I like stuck in the middle about the stream. The quirks I like if they right correctly but as far as what was shown didn't really get me excited about the mode. I know I have no interest in critical situations or quick manage. So it may feel like 16 with the features in franchise. However that maybe not be such a bad thing i really enjoyed 16 and I plan to carry over my team.

Thanks, just curious if there wasn't any real new news today but doesn't sounds like it. Hopefully no issues with carry over saves.

I, like most of you, have been a fan of The Show for a long time. We each have our own reasons why this game is important to us and those reasons are as varied as the way we play the game.

I play Franchise and RTTS exclusively. I have messed with DD and Battle Royale a little bit. But those modes are just not for me. I like collecting the cards and use the equipment in RTTS of course. But I don't care about it's status. I will use a bat because it a Louisville Slugger not because its a Gold or Diamnond.

I love these modes and I know I lot of you do too. I play every inning of every game, just like a lot of you as well. What I don't do anymore is play a lot of other games. I reallized about two years ago that I was buying all of these games and I would play The Show and one or two RPG's in the course of a year. That realization has changed the way I do things now. Last year I bought 5 games total and so far this year I have bought one. The Show will be number 2.

The Show is my go to game, 2 or 3 games a day, more if I have a day off. This is the way I like to play. Slow and steady, I love when my games take 2 hours and I consider it time well spent. I was super excited for '17 and I guess in a way I still am a bit. I am all for options and I am glad they are a successful developer, they certainly deserve to be. I have the utmost respect for them and their game. They have done things for me personally that are simply amazing.

With all of that said. I am not really happy for the direction the game is taking. I am happy for all of the new players, I am happy for The Games success, I happy for the Developers. But I am not happy for me. Every year it seems the game gets a little further away from the game I want it to be and thats fine. Thats the way these things work. I will purchase '17 day one but then I think it is time for a break from the yearly cycle. I usually get about 4-5 years of a franchsie done and I rarely carry over becuase The Show always seemed to give me a reason to want to start over. This year with the additions of AI, lighting, models, uniforms, new park for Atlanta, updates for RTTS etc. I will be starting over again.

The difference is this time I think its for good. While I still believe The Show is a good product, it is changing into something that does not interest me. Maybe down the road things will change and I hope they do. But I think I can be content with '17 and let time move on without me.

Wish you all the best and see you in the ballparks.
Now this is how you air your grievences. Good post.

I guess I kind of forgot that HDR got leaked for those with PS4 pro and 4k (I dont so forgot lol!)
Some of the quirks actually effect the game but PCI size only. Some basically just describe the attributes
Also only critical situations on the current teams schedule that you are looking at.
I think thats mainly it

Hey now, he's been working on one-hopping throws to first base this spring. They figure it is better to make Rizzo dig them out of the dirt than the ball ending up in the stands or in right field.

I'm a nobody, but I'll be pretty frank in saying that I'd personally like to see less gimmicks and more substance. I think its critical that Franchise Mode needs to be the absolute focus on The Show 18.

I'm a Franchise guy. But for the last few years I've found myself excited to buy the show, get OSFM and then.... the excitement flatlines. The fact of the matter is that there's nothing really in Franchise that keeps me coming back for more. Like others have pointed out (and I've said this for years now), its simple things that make the game more immersive for me even if they don't account for much throughout the mode. Such as.. setting ticket prices, adding vendors, being able to re-sod the field, or add more advertising, "placement" of the advertising, being able to change the grass patterns (this visual aspect of the game kept the game FRESH).

Its the ACTUAL "Litte Things" like that, in my opinion, that gave Franchise that little sense of imagination for the user that made it fun when you're not actually playing a game. To have a sense like the whole operation meant something and that you felt like you were making an impact, even though it may have not made any difference whatsoever. I find it mindboggling as to why those little features were removed from the game. I truly do. The Show is known for giving the user options. I'd like to have that back, what would it hurt to have kept it? But I digress. Just my 2 pesos.

