justin Dewiel, Community Manager at EA Sports earlier this afternoon and received the following responses.

Quote:
You can edit rosters outside of CC. But you can’t bring them into CC.

If you start a new CCM career after one of Donny Moore’s releases you can start with that new roster.

Basically, we have to rely on Donny Moore's roster updates, throughout the season, instead of grabbing updated rosters from the many talented roster editors out there, or simply editing on our own.

Jean Adams, Art Director for Madden NFL 13, mentioned the following, in his presentation blog, which was posted in late April.

Quote:
Mixing and matching the new NIKE uniforms, cleats, face masks, sleeves and other yet to be released gear will keep me and many gamers out there in edit player for hours.

Hmmm. I somehow doubt many gamers will be playing around much in edit player, if we can't use the edits in anything other than a Play Now session.

Josh Looman, Madden NFL 13 Senior Designer mentioned on Twitter the following glimmer of hope.

Quote:
We just ran out of time. It will be in there at some point in the future.

Does he mean Madden NFL 14 or could the Madden NFL 13 team add the editing ability in a Title Update or fix the issue before its August 28th release date? I think I speak for everyone, when I say the sooner, the better.

Somebody's gonna get hacked! Hahahahaha. Donny, get Norton and Spybot like a mutha!!!

Seriously, though, I can see tons of people wanting to hack the code for the game, now. I mean, if it's just a patch that will allow or disallow, it won't be complicated to override it. Someone will figure out how.

So I read that we can edit rosters, but we just can't bring them into CC mode. May I ask what the point is, of editing a roster that you can't use in CC?

Not being able to import NCAA rosters nor edit rosters for the new Connected Career Mode I must admit was a bit of a kick in the guts. That said, I am excited for this new game mode which will see me return to the Madden Franchise for the first time since 2010.

What baffles me is that for the last few years the devs have been openig up the customisation options, I remember watching an interview with ian cummings where he went on at some length about how this was always a topic that users brought up during any feedback, yet they chose to intoduce a new mode to replace three major user options with absolutely no editing available without even mentioning it and thought it was a good idea?
Don't get me wrong the features that ARE in CCM did excite me and I DO believe the mode will interest me, and the future looks brighter but I can see no reason why any form of player editing is incompatible with any of the known features if the proper online contols were in place and the proper development and testing completed.
Features such as 32 team control and NCAA import appear more complicated but I'm left with the impression this is a great concept that has been introduced a year before it was ready and without regard to the longtime consumer

Good post. That's the way I see it: appreciate the fact they're trying something new and innovative and give it a fair shot. And if the editing restrictions aren't your cup of tea, move on and play some other game.

Hey, the only reason I even tried Madden the past few years is because it's the only FB game available, otherwise I'd be playing NFL 2K13. So I know all about that complaint. Just saying move on if it's not your cup of tea. Play FIFA, that's what I do. No way I'm spending money on a game without editing capabilities. That's too important a feature to me.

At the same time I appreciate that EA is trying something different with franchise mode, even though it doesn't appeal to me personally. It's all perspective.

I see what you're saying but other sports games don't appeal to me like a football game does I'm in the UK and get my soccer fix from the real thing whereas NFL is harder to come by.
The new stuff in CC does offer much hope for the future but like you say editing is important too and I need to vent

I understand, guess I got all my venting out years ago when they cancelled the 2K series, lol. And nothing surprises or shocks me anymore about this series. They've removed so many features over the years that I've come to expect the worst.

You know whats funny?

I remember in Madden 2005 you could edit your entire teams equipment and play with that said edited equipment online. Sure, your online opponent couldn't see your customized equipment but it was cool none the less.

The devs stated editing will be back, so no.

I actually stated 2-3 years ago that Madden would eventually get rid of editing all together, exactly for the reason you outlined: to force people to buy the game each year if they wanted updated rosters. But in this case it does sound like they plan to put it back in the game next year, but who really knows?

:insert a bunch of foul language that would earn me a red card:

Please don't give me a red card.

... and to think I was excited for Madden 13 for a few days. THIS killed it for me. I play offline and ALWAYS have my own custom changes to the rosters.

Or if it will be fully Back....Like maybe they let you edit some equipment next but we don't get complete ratings customization and Positions changes back for 2-4 years
