Madden 2010 News Post

Check out the new Madden NFL 10 blog. This one features the importance of an early community day.

Quote:
"On April 10, we flew in 8 of the most hardcore Madden fans for a marathon testing day to get an extremely early look at our Alpha build and provide feedback based on where the game is thus far. You may ask, “What is new about this? Haven’t you had community events in the past?” Yes, we have done these before, but there are some key differences."

lets go back in time and see what you have to look foward to: lets start with madden 08

This is from kombo.coms interview with Ea on madden 08

How do you ensure that gamers still connect with the Madden franchise year after year?

EA said: The NFL is our source for inspiration, and as it changes our game changes with it. We are gamers making the game so we make sure we deliver something that we will want to play. We have more ideas every year than we have time to implement, so time is our biggest challenge.

Why do you think gamers should purchase this newest Xbox 360 version of Madden when the previous 360 version was disappointing to say the least?

Last year's game laid a solid foundation but this year’s product is incredible. Madden 07 X360 is a phenomenal football game, in our opinion the best football game ever made. The graphics are incredible, the new features that we have talked about above are great innovations in gameplay and the game play experience, and the gameplay is solid. A well tuned running game is the centerpiece of the on field action in a game that is downright addictive.

You know what you got with madden 07 but sitll didnt ask the question and still dont ask about the QB RUNNING BACK A MILLION MILES AND HITTING PERFECT PASSES. To make you happy they gave you guys some pictures and like now you are all happy over towels and hand warmers but hey its not about the game play you just wanted hand towels and hand warmers in the game so what did you get..........

a piss poor game that had NO SIM written all over it but hey you guys played football and know what a real football game is

madden 08 Disconnect glitch
lagging
pass pump glitch
qb sneak glitch
qb draw glitch
unbumpable wr routes
money playes for fast qb
wide open receiver glitch
vick glitch
punt block glitch
nano blitzes

so when madden 09 is about to hit you have to start to wonder IS THE BASEBALL TEAM MAKING A FOOTBALL GAME

then madden 09 hits

more pictures to make you say wow i cant wait for the game to come out maybe this year well get hand towels and warmers
forget about game play the pictures look good enough. because anyone who has played REAL football knows 08 was NOT a real football game even though they said in many interviews and live by the code ITS IN THE GAME

so what came out

Celebrating 20 years of innovation and counting, Madden NFL 09 delivers its most complete NFL football package ever. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or picking up the game for the first time, players of all skill levels will enjoy a unique, yet challenging experience with the innovative Adaptive Difficulty Engine, which tailors the game to match your playing style. Instantly improve your game with the all-new virtual Training Center or incorporate feedback with EA Sports
BackTrack, allowing you to learn from your mistakes on the fly. With a new broadcast presentation and online leagues, plus more than 85 new features and enhancements, Madden NFL 09 is the most authentic and adaptable game in sports video game history. I caught up with Madden NFL 09 lead producer Ryan Ferwerda to talk about the game.

but what did we get

more pictures to make people say wow.... forget about the game play look at these pictures and not to be rude but let be real not everyone has a 72 inch tv to see everything in those pictures.

-Have your QB cross the line of scrimmage before the ball is snapped. Wherever the QB is when the play clock expires, that’s where the ball will be hiked. Good for a touch down every single play.
-Offsides Disconnection (Game doesn't count)
-Run into the QB when you are on defense and use this glitch to cancel
the game. (No one receives win or loss)
-Injury Disconnection glitch
but its ok because 2010 is going to be fixed
now they send you guys pictures and you say wow WE HAVE HAND TOWELS and still dont ask about the QB RUNNING BACK A MILLION MILES AND HITTING PERFECT PASSES
but you have you hand warmers.
I just hope EA takes over take two so we can get some real guys who know football 101. Im sure you madden heads hate this post but The truth hurts. tell me one thing in this post that isnt true with the cheats and bs but you get your hand warmers so you win this time while the game play still cant fix the QB RUNNING BACK A MILLION MILES AND HITTING PERFECT PASSES

I must be dreaming again.

Coach, you are real late to the party.

If you were here around November or December when THE NEW MANAGEMENT TEAM(not past) was looking for suggestions, maybe you would show more respect that what you are now.

It seems like you just post your thoughts without doing your homework or research. That's why most people are putting you on ignore.

It just isn't worth it at this stage.

You don't need to come into the forums after reading the blog and finding out who went to CD to keep firing personal insults. That isn't how this place is run.

So on one play with the DT's performing a twist stunt, I let the play run then paused it. Then I asked Ian could I have his ear for a sec. I showed him the problems. Both DT's were 1) standing up; 2) bumping into each other. So I actually demonstrated a little bit of how it should work. Ian grabs his laptop and pulls up the tools. We are sitting there examining animations and which ones we can swap out to get this thing working right. Adembrowski comes over and we are all three looking at options.

We finally come up with a very well animated twist stunt by the Defensive Tackles (for the most part). Ian says, hold on about 15 mins and I should have it loaded up in your build. He loaded it up and the twist stunt with the DT's worked a hell of a lot better. The looper is still going a tad bit further than I would like, but the penetrator is doing his stunt perfectly. Since then, I have sent Ian and Anthony White an entire list of defensive plays where the stunts need smoother animations, with more precise stunting, better looping by linebackers as they loop with Dlinemen ect (I have gone through all the 3-4 sets, Nickel, Nickel Strong, Dime, Dime Flat, Dollar, 46, Nickel 2-4-5, Nickel 1-5-5, I'm going to send the 4-3 plays either tomorrow or Thursday). So all they need to do with that is swap out the animation sets. If they get all of the plays I have for them swapped out with smoother animation sets then I anticipate some really nice schemes. My idea is for you to simply audible to a blitz without having do much setting up at all.
Wow...this my friend is why you were at the community day. It seems alot of people are harping about this and that, they got to go, blah blah blah. Honestly though, we all know what the game should look like or what we think it should play like, but you clearly were a good choice to be there as you not only put in the work there but you are putting in alot of extra work going forward.

