NBA 2K10 News Post

Gamespot has posted their first look at NBA 2K10.

Quote:
"The first time you hit the court in NBA 2K10, something might look a bit different. Yes, you'll notice things like the improved player likenesses, including animated faces, better skin textures, and greater lighting effects. But you might also notice a sense of space on the hardwood that simply wasn't present in previous iterations. As developers put it to me, that's because the proportions between player size and the floor had gotten a bit out of whack in older games, resulting in players that were slightly larger than in real life. The team took a look at all of the player models in NBA 2K10 and made size adjustments across the board, with the result of having a slightly more open feel to the play on the court.

Of course, correcting player proportions is just one of the issues addressed in this year's game. As gameplay producer Rob Jones told me, the team wanted to address animations in a comprehensive way this year. To that end, Jones said his mo-cap team captured something in the realm of 9,000 animations during the mo-cap sessions for 2K10. And while not all of those animations were entered into this year's game, a good chunk have either replaced older animations or been added to the game. As he put it, if an animation is pre-NBA 2K9, it had less than a 50 percent chance of making it into NBA 2K10. Part of that new animation philosophy had to do with providing further definition between players. Naturally, a point guard will have access to a different set of moves than a massive center, but developers didn't stop there. They also wanted to capture the differences between how a 7-foot player moves from how a 6-foot-9-inch player gets around the court. As a result, Yao Ming will move like Yao (assuming he ever plays again, that is), Nene will move like Nene, and Steve Nash will do his thing."

Lastly:

In most other sports games I don't have the option to change sliders.

If the goalies block too many shots in NHL 10, I can't suddenly decide I need to lower it so I score more goals, etc. I just assume EA made the best hockey game possible, and only in 2k did I begin to think 'this is not right, this needs to be changed' because the option was there for me.

I think if there were no sliders in the first place, it would be less subjective and you would not get people saying "ok the blocks are way too high, I need to tone it down" because we'd assume the game best represents the players and the NBA straight out of the box.

I'm liking the controls for the post up game...I don't know how the shot stick is going to be applied to it though...I wish they delved in deeper to that...

You know what, you are right, 'dissappointed' is strong considering how early in the stage of info on the new game is at ... It's just I'm dissappointed more at the info being released .. I just hate waiting and getting this BS that we have been fed so far .. and I still hold true to everything else I said, graphically the game is completely the same as far as I can see ...

So instead of letting people change what they think might be off or just make it so that it's a more enjoyable game to play people should just suck it up and deal with whatever the developers give them?

It's not, compare Derek Fisher's picture to last year. The skin textures are much better and the faces look more lifelike and animated.

After viewing the live screenshots I'm going to have to say I do like Live's pictures a bit better but I think 2k's facial animations are more life like. Some faces in live look downright angry, like Nash and Deron.

See, sliders can make you love the game in different ways. I.E if your a sim player, you can adjust the sliders to be as sim as possible(slow game speed, realistic tendancies, low steals, low blocks) but if your an arcade player(fast speed, lots of points and shots taken, high # of blocks etc.)

Therefore, if sliders are in a game, it can cater to more than one "crowd". IMO thats why i buy 2k games over EA's except hockey, i buy both. And NHL 10 has sliders now, so you can adjust goalies.

The Live and 2k screens are likely WIP, meaning they are going to improve.

Do you complain about other sports games in this fashion?

No, because the sliders aren't there for you in the first place.

You can't change online ranked matches sliders anyway, so essentially, you're playing "out of the box sim"; and the majority of people hate it.

Dunks in traffic? blocked shots? steals? shooting %'s?

I was making a point that if we were never presented with sliders, we would have most likely complained a lot less.

I don't even mess with sliders but it makes no sense to me to keep the option there out because people wouldn't know any better if there were no sliders. Any sports game I care about has sliders anyway so if someone brought up taking them out in those games I would ask what sense that would make.

Only things I want to see added now is a super deep and new improved CAP mode, Dynamic Atmosphere, and much improved association mode and this game is gold.

I hope all the ball morphing is fixed too...

You're misinterperting, I wasn't saying keep it out cause people wouldn't know better. They should strive to make the best NBA sim possible without giving us options to be subjective and decide 'this is what is right for my style of NBA'.

It's an NBA game, why not have it best represented from the get-go without all the cheekiness?

The fact we can't change it for online ranked matches would mean that online we have to assume those are the best settings for the game to be NBA simulation; which after toning down sliders and game speed in unranked/offline, they are clearly not the best representing of the NBA.

Im sorry, I do not see a difference between this years and last year pics ... It looks exactly the same, some faces do look a bit better, but overall in game, they look the same as this years new screenshots, skin tone, down to how jerseys don't touch player bodies ... IDK, But for me, I don't compare games graphics, I compare the overall game experience and how the grphics look compared to the lat year of the game ... speaking for myself only

Nope. I was at OS before most games had sliders and people still complained the same amount.

The majority of people still complain because we can't change it where it most matters (online ranked matches).

YES SIR!!!!!

"CREATE-A-DRAFT Class" ... if the CAPs are as detailed as the CAPs in Draft Combine ... This is going to be GREAT!!! I personally can't wait for 10-06-09.

Its a lot of nit picking going on but thats what people do ... I overstand ... Everyone doesn't like the same thing so to each their own … But IMO

*The Graphics are amazing (Not perfect but compared to Double Dribble ... they're BREATH TAKING!) and yes BETTER than LIVEs graphics … and LMAO at the people pointing out the Bulls jersey not being “Red” enough & Dino Kobe

*All the 2K9 cheese hating … I don’t get … People shot with there Favorite player OFTEN … it happens.

*Player Ratings / Tendencies : THIS can / will NEVER be PERFECT … someone will always disagree! But it would be nice if the logic behind the ratings would be explained … Are the rating based on season averages or Per 48 minutes or whom ever the Insider has a crush on that month?

*CREATE-A-COACH & the ability to edit / change coaches BEFORE going into Association mode is what I’m hoping to have in 2K10 … Avery Johnson!!!!!

I mean stuff that's been talked about every year, the only new thing we've heard is an entire completely different game, and modes that have been changing almost the same way every year ...

Damn you 2K for not trying to reinvent the wheel every year

I like the fact that they are separating the elite players from the scrubs by streching out the ratings. I think this will make a huge difference in players on the court. Hopefully the "My Player" feature is well balanced enough to keep people hooked. Overall very excited about the game, even though the graphics seem a bit shaky.
