Madden 2010 News Post

Check out the new Madden NFL 10 blog. This one features the importance of an early community day.

Quote:
"On April 10, we flew in 8 of the most hardcore Madden fans for a marathon testing day to get an extremely early look at our Alpha build and provide feedback based on where the game is thus far. You may ask, “What is new about this? Haven’t you had community events in the past?” Yes, we have done these before, but there are some key differences."

I think everyone expects Madden 10 to be several strides ahead of Madden 09, but I don't think anybody is expecting to see what we saw.

Let me put it this way... we've spent 18 hours with the game. We watched a power point presentation in which damn near every jaw in the room hit the floor. We've seen it, it's a hell of a lot easier for us to believe it's actually come that far. We've all tempered our views, we've all pointed out the flaws, but we've always said "hey, this might get fixed, this is so close" etc.. And to have you, LBzrule, and BezO come back praising it like you have... I can imagine it smells fishy to some... how does Madden, who was hard pressed to figure out how to get defensive hot routes back into the game 3 frickin' years later, ever make this much progress in one year?

Hell, I was asking them that when I was there.
I hope i doesn't dissapoint now, i'm going to hold off getting excited though. Stop getting my so hyped!

I tried to force it over there a couple of times. Bad move. His break to the ball is sick, his recovery time is sick, and that's on the few times he's caught out of position, which rarely happens.

We actually found a glitch where he'd jump a non-existent route and leave a streak route uncovered while he took about 3 steps inside... as long as he turned the right way, he'd still get back before the ball got there. I can honestly say he was too good in that build.

no i think that's about right : ). he got thrown to like 10 times last season and gave up a total of like 100 yards or so and 20 or 30 of those yards came across one of mistakes of getting a pass interference against Vincent Jackson in the game against san diego.

The one problem I found in the passing game is that slower game speed means passing windows stay open longer. However, so long as the pass rush is balanced, this shouldn't be a problem as you'll only have 3-4 seconds to get rid of the ball anyways.

The matchups are outstandingly well balanced. You don't throw right against the Raiders unless you've got a Larry Fitzgerald over there. Asomugha is just scary over there.

I'd like to see 'em tune it so there's a bit more jostling between defenders and receivers, but they're on the right track on this, definitely.

that was more of an answer than I expected...but

Adem thanks for answering and giving more info than just a yes/no. Again, another person I'm glad got the opportunity to go to the CD event.

That's decent man. I really appreciate that.

I did find it funny to see one guy with like over 1600 posts exploding about it, and this was one of the supporters just a week ago, lol.

I'm not really taking this seriously though, I've honestly been laughing at it all day. It's a done deal and they still can't let it go, lol. For the people who are acting like that, it's probably a good thing that EA didn't bring them down.

^^ PS, I meant "practice mode", not franchise mode.

And it's been a release for me. Getting some of this stuff out there. I want you guys to be excited, because what you're gonna get in August is a quality product, much more than you would have expected when Ian first took over the position. It is going to be fun for me to watch your reactions to some of the news yet to come.

Coach Ruckus.....

I have been here from the beginning of this thread and we go wayyy back and you are on my friends list so let me say this.....

I have had PM's with Ian myself on issues on the game and he has even taken the time to look at some of the links I have sent him on APF and the 2K forums. Ian is trying hard to make this the best game Madden has put out.

I don't know all of these guys but the fact that TheWatcher pulled out 2K5 and said bluntly that he would put it in if Madden 10 was not up to his standards should tell you something. Just look at TheWatchers signature LOL. LBzRules has a lot of knowledge of Defense and how they should react and play and played APF for a long time and I am sure he still does.

They asked the questions you would have asked and more and are still in discussions with them. Please understand that they can not talk about most of the stuff they have seen because of a signed agreement. I am sure they are busting at the seams wanting to tell us everything but they can't.

You know how hard core I am with 2K and you know how Hard Core my leagues are because you were in them. I have full confidence that the people they sent and the progress Ian and team has made will make huge strides in Madden 10. Will it be 2K over night? No, but they don't need to be. I would love something far superior to 2K. I am not a fan of 2K but I am a fan of the best football game out there and I don't care who makes it.

Also I have read every post in this thread believe it or not LOL.

This says it all I think, and I'm a 49ers fan. Then again, Ronnie Lott is there, so it's cool.

I wanna take the time to express my gratitude and thanks to the Elite 8. I couldn't think of a better group of guys(maybe ones equal to) to attend the event and represent what the community here has been asking for and wanting.

I can only speak for myself obviously when I say this, but for me, I know what I want to see and what I see on Sundays, but football isn't my most knowledgeable sport. I can't speak x's and o's and don't know how to speak the terms to get a point across. Other sports yes, but not football. So its comforting to me, that guys like the Elite 8 went to represent my voice and get what I want in the game, into the game.

So thank you guys. At least from one humble poster who's been here more years than I care to count, its truly, truly, truly, appreciated.

he's also a former raider , but he's known more so for his days in whiner land . I can't wait to see fitzgerald matchup against asomugha in madden 10!!!!!!! Thanks again to the 8 that have been answering questions and getting pretty much the entire community amped for a game that isn't going to drop for another 3 months or so.

Whats with all the commotion over the screen shot? Its actually quite disappointing IMO. Im happy they added more accessories, but this far along with next gen consoles and the player models still dont look right, lighting, textures look off as well.

I know I sound like I have something against EA, but just compare close up shots of FIFA 09 and you'll see that these Madden screens are not that great at all. And BTW Fifa is 11 v 11 with 3 animated refs on the field.

Forgive our current lighting and skin tone tuning that is still in progress, but I thought you all would dig the new accessories. - straight from the blog, it will only improve my friend.

You should read the whole blog (especially the paragraph right before the screen shot).

Fifa is also i lot smaller player models and you cant actually see that detail in the game. As for the shot Ian said it was an early one and the lighting and textures hadn't been perfected for it, was just to show the accesories.

Keep in mind the game is also far from being done. Ian also said the lighting has not been tuned yet. For it being April, I say the game looks damn good.

I hope in conjunction with the slower passes, slower game speed, we are given more control of the pass. Madden 09 pretty much feels like it only has two speed, rocket fire, and lob, with absolutely nothing inbetween. In APF2K8, I can pass a ball, and the speed will control whether I lead, hit them in stride, or throw behind them (that's on regularly thrown balls), and then there's the touch / lob pass that leads the receiver.

Madden has a larger field than AFP2K8, and even APF2K8 struggles to cover zones properly, especially on the wide part of the field. I think that's why the Zone Warp bug was so bad in '08 and they have constantly tuned it down.

Our ability to see the 'whole' field is a huge advantage over what a QB gets to see. I think 2K's approach of shrinking the field to allow proper momentum / player movement to be in play was a good choice, though I will admit I enjoy Madden's look of the open field. I would like to have both, but if a smaller field helps add to the realism in the player movements and counters the player vision, then I'm all for doing what needs to be done to make the game play the best it can be.

that is a very true statement because of this 2k feels tighter and madden feels slightly looser. as long as they keep on making improvements in route running, ol/dl interaction, and db/wr interaction I think madden has a chance at being the better football game then any of the other installments in the 2k series. august can't come soon enough
