MLB The Show 16 News Post

MLB The Show 16 patch 1.04 is available now, weighing in at 237 MB, check out the details below and let us know what you are seeing!

UPDATE: The developers are aware of the issues users are reporting. Users are currently reporting the dreaded "Challenge Failed" error, pitch speeds not displaying correctly, and other various online problems.

UPDATE #2: We rolled out some server changes to address the challenge failed messages. Is anyone still getting them?

We will update this post when we get more details.

OFFLINE GAME-PLAY:
  • Dynamic Difficulty is now working as intended while batting.
  • The ball trail option will now correctly correspond in-game if set to off, or fade.
  • Several adjustments were made to the auto base running mechanics during offline game-play.
  • Fixed an issue within RTTS while pitching with certain Perks equipped would result in a crash.
  • Corrected the order in which the "Preloading a Throw” and “Double Play” tutorial appear.
  • Following a Year to Year file upload in Road To The Show, the player card stats would display incorrect team and player info. This should now be corrected.
  • Tweaks and adjustments were made to AI behavior and animations that should streamline game-play performance. Areas of adjustment include: Fielders tagging moving base runners, Routes to catch balls, running catch animations, Fielders correctly covering bases on complex double play situations, etc…
  • Within Franchise mode, some generated or additional players were listed as born in “Alaska” instead of their correct place of origin. This should now be corrected and no longer happen.
  • Adjustments made to both online and offline pitcher/reliever energy levels.
  • New scanned heads added to update user’s experience following a year to year file upload.
  • Fixed numerous hangs, crashes, soft locks, etc., reported by the community through the bug reporting tool.
  • Sponsors should now give rewards.
ONLINE GAME-PLAY:
  • Fixed a bug that could cause a loss for users who requested a friendly quit at certain times.
  • Resolved a number of freezing, soft locks, instability and crashes during online play.
  • Fixed an issue where a pitch could occasionally change path on its’ way to the plate, shifting from inside the zone to outside the zone within a frame.
  • Addressed an issue under certain circumstances a pitcher would automatically pitch when the batter came out of Batter's Eye Cam.
  • Changes were made to the Batters Eye Cam: How long it can be used, how many times it can be accessed per at bat, etc… This should limit exploits, but keep the feature usable for its’ intended purpose.
  • We’ve shortened the total amount of pause time from 6 minutes to 5 minutes during an online game.
  • The pitchers pitch type interface will now be hidden if the batter is using Guess Pitch or Pitch History (L2 Button). This should help the user who is pitching understand when they can and cannot start the pitching motion.
  • Fixed a bug where the user was not being awarded the “Free Swings” trophy in an Online Home Run Derby if specific operations were being performed.
AUDIO
  • Resolved issues where in game intro/walk-up music would not play properly.
  • Tuned commentary triggers to be more accurate in one-sided games.
  • Reduced the amount of repetitive audio clips for specific players.
  • Fixed an issue where player yells were being disabled through the controller within Road To The Show. An occasional sound burst could also occur during game-play.
  • Various other general bug fixes.

I simmed another single team season.
I still think LuisSCEA did something in regards to RP's in the rotation.

So far...I've only seen RP's in the rotation if a SP has a non-DL injury(a DtD injury).
I wonder if that's where those RP starts are coming from and perhaps some of those RP starts are also game time coaching decisions.

For the most part I've been seeing that a SP that lands on the DL gets a SP from the minors called up to replace him.
In the past...it would almost ALWAYS be that RP.

I've been simming one week....checking the DL...and then checking the rotations....rather than looking at the season totals.

Still a lot more to look at on this.

My sims were single-team, just so that info's out there.

I think you may be right, but I believe that was pre patch as well. When I would Sim and look at rp in starting rotation the sp would be injured but not on dl.

I think part of the logic that still needs to be adjusted is it should be the pitcher with the most stamina pitching, yet is seems to be setup guys.

In my 3 (single team control btw)

Justin Wilson ---Set up man
Antonio Bastardo --- Set up man
Hansel Robles --- Long Relief Pitcher

I think you're right about it being DtD injuries and them starting the set up man vs the long relief pitcher. Another issue is that all teams have a long relief pitcher but some are guys that have very low stamina.

