Madden NFL 17 News Post

Madden NFL 17 title update #10 is available now for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Check out the patch notes below.

UPDATE: Clint and Rex gave more details about the patch in their Twitch stream, watch the archive here.

Gameplay
  • Removed the ability to flick the R-Stick to pump fake when the player is outside of the pocket. Right Stick will now always throw ball away in these situations.
  • Fixed a legacy issue where defensive linemen would be called for encroachment when offense was using no huddle.
  • Addressed an issue where receivers would have the ball bounce off their arms when attempting RAC catches leading to drops or tip picks.
  • Fixed issue where QB’s could not match tackles after throwing an interception.
  • Fixed an issue where the user drop down banner was precluding player stat drop downs
  • Removed user drop down banners for user catch, finesse and power moves due to high frequency being distracting.
  • Fixed a bug where a safety banner would fire every time a pass was intercepted in the end zone.
  • Fixed a grieving tactic where offense could trigger infinite offsides penalties to extend the game.
  • Made some zone coverage adjustments to improve an issue where C Routes were overpowered when run on the wide side of the field with a TE on the line of scrimmage.
  • Increased frequency of broken tackles that can trigger from hit sticks. This will add more risk to going for hit stick tackles.
  • Fixed CPU punters kicking high into the wind, causing short punts.
  • Fixed a short delay that could rarely occur when attempting to snap the ball.
  • Fixed a variety of ‘players freezing’ issues when coming out of blocking interactions.
  • Tuned up fumble chances on ‘precision dive over top’ and increased the Tier requirements to perform the elite version of this mechanic.
  • Fixed an issue where free offensive linemen would not react to a nearby defender who just beat a block.
  • A variety of pass block targeting issues resolved.
  • Fixed several encroachment bugs that would result from aligning and sliding the defense in pre-play.
  • Addressed a rare issue where defenders could get into a state where they could not be blocked.
  • Fixed an issue where turning the pass accuracy slider to 0 would have very little impact in game.
  • Fixed a turbo blitz off the edge that was specific to players in a 4 point stance.
  • Addressed an issue where a DB in press coverage would not be able to defend a player locked user WR hot routed to a smoke screen
Stability
  • Tuned a variety of issues related to community feedback that lower rated offensive line was too effective against an elite defensive line. This change will also make elite OL more effective against lower rated D-line.
  • Addressed feedback that various online modes played at different game speeds. All online game speeds now consolidated to run at normal game speed.
  • Addressed an issue where a user in an online game could disconnect/concede and result in a crash for the opponent.
  • Addressed an issue where a timeout call on the pause menu could lead to camera settings being switched. This was also used as a grieving tactic to reset opponents camera.
  • Fixed an issue where user settings would be reset to defaults in a play a friend game. This includes the auto flip setting defaulting to on.
Franchise
  • Fixed CFM issue where user would receive an Invite Error Popup when trying to invite another user to a Franchise game.

Hands down the best playing Madden ever, after the latest patch.

Match ups along the line actually matter, QB accuracy has been properly adjusted, and the run game is back to being realistic. Rush yardage is hard earned as it should be in the NFL. Very refreshing to watch and play.

There is still room for improvement, however....

Should they be able to make some needed adjustments to line interaction, human and CPU kicking accuracy, injury system, CPU draft logic, CPU QB pocket presence, additional statistical tracking improvements and game play/roster management AI for M18, they just may finally join the ranks of the other elite sporting video franchises.

It was a long time coming, but better late than never. The patch has breathed new life into what was some very stale CFM game play.

Kudos for a job well done.

Edit: I would be thrilled if the one step forward, three steps back disease that has plagued the development process over the years can finally be pronounced DOA. Here's hoping frostbite doesn't reignite the symptoms anew.

I'm not sure what some are seeing. All modes are playing the best ever to me.

Players are now having to run base defenses if they want to stop the run. When guys try to stop the run with dime they are getting gashed.

MUT SC players are being forced to invest in the OL now.

The game is more sim in all modes

Really guys, it WILL HAVE to come down to Madden doing what 2K did and having three pre set game settings. SIM, Normal, And Tourney settings. HAS to happen for the exact reasons I am reading in this thread. People like me are extremely happy and want a sim experience and I am getting it-ish. Others are complaining and thats fine. My only complaint is I wish the CPU would mentally challenge me a whole lot more in playing me. If I run cover 3 cloud all game and make the same adjustments all game Luck and Pagano should kill me with something else. Just my opinion. I have only played one franchise game since patch...Ezekial Ansah had a TON of sacks vs indy...their line cant be THAT bad. LOL 35-10 was that score. It was extremly exciting until the 3rd quarter. I sent Darius Slay on a CB blitz Luck never saw and he strip sacked Luck and NGATA ran it back on a scoop and score. It was a frustrating game stopping Luck until that point. Maybe the game takes into account momentum swings ALA NCAA? I had a blast with it and this is the Madden I have wanted. I would like O/D coordinators to be a thing in this game and the ability to run a CFM and start as one. That would be fun and immersive. But I wont turn this into a wish list post. My main point was the three settings have to happen and until it does we are gonna be in for this disappointing ride.