I am sure all the others are too but in reality you guys seem like you are having to do a lot of follow up work that will take up a lot of personal time in which you are not paid for. I don't think people are seeing it that way. They see that you got to play 10 early which is nor really what was going as it was an early build. I for one appreciate that we have such dedicated members that are able to put in the extra time and WORK that is involved in being one to go to community day. I for one would never have the time to do all the extra that you guys seem to be putting in. Nice work guys!

can i ask a question??

it seems like EA is cutting back on the qb dropping back 30 yards or whatever.
it also seems like EA has created a new 'throwing on the run' rating

YET when people hike & run to the sidelines they DO NOT THROW ON THE RUN!!!
they run outside of the pocket, almost to the sideline. SET UP THE QB & FEET then throw.
maybe a 'pocket presence' rating would do. as for ;throwing on the run' people dont do that. they manually move the qb and set up the feet 5 yards from the sideline...........then if no-one is open they take off upfield.

has this been addressed?
This has already been talked about by LBZ within this thread I believe and it was pointed out to the devs while we were down there.

Once again, wasn't this ruckus guy suspended for 2 weeks? It's ridiculous at this point. The guy needs to stop sipping on that haterade. It's done, maybe you'll get your chance to be at the CD next year, or maybe not. Isn't there some kind of tournament going on, or a bus to be on homie?

Coach K let me ask you this, has a madden team ever been into the community like they are now? Instead of pointing out past fails why not just list some things that you want to know about. We have 8 guys here (I only know of 2 in this forum) that can answer questions about the game. Nobody here has all there faith in madden until they have there hands on it, yea we like what we see right now but we haven't played it. You pointed out some glitches no game is perfect every game will have there glitches. This madden team is showing improvement but I'm not sold till I get to strip the game down.

I read through this beast more and EA definitley picked the right guys to go. First off, I have been reading and interacting with LBZs since2k5, and I remember he pointed out defensive alignment flaws of APF when we were all super happy to just have the game in our sweaty hands. I know the guy is anal, and that is needed in a football game, which has to be complex as hell to create.

Ian is cool, and I remember last year he offered to let me jam out on the game before release, but maybe not even at Tiburon. I don't remember, but I didnt get to do it. I did buy the release on midnight, and probably sold the game a few months later.

You guys have to understand that growing up in Winter Park I have seen my old friend who played QB (I was a RB) on my high school team go to work for EA and design the game. And this was back when 2k was just better. I would give him grief about it if I saw him out, but I always thought it was cool just that the dude was making football games. So even though I am jaded because Madden has been awful on Nex Gen, I think this is amazing that the new team is getting 2k guys to go and make the game better. I don't have a lot of time to buy video games anymore, so I get 3-4 a year tops. I want the best of the best, or I'm selling it. Football is my favorite sport, but I will go w/out it and just play APF if need be.

Reading this thread gives me a different hope then before. Because I don't think LBZ would blow smoke up our butts, or any of the guys for that matter.

I do have a couple questions that may have been touched upon, but I didn't see.

We know the playbooks are good, but I was wondering how accurate they are this year. For example, the Dolphins use a ton of formations, in fact they led the league in that. obviously the wildcat needs to be in the game. But, I am wondering how accurate the playbooks are to the teams. Last year, they were not bad..An example was Cam Cameron's offense for BMore. They ran that single back trips that he likes. I thought they touched upon his style, but did not get as deep as I wanted. Is there any more depth to the formations and playcall variations this year? I have always wanted this from a game, where I can come out with a team and take on their identity and run their offensive schemes in a lifelike manner. I still do not believe that this is where it needs to be, but it is getting better.

Screen passes. I could not use them well in 09. I needed to because of all the nano blitzers. The screens in APF are incredibly affective on blitzers. I remember when I got that game I was getting blitzed by some kid online, and my cousin was watching. He was saying "run a screen", and I said "screen passes never work in video football, but I will try it"..you can imagine my joy when I peeled off a 20 yard play because it worked to perfection. In 09, what happened for me was that the RB would just pop out wide and be in a bunch of people and it was like you could not even throw him the ball. There was nothing fluid about the play..the RB would stop in a weird area and he had no OL really blocking for him. The timing was off on that play, because if you waited a bit (like you are supposed to) the play would not develop. So I am wondering if that has changed.

Finally, how does the running game feel compared to 2k5? I did not like it much at all in 09. I would go back to APF and it was far better for me.

I'm doing a lot of work actually. I've already sent in a 10 page document and am working on another to get out by tonight or tomorrow. After that I might be done. Then I'll move on to impressions and hopefully finish them up by next weekend and wait until they give clearance to post them. Everything I'm doing now is off of my 2am - 4am notes.

oh yeah, and hand warmers, neon green gloves for the Seahawks, and some of the CD people talked about their experiences with the game. Good stuff all in all. However it has been a sort of train wreck. Coach, who used to have some respect, has pi$$ed it all away with his ignorant posts.

LB I got to say if the crew at EA ever choose to pick a guy to help with the design of Madden 11 and bring them on as a member of the team. I would HIGHLY HIGHLY wish Ian would choose you. Much props to my man LB, one of the best football guys on OS.
