Madden 2010 News Post

Check out the new Madden NFL 10 blog. This one features the importance of an early community day.

Quote:
"On April 10, we flew in 8 of the most hardcore Madden fans for a marathon testing day to get an extremely early look at our Alpha build and provide feedback based on where the game is thus far. You may ask, “What is new about this? Haven’t you had community events in the past?” Yes, we have done these before, but there are some key differences."

Asomugha should damn be too good. He was the number 1 ranked CB last year by a mile.

1. Nnamdi Asomugha, Oakland Raiders
Season Totals: 29 attempts, 4.97 YPA, 62.07 Forced INC%, 0 TDs, 1 INT

Thats right he had 11 completions against him. He was a freaking monster. If you're throwing to against Asomugha in M10, and its working, then man coverage is broken lol.

Compared to the second ranked guy Corey Webster

2. Corey Webster, New York Giants
Season Totals: 66 attempts, 3.92 YPA, 65.15 Forced INC%, 1 TD, 3 INTs

Well Asomugha should be 100 MCV. And 95+ PRC

I just want to say great job to the guys who got to go down to the Madden Event. It's clear the game will be benefitted by having you down. I know I can't wait to see it and it's been great reading your thoughts in this thread.

Being a ginormous 2kfootball fan, I definitely concede the offensive playbooks to EA. Madden 09's playbooks were the coolest ones I've personally ever used (outside of Tecmo bowl = 4 plays ). I LOVED the automatic motion on plays... especially pass plays. The pass play where a reciever runs across the formation and the ball is snapped while he is running and he runs a route.... just awesome.

I am very familiar with the defense in 2kfootball, but one thing they do VERY wrong is tip off the offense BIG TIME with hot routes. Every time you man a DB up with an offensive player, he "shuffles" giving away the fact you did it. Also, whenever you send someone to blitz, the player actually walks to the gap immediately.. giving away the freaking blitz. I have found some super-secret workarounds but it still annoys the crap out of me.

Madden hides their defense fairly well. I think the next step to take would be doing one thing 2k games does great=defensive matchups. Along with that having blitz plays that are pre-planned to stem into certain places... or even better to RANDOMLY stem and fake stem at different times when the user chooses to do so. 2k's games can give away defensive plays by stems that are always the same, but if they have some variance and bluffing.... the system would be much more authentic.

I know this has been discussed by others smarter than me but I thought I'd just bring it up and maybe one of the testers could elaborate if any of this rings a bell!

I gotta find a way to figure those out.

I've only been on the Net once in four days (a new record!) to check my e-mail quickly.
I'm back now, so I should be able to add some input into this thread.

But, as you guys must know by know, we're all bound by non-disclosure agreements and EA's lawyers are better than mine.

As for the event itself, wow ... what a long day. LOL
Got to be myself at 2 and had to be up at 5:45 a.m. for my flight to Vegas.
Welcome back!

I was wondering if you could respond to some non-specific franchise-related questions.

What was your reaction to this year's franchise mode? Without saying what they were, were their updates you were pleased to see and were there omission that disappointed you. How'd it compare to your expectations?

Props to AJ and LBZ for taking the community head on and answering some questions. I've sprinkled in here and there, but not nearly as much these guys are

I felt you could lead receivers pretty well. But in my experiences, it more often led to an incomplete pass. I don't think that was a flaw in the gameplay; I think that could be more a factor of the new QB ratings. I didn't play much with Manning or Brady so maybe I would've been more successful leading passes with those guys.

No, the real test is doing it with Pennington.

It's automatic? You have to tell me what kickers you've been using in 09, because I can't even make the goal posts past 45 with Dan Carpenter.

My overall impression of Madden in its alpha form is positive - the biggest things that stood out to me was the vastly improved offensive blocking and cpu run game. I have never seen blocking this good in a Madden - seriously.

But what if you make so little that it is pointless for EA to pursue litigation against you? No sense in suing someone with no assets! Hurry, sign everything you own over to someone and then spill the beans.

Point is, more than ever, the QB's feel different as far as abilities . So it would be inaccurate for me to simply say that lead passing lead to several incomplete passes if I didn't consider who I was playing QB with. On a couple of occasions, I subbed in Kitna for Romo and I was truly excited to see the disparities in their abilities. It'll definitely make for a more interesting franchise mode.

Ha, I completely understand. The intent was sarcasm, the result was failure.

Just to add my two cents to the topic of animations:

I think many people will be impressed in this area this year. For years, 2K has won this battle hands down in football games. But with Madden 10, I'd say that the quality of animations are at the very least in the same neighborhood as 2K. To even be in the same conversation with 2K in terms of animations is a huge step forward IMO.

Don't bother asking me to elaborate any further than that .

Man you read my mind! Damn it!

Well to even be able to mention Madden and 2K in the same sentence as far as animations goes, is a GIANT leap forward. I'm so excited to see the game in motion.

Music to my ears Dave.

Seems video football games have been plagued since forever, with one fairly common problem...the cpu's awesome passing game, and it's pitiful run game. And Madden '09' was certainly no exception.

Great news that this has been addressed with M10.

Great to hear that Rgiles.

When the first video of M10 is released, as we all know, it will be analyzed frame by frame.

And a 150 post thread will follow.

I have a question I would love to hear from each of the 8 that went to CD.

Does your unique experience make waiting until August 14 more difficult than it was before?

After reading the reports and the blogs I can hardly wait until Madden comes out. I would think knowing a lot of what the game will be like may make the wait even more unbearable. Just turning 09 on and knowing all of the things that are already fixed for 10 makes 09 less and less fun to play. It would tear me apart having actually played M10.

To the Elite 8 (lol i love that's how we're coining it ), thank you so much for giving this amazing feedback to EA to improve the game after your time with it. This is BY FAR the single most interesting thread of read on these boards, and that is a testament to your graciousness in answering all of our questions. To see how impressed you all are walking away from the game has me salivating to get my hands on it. Thanks again.
Couple questions for you Adem (or any of you guys):

1) Were all 32 teams played with a few times?

2) How was the feel from team to team? (I know you probably can't go into too much detail, but this is always very important to me. Teams playing like their real-life counterparts. A general thumbs up or down would be awesome ).

And a thank you to EA. Ian and Co. your hard work is more apparent by the day. I commend all of your efforts. Great idea to take the Elite 8 in and polish/change the game based of their advice.
