I just recently played through FN3 again and had a blast. This demo is FN3, but better and without the annoying between rounds healing game. If the roster included a few older fighters (Dempsey, Tunney, Joe Louis, Baer, Liston, Marciano, etc.), I'd be in heaven. I would actually prefer a game of all legends, but that's besides the point.

Anybody who's complaining about the game has the right to, but I'm glad I am having fun with the demo (however easy it is) and look forward to this game as much, if not more, than UFC.

Can someone tell me how long it took for the demo code to be emailed to them?

After doing that, honestly I cant distinguish a clear winner. I didn't want to go back specifically to one or the other, both games are great in their own right. I have both preordered.

I pretty much have nothing but pros for each game. The cons I've recognized are these observations: UFC-dont like the fact that you cant move your torso/sway. FN4-dont like the fact that the torso/sway doesnt seem to work fluidly, there were only a couple of times I could effectively use the lean and dodge a punch. I had to use block to stop from being hit. The lean worked EVERY once in awhile.
I like it to, but how exactly do you play it? The AI is no challenge, so I practice bombing the CPU with haymakers, work on by uppercuts and hooks, and soon I will be going for as many counters as i can. Playing my brother was a drag because all he can do is stickmash with PacMan.

Loving the demo still.

- Starting to effectively KO my opponent and seeing the punches coming and reacting.

- I wish body shots would wear stamina down more. Reward folks that don't just head hunt

To be honest I was a little disappointed at first with the demo. It seemed like I couldn't get the hang of the TPC. I could only throw right uppercuts and felt my haymakers would never connect. Now, I can lean better and block just a little bit better but its getting better. Once I am able to play 10 or 12 rounds this game will be a lot better. With the 3 rounds I just find myself throw endless amounts of punches. Can't wait till July, but UFC should hold me till then.

Hope I can get some matches online with some of you guys or gals.

I don't know if it has been discussed but has anyone used the replay option? I was replaying rounds the other night and this game is absolutely beautiful. Man I can't wait to get my hands on the full copy.

What's the mechanic for recovering from a KO? Do you still try and align the referee?

How many times do I have to ask this question? This is absurd.

It seems that the less health you have when you go down the harder it is to balance and get up, at least that's what I sensed. That's good because if it was the same difficulty everytime to get up you may never knock anybody out online who are really good at it. So I'm hoping that it works out well in the full game so if it's the 10th round and you're just pummeling the guy and knock him down it's gonna take alot of skill for him to get back up.

I know alot of early reveiwers said that they find it difficult to balance it but from an early KD I have had no problem getting up.
Thanks, it sounds interesting.

I agree. My brother played the demo a number of times on Saturday and would routinely throw over 400-500 punches in 3 rounds.
Despite that heavy pace, his stamina never seemed to take much of a hit. Maybe it'll be more prevelant with heavyweights? I would hope so.
But I liked how Brizzo addressed that need and I hope sliders will help as well.

Other than that, I'm LOVING this demo.
I love how it's not easy KO'ing a guy like Pacquio in 3 rounds or less. You really have to work him, counter, sprinkle in some haymakers, and use great defense.
And taht's how it should be.

I can't wait for the full version and give Legacy Mode a thorough work through.

400-500 punches in 3 rounds makes me ill. There better be an accelerated clock to get those punch stats realsitic. Its ggoing to be a cheesy KO festival otherwise. Probably the most disappointing thing I've read.

Amen brother - the fighting has no substance at all to me - I don't need every punch to have devastating effect - but man I am just not digging the physics at all . . .like I said before , there is just something missing in this game and I think it's a combination of the lack of pop and the game jsut doesn't feel right to me - I wanted to like it - it's just not much fun

Keep this in mind though:

1. There will be sliders
2. Brian Hayes (developer) said the final build will have less forgiving stamina
3. My brothers stamina was almost always at 50% - which is the main reason why in 15+ bouts he never knocked Pacquio down or out.

If you know how to box properly (countering, blocking, jab, etc) taking apart someone who throws 120+ punches a round won't be a problem.

I agree that I would like to see more penalties for throwing at that volume, but the first two points I raised will hopefully correct that.

I almost forgot to mention (and maybe others here have already done so) but in the demo you'll notice that there are 'pause' or 'freeze' moments where you, or your opponent, will be temporarily open for a counter punch after a big miss or block.
It's not nearly as bad as Rd3's parry system, but it's there.

This is where guys that love to stick-mash have potential to be picked apart.

Punch connections. Landed punch collisions are cleaner and hit reactions have more intensity.
This is the first thing I noticed when playing the demo. I don't remember the punches lacking any pop when testing it in Vancouver, so I'm very happy that the FN team is fixing it for the final release.

Thanks I had not seen that before - I'll keep my chin up on this. Im not giving up and I have not canceled my order yet - I am hopeful that the finished product will be alot more fun - I almost broke my own rule of judging a complete game on a demo

Me too. I like that there is a small window there, but at times it does seem a touch too long.
Shortening it up a hair would be perfect.

It would be even cooler if it depended on the fighters speed. So against a prime Tyson or Sweat Pea, if you miss that window will seem like an eternity while against a guy like Foreman, not so much.

when do non-pre order people get the demo?

the stamina bar is really discouraging for me....i tested it, threw 283 punches in3 rounds with hatton and his stamina bar was near full.

maybe this will change when we go to a higher difficulty? who knows right?

but then again, at higher difficulties will the cpu spam haymakers and throw 400 punches in 4 rounds?

meat and potato things we have to wait for on release date.

for the poster above....2 player is available
Well for these two conditioned fighters, I wouldn't expect them to lose much stamina in 3 rounds no matter how many punches they throw, on the other hand try throwing, and missing a lot of big punches and it goes a bit quicker.

Another thing I like is that there is a meter for blocking so you can't just sit there and hold block all day. The game responds better to timed blocking instead of just holding it. I do hope that you can turn the HUD off though, I hate people that fight to the meters, not realistic IMO.

Also, I wish they let you move around the ring more freely it's pretty hard to put a lot of distance between you and your opponent. Seems like they over emphasized the infighting just a tad, all fighters don't fight that way...

I do like the body punching but if you fight solely with analog sticks, as we do in my league, it take some getting used to.
I am glad to see that it appears they have done away with the buttong mashing all together.. Nice one!

All in all it looks pretty solid and I like the reply editing too.

One thing I did notice is that during loading, the music seemed to skip at times and I did have one instance where the game froze and I had to reboot.

Also, I think Tyson should have been rated higher than the 88 they gave him. It seems that they rated all the other boxers in their prime, so who was better that Tyson in his prime? Hell I think they gave Tommy Morrison and 85 or 87, didn't they?

More to come....
