NBA 2K10 News Post

Gamespot has posted their first look at NBA 2K10.

Quote:
"The first time you hit the court in NBA 2K10, something might look a bit different. Yes, you'll notice things like the improved player likenesses, including animated faces, better skin textures, and greater lighting effects. But you might also notice a sense of space on the hardwood that simply wasn't present in previous iterations. As developers put it to me, that's because the proportions between player size and the floor had gotten a bit out of whack in older games, resulting in players that were slightly larger than in real life. The team took a look at all of the player models in NBA 2K10 and made size adjustments across the board, with the result of having a slightly more open feel to the play on the court.

Of course, correcting player proportions is just one of the issues addressed in this year's game. As gameplay producer Rob Jones told me, the team wanted to address animations in a comprehensive way this year. To that end, Jones said his mo-cap team captured something in the realm of 9,000 animations during the mo-cap sessions for 2K10. And while not all of those animations were entered into this year's game, a good chunk have either replaced older animations or been added to the game. As he put it, if an animation is pre-NBA 2K9, it had less than a 50 percent chance of making it into NBA 2K10. Part of that new animation philosophy had to do with providing further definition between players. Naturally, a point guard will have access to a different set of moves than a massive center, but developers didn't stop there. They also wanted to capture the differences between how a 7-foot player moves from how a 6-foot-9-inch player gets around the court. As a result, Yao Ming will move like Yao (assuming he ever plays again, that is), Nene will move like Nene, and Steve Nash will do his thing."

Cyberfaces is LONG overdue. I mean Inside Drive had it! The only reason they would opt to use real-life photos is if they didn't feel confident in their art team's work on players faces.

I say no to cyberfaces. I see no problem putting their real faces in there. People just have to complain about something. Anything it doesn't even matter apparently? The one thing in this game not simulated. And people don't even like that. What a Joke.

If that was true then there would be no reason for them to let you see the players at all. I really wonder where you guys come up with this stuff.

I kinda used that example as a way to show how outrageous it is they HAVEN'T included it. Thanks for proving my point

Also, I hate to nitpick but the new warmups look awful. Check the screen of Shaq dunking on the Heat, the Cavs warmups look nothing like the ones they actually use. In fact, it looks like Clippers.

I can't help but laugh at the "NBA BASKETBALL !!" sign that was also present in 2K9. It makes me imagine I'm playing some sort of Japanese NBA game.

By the way, they got Kobe's fingers all wrong! Fix it, 2K! (I'm just being facetious with this last comment, before anybody starts a flame war.)

Looks great to me. My only complaint with the graphics is how the jersey's hover above the player rather than to appear like real cloth sitting on their shoulders. You can see it pretty clearly in this Artest pic:

I guess it must be hard to fix because it's been in the game for years. Thats just nitpicking though and won't in any way stop me from enjoying the game and I always get both nba games each year (except for the tragedy that was live 08) so this year won't be any different.

Cant wait to try the Career Mode.. Hopefully they do it better than EA with that lame Superstar mode.
I beg to differ, view Fisher's jersey in the back. It is completely hovering over him. Even when a player runs in the NBA, you will never see the jersey get that much lift off.

I'm really impressed by the work that 2k is putting into this game.

Really great info. This game should be really good, and I'll find myself buying 2k for the 7th year in a row, if they can give me a solid framerate. Literally last years game had such a bad framerate that it gave me headaches and my eyes were literally twitching after playing a game. Even post patch it was painful to play. And I only play Drive Cam, so them having great framerates on the sideways cams does me no good. If they can do that, I'm still in the game. Otherwise, I'm jumping ship to the other game. Just watched RAC's vids on YouTube and that game is looking a lot better with Mike Wang at the gameplay helm. Please 2k, need the framerate fixed.

hmm something like the Physx engine used by Nvidia....

I have ATI so it doesnt support the phsyx engine >:[ ...i may go Nvidia for my next gen card but im going to wait if ATI has something like physx engine type...

anyway...this is the best cloth physics ive seen..

NOW if 2k decides to use this for 2k10 PC....i might jump to Nvidia sooner!!

I just wish they toned down the muscles a bit, but anyway the players look great!

I think if you saw these guys in real life (Fisher, Artest) you would be amazed at their size, they are well built and bulked.

What I really want to see are the Tayshaun Prince/Chris Bosh of the league, they did a good job on skinnier players in 2k9; so I can't see why they would go back to 2k7 tanks.

I agree with that. Pretty sure there are only 3 body types, along with either ripped or buff muscle types. I think there should be a couple more with each to give a bigger variety of size. Or go back to the old ways and be able to adjust the size AND weight of your players.

Every rookie is basically the exact same size per position. 6'10, 260 for PF would be an example. You rarely see a lanky PF like a Tyrus Thomas, or at least not by just looking at his height and weight.

This issue will probably never be solved unless they find a new way to code such interaction between models and other objects.
yeah i figured that was case. Like i said it was only nitpicking, aslong as the pants don't magically dissappear like in previous versions i'm a satisfied customer.

That batman cloth physics does look amazing, i'm sure it's only a matter of time untill something similar is implemented into nba games (same problem with the hand/rim interactions which are still off in all games) and the problem is solved for good.

Considering i've been playing nba games since:

it's amazing just how far we have come.

I'm excited too, and for the first time in my life I'll be able to buy the game when it's released. Yeah!!!

I really like the news about the court spacing. I can rarely finish a game in 2K9 because the offense always looks a mess. The court often has a cluttered feel to it.

I didn't buy any CH games after 2K6, but the spacing in that game was perfect, the best I've seen in any basketball game to date. Only NBA Live 09 rivals it.

They are not complaining they have good reasons try reading their post over.

Example. If you still got 2k9 trade Shaq from Phoenix to Cleveland, and he will still have the Suns jersey colors in his photo(it's annoying for some people and I am one of those ppl who hate seeing it especially when I go to check stats).