Cheers, SDS. You guys do a hell of a job either way.

Visually, the game is looking really good. And unlike most here, my expectations on getting everything on my wish list checked isn't too high. So I'm left with less disappointment.

However, one minor complaint I have is simmed scoring seems to be too low like the previous year, though that can be remedied with attributes and slider editing. Was just hoping I wouldn't have to rely on band-aid fixes as much this year.

# 190 WaitTilNextYear @ 03/09/17 11:14 PM
Hmmm...so what did we learn today? SDS has ONE programmer for Franchise Mode and also just one for DD apparently. That seems truly odd. Ah, the cold realities of bottom-line corporate America.

Here are a few quick tidbits I took from the stream...

(1) I think I like the idea of using the Quick Manage feature to babysit my minor league clubs a bit more closely. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense. And, although I agree that overall this stream seemed to be a bit of a buzzkill, these new simming options are most definitely major additions and no doubt took some massive work to get in there, code, and test. While you can be nonplussed that other features weren't added (and this list is a long one for lots of us), one can't really claim that these new sim options are minor features while keeping a straight face. One could totally understand how the Quick Manage/Critical Situations stuff kept their one programmer busy for an entire dev cycle.

(2) Since it was explained that quirks essentially only affect the PCI size, this means that quirks won't impact simmed games whatsoever unless there's something I'm missing. So, in a way, those worried about stat imbalances brought on by quirks probably have no reason to be worried. If you wanted the quirks to have a bigger effect, then you might be a bit disappointed by them being tied only to PCI size instead of having a hard-coded effect on player attributes inside and outside of played games.

(3) When they showed off the Joe Smith vs Hyun-Soo Kim Critical Situation matchup, I was a bit disappointed that: (A) the cpu logic let Smith, a righty, face Kim, a lefty with a platoon quirk that gives him an even bigger advantage against RHPs; and (B) in a 2-2 game in the 9th, it would seem like a good spot for potentially bringing a closer in. Albeit, I could understand John Gibbons wanting to save his closer for extra innings...kinda like how Buck Showalter would use Zach Britton, lol.

(4) I didn't really follow the explanation for what the cash flow was added to help with. I'll probably have to play around with it to understand that better. First impression is it seems to be adding a bit of artificial depth in the sense that I'm not sure that it really matters.

(5) The game looks good already and they weren't even playing in HDR mode (confirmed to be in). I am looking forward to seeing the PS4 Pro/4K HDR TV/MLB 17 combination in the flesh....that could be epic visually. That combined with dat ball physics tho...

All of this is moot in this mode, and pretty much within the game in general.

Pertaining to the quoted part of your post, I believe Luis mentioned something to the effect that you can get more info by looking at the game log screen. For example, even though in the Quick Manage interface in real time, it'll just say "double" or "line out" or whatever, the game log would say "double down the line" or "lined out to center field, runner out advancing to home" etc.

Hmmm. I have conflicting opinions about this design.

One the one hand, getting maybe ~15-20 Critical Situation notifications each calendar day for a boatload of different teams would make it get old fast, so just getting into those situations for your "main team" seems appropriate and a better use of gaming time.

On the other hand, it would be cool to be able to toggle which types of Critical Situations you want to be involved in. While the standard "save opportunity" or "walkoff opportunity" that we saw a lot of in this stream might be a bit mundane to jump into for every team in a 30-team control franchise, people would probably want to be involved with really special ones like perfect games, cycles, 3000th hit, 500th HR etc no matter which team that player was on. If you could toggle getting into (or at least being notified about) these truly rare Critical Situations somehow, despite being on a different team's "front end," that would add some nice immersion and breadth to the mode.

The first thing we looked at this cycle back in April of last year for franchise mode was rotating schedules I want this feature, Luis, wants this feature Daniel the programmer wants this feature.

He looked at the code and told us we can't do this in 8 months it's too much code, too risky, and that would be the only thing we got. So we choose to work on Quick manage and critical situations. We love these features, our SVT wants these features and they took all 8 months to implement correctly.