I hope and pray this latest patch sets the template for next years release, sure there is a few things that can get better but the game play is almost darn near perfect for sim players. If 18 plays like this out of the box I will thrilled....I cant stop playing it, and its been a very long time coming. Props to EA for listening to us and making the game enjoyable again for sim players.

I've only played 2 games, but this patch is awesome. Offline CFM, all pro with A&S sliders. A few notes:

• Running game feels improved. I didn't see holes closing unrealistically, and lineman held blocks long enough to hit them.

• I've had my first games with under 70% completion by me. I threw 64% the first game, and 62% the next. Passing feels great, and it feels like it finally matters to use timing.

• I did see 2 punts by the cpu travel 19 yards...it was only 2, but it brought back bad memories.

• The cpu QB actually goes through progressions now and doesn't just throw it away as soon as you get through the line. I saw only 1 throwaway by the cpu in 2 games, and it was very natural with a LB bearing down on him. This 1 throwaway was from the pocket, however. But after seeing 6 or 7 of these per game by the cpu, I will happily take this!

Here come the playoffs, year 5!

Does anybody have a fix for the tackle where the defender just lowers his shoulder and the offensive player goes flying backwards?

I don't see this at all. Sounds like you need to lower your tackle slider substantially and adjust run block as necessary.

Do this and the WWE style tackles will disappear and you will see a differentiation in tackle ability commensurate with the player ratings.

It isn't ratings. It's the LT engaged with an invisible DL. Look closely at his animation. He's clearly blocking a ghost! I've had this happen twice already and for some reason the OL is stuck into a pass block animation sequence all by himself.

The LT almost looks like one of those stupid mime clowns at the end.

Ghostblocking?

Clint and Rex have mentioned their interest in separating the MUT/DC people from the sim people for the past 3 months on Twitter.

As other have said, this new patch is excellent. What really stands out to me is the fact that a larger RB (ex D. Johnson) shed tackles at a realistic rate. I disliked how they would always get flattened by a smaller CB.

Hopefully, this is a template for 18. Great job and support EA!!

I can't recall a Madden patch thread with so much positively. Thanks everybody for your input you've convinced me to try the game again. Gonna be firing it up this week as soon as I can! My biggest issue was the pass accuracy but I hear that's been fixed so I'm stoked to start up a new franchise. Those of you praising the new passing post patch, what slider number are you guys using for qb accuracy?

our online league has it at 25 , and i see some bad throws here and there.More so by bad qbs, but i have Teddy Bridgewater at 90 short, 90 mid,82 deep, he misses some throws by a few yards at times, especially if i lead " too much" or hold lead stick to long i feel like he throws it out wild sometimes.

YMMV, but there isn't a reason to stray too far off default settings on all-pro for me. There area other slider makers that have the QB ACC between 20-25, just depends on individual taste.

Is it just me or does the ball carrier running out of bounds prematurely seem worse?

I messed with this slider in this range in a few games of my SF CFM, and frankly, I didn't see significant enough differences to warrant further tinkering.

HUM and CPU completion percentages were very close to my normal ranges, even with a 25-30 points ACC slider decrease, which should not be the case.

Where it looks like this slider makes it tougher is on off-balance throws and throws under pressure. Those look like they sail more frequently. But it does not look like they tuned regular SAC/MAC/DAC as much as I or other OSers might like. Perhaps at even lower ranges, say in the 0-15 range, this slider becomes more effective... My concern is that more highly erratic balls will lead to more INTS, necessitating a tweak to the INT slider.

I think you could get away with lowering it on the user side to 0-15, but I found in past Maddens if you do the same with the CPU, the CPU tends to dink and dunk more, increasing completion %.

I only got 2 games in with the patch. After playing ootb, which did play amazing, this is an upgrade. The game feels more polished. I only had 2 games, but I've been playing Madden for a couple of decades now, and can tell this is a step in the right direction for this year and for 18. Plus after reading many posts I went in knowing what to look for. Mostly very good things. And it's there. Ratings matter, QB acc, and line play. Great job EA.

I'm assuming this glitch was created by the patch, I never had it before. I'm also assuming this glitch is permanent since its February and 1.10 patch will likely will be the last.

So... is there ANYTHING that can be done about it? Upping pass block didn't help.

Man, they REALLY need to come up with a better QA process at EA. Good gosh, it took a month to put out a patch that addresses O-line play, only to glitch O-line play?

Anyone here know a way to fix the ghost blocking by LT's? Does in-installing the patch do it? Back to OOTB again?
If they are looking into it, maybe there will be an update??

Game feels amazing after the patch, good job EA !

The game does feel very good sans the incredibly slow kicking meter in the patched version. The game feels better on All-Pro than All-Madden. However, the AI doesn't seem to have any will or desire to score on All-Pro. Are you guys noticing a lack of AI offense on All-Pro?