If SCEA could code it so that DtD injury for cpu controlled team equals them going to whomever is slotted in LRP role, that would do wonders for this issue, since most teams have a long reliever that is very capable of being a 6th/spot starter.

Or they could fill the teams full of SPs like in my carryover

Still don't know what that's about, but it seems to have changed since coming over to MLB16...or something.

In that franchise, only 1 "reliever only" type guy has starts (Josh Collmenter). D-Backs like wearing him out for some reason). Well two, but the other was me screwing up player lock and it made the reliever I wanted to lock as into the starter.

The other two guys are 80+ stamina relievers. One has 89 STA and the other 84 STA (not sure how they got labeled relievers...).

I checked the teams and literally all of them have a SP in LRP. Perhaps a product of 1.04 or maybe just MLB16 reacting to the 10-out-of-12 spots being filled by SP...

Ever since I downloaded the patch, in RTTS the top of my player's hair sticks out of his helmet. The helmet is pushed way down on his head. Also his sunglasses are rest too low, literally hanging on his earlobes? So odd.

Edit: So I noticed before the patch there was an option for hat under helmet. I had it set to yes. Now the option no longer exists. Could that be why this is happening now? This glitch did not exist before and annoys the living hell out of me...

Sorry for not reading through this very long thread but since the patch I have been getting dugout yells only through the controller audio output. Is this a common issue?

Not seeing the setup guy in my franchise. Had Wacha get injured, but only out a few days, and the CPU put Lance Lynn into the rotation in his spot, which I would expect to happen (or Lyons, but either is a viable option imo).

Could we be seeing the set up man over the long reliever because the LR pitcher's stamina is low due to pitching in prior game?

I am going to back track boxscores and see if this is the case when I get home tonight.

Doubt that. When Wacha got hurt (2/3 of an inning pitched) I brought in Lynn who finished out the inning and pitched into the 7th. So, his energy was pretty low when the CPU threw him into the rotation slated to start 5 days later.

Is the lack of trade delay option bothering you at all? Curious because when I start playing I feel like it's going to bug the hell out of me... Main reason I do 30 team control...

# 352 CarolinaBlue02 @ 05/06/16 12:09 PM
I hadn't noticed any negative things with this patch...until last night. The computer hit a ball in the gap and the base runner was Matt Kemp, and he just kept running. I was able to throw him out at 3rd and even then he was trying to round 3b. It was very weird. What made it worse was the fact that I was up by only 1 run in the 8th inning. So instead of a guy on 2nd with 2 outs, he makes the last out trying to go for an inside the park HR.

Also, the lefty/lefty righty/righty matchup has been poor again. Too many times the CPU brings in the wrong matchups. But overall, the bugs have been few and far between and must say this is the best version of The Show by a wide margin.

I actually don't use it anyways. When using 30 team control if there is a trade that really bothers me I just trade the players back.

I rarely ever reverse a trade.

Classic base running is definitely broken, as others have said before me

I tried the "change the setting and then change it back" thing, but for me, at least, it didn't work. Still broken

just lost a game due to the baserunning being messed up, tried pressing L1 and runners stayed on their base

Also......you have to check the FA signings(transactions) page often.
That Holland signing was there in April on the page....and May/June...then it was wiped from the books for some reason!

Correct. Free agent signings happen during the season this year for the first time, and have worked since the day 1 patch.

Also, yes, transactions eventually get bumped from the history, so check each month if you're doing any sort of tracking.

--------

Back to the topic at hand.

One thing I noticed post patch was that the AI seems to be matching up pitchers better than they had previously. In my game vs the Rockies, they brought in a left hander, after the righty gave up a double to Rios, to face Carpenter and Hazelbaker, walked Holliday and pitched to Moss. He got all 3 outs facing lefties.

Could just be a coincidence but I have never seen this before in the game.
That's encouraging to hear.

Does anybody know why I can't play my friends. I can play DD online just fine against random opponents, but when I tried to play my friend, it keeps saying challenge failed. It is not NAT Type because both of us are 2. Any help? Thanks.

Base Running is for sure messed up. Hope it gets fixed soon

Saw that they updated some heads and got excited hoping Maikel Franco was one of them. Sadly no love for Phillies fans.