Nothing is as easy as it might seem on the outside.
Instead of trying to program all of the scheduling rules and guidelines it would take to dynamically build the future year schedules, would it be feasible to just pre-set something like 5 years worth of schedules using the past MLB schedules and then have those cycle?

So the Franchise Season 2 schedule could be preset to be what the 2010 (for example) real MLB schedule was, Season 3 could be 2011, etc. etc.

That way we would be able to have variety of interleague games without the massive effort of getting all the dynamic scheduling logic right.

I'm sure this is the equivalent of someone telling NASA "why don't we just build a bigger rocket?" to build a manned mission to Mars, but the point is, this is a HUGE drawback to franchise mode currently and maybe it's time to take a different tack in order to achieve it.

Still no batters stats on the league updates screen, looks like there is a space to add the best hitter for each team. Would give such a better overview of the game if it had a few batters stats not just the winning, losing and saving pitchers.

Quite a few negative Nelleys posting. I get it, the Franchise players are a die-hard bunch. Most of you, like me, have been on the OS forums for a long time. You want to see some bigger leaps forward on the mode you covet. But keep in mind, for every one of you that wants interleague schedule stuff or some of the other items being brought up, there are 3 or 4 guys like me that don't really care. I enjoy the game for what it is, and not because the correct shade of turquoise is on some 8 year old alternate home jersey. To me, if the schedule is 162 games, and I have a few jerseys to pick from, I'm good. I just want great gameplay. Before you focus on what you didn't get too much, consider the following:

The graphics look incredible. I have to think the stream was on a ps4 pro. Looks amazing. I didn't realize that player faces could improve the game that much, but the game does look a lot better. Grass too. Stadiums have looked good for a while, just need more camera options to show them off. :-)

The ball physics got a MAJOR improvement. This alone is worth a day one purchase IMO.

For guys with responsibilities or an intrusive home life, the ability to have different options to get more games/seasons completed (critical moments and quick mng) is a welcomed addition. I'm surprised more people aren't really happy with these. I'll likely be able to get through a couple of seasons and still feel like I got to have input throughout the year on games I didn't play every inning.

Cleaned up menus. I am really liking what they did this year. They also fixed some stat stuff.

Quirks. This seems like it's a small addition, but I like the under the hood aspect. Only mild buffs and penalties so that it doesn't take over the game in a negative way. I like it.

This is exactly where I was mentally last year to a tee. I've brought the show every year since 2009. I also am a franchise & RTTS only guy. But something strange happened last year. As usual, franchise & RTTS have issues on day 1 and I don't really mess with them until the patch comes out usually a month after release. I've always done my own custom roster so that is how I've always passed the time until the patch. Well, SDS made DD a single player mode so I said what the heck, I'll go all in since its going to be a month anyway. Well this is my universal profile as of right now. I tried BR and it reminded me why I hate online play. But the single player mode DD to me is a giant scavenger hunt version of Play Now. The card aspect brought me back to days of ripping open a shopping bag full packs at the kitchen table as a youth. Not saying you will have the same experience I did, but go all like I did until OSFM comes out. you may end up liking it.

Well franchise week was pretty much a huge disappointment. The gameplay and graphics upgrades to the game are still great and all but I was hoping for more then basically just critical situations. Kind of shocked by the such small amount of improvement made to franchise this year, expected more from them then this. Franchise is basically the same as last year just with different looking menu's except for player quirks ,critical situations and quick manage which not everyone will even use. Critical situations is neat and all and is definitely nice and useful for some people but as the main improvement to the mode? Disappointing to see that's the main improvement.

Still buying and excited for the game of course but having almost nothing added to franchise this year is definitely a bummer. Hopefully this means Franchise gets to be the main focus next year.

I definitely understand, and I know I'm going to have a blast with 17. I've played probably 200 games on 16 and am 7 years into my franchise and still enjoying it. It's more that the game is getting to a point where it's not different enough year to year with what I want to make it worth buying new.
