MLB The Show 16 News Post

MLB The Show 16 patch 1.04 is available now, weighing in at 237 MB, check out the details below and let us know what you are seeing!

UPDATE: The developers are aware of the issues users are reporting. Users are currently reporting the dreaded "Challenge Failed" error, pitch speeds not displaying correctly, and other various online problems.

UPDATE #2: We rolled out some server changes to address the challenge failed messages. Is anyone still getting them?

We will update this post when we get more details.

OFFLINE GAME-PLAY:
  • Dynamic Difficulty is now working as intended while batting.
  • The ball trail option will now correctly correspond in-game if set to off, or fade.
  • Several adjustments were made to the auto base running mechanics during offline game-play.
  • Fixed an issue within RTTS while pitching with certain Perks equipped would result in a crash.
  • Corrected the order in which the "Preloading a Throw” and “Double Play” tutorial appear.
  • Following a Year to Year file upload in Road To The Show, the player card stats would display incorrect team and player info. This should now be corrected.
  • Tweaks and adjustments were made to AI behavior and animations that should streamline game-play performance. Areas of adjustment include: Fielders tagging moving base runners, Routes to catch balls, running catch animations, Fielders correctly covering bases on complex double play situations, etc…
  • Within Franchise mode, some generated or additional players were listed as born in “Alaska” instead of their correct place of origin. This should now be corrected and no longer happen.
  • Adjustments made to both online and offline pitcher/reliever energy levels.
  • New scanned heads added to update user’s experience following a year to year file upload.
  • Fixed numerous hangs, crashes, soft locks, etc., reported by the community through the bug reporting tool.
  • Sponsors should now give rewards.
ONLINE GAME-PLAY:
  • Fixed a bug that could cause a loss for users who requested a friendly quit at certain times.
  • Resolved a number of freezing, soft locks, instability and crashes during online play.
  • Fixed an issue where a pitch could occasionally change path on its’ way to the plate, shifting from inside the zone to outside the zone within a frame.
  • Addressed an issue under certain circumstances a pitcher would automatically pitch when the batter came out of Batter's Eye Cam.
  • Changes were made to the Batters Eye Cam: How long it can be used, how many times it can be accessed per at bat, etc… This should limit exploits, but keep the feature usable for its’ intended purpose.
  • We’ve shortened the total amount of pause time from 6 minutes to 5 minutes during an online game.
  • The pitchers pitch type interface will now be hidden if the batter is using Guess Pitch or Pitch History (L2 Button). This should help the user who is pitching understand when they can and cannot start the pitching motion.
  • Fixed a bug where the user was not being awarded the “Free Swings” trophy in an Online Home Run Derby if specific operations were being performed.
AUDIO
  • Resolved issues where in game intro/walk-up music would not play properly.
  • Tuned commentary triggers to be more accurate in one-sided games.
  • Reduced the amount of repetitive audio clips for specific players.
  • Fixed an issue where player yells were being disabled through the controller within Road To The Show. An occasional sound burst could also occur during game-play.
  • Various other general bug fixes.

Offline though.....the game is playing amazingly for me. Best Show ever despite some minor gripes about OSD decisions (batter walk up stats cough cough lol)

What is OSD walk up issue?

Just curious.
At this point, I'm not counting on it being fixed. I'm just hopeful it doesn't find its way into next year's game, like other bugs/mistakes in the past..

Why don't you write a productive post that actually lists everything you say it "broke" as opposed to fixed instead of garbage posts like this that add absolutely nothing.....nothing to the forum and does not help the developers improve the game in a future patch.

Getting really sick of this hyperbole 10 year old cry baby crap. It's so easy to just post the game is broken. So trendy in fact. It is the new trend...post to a message board how the game is "broken".

Far from it......so far from the truth. So again list to me everything it broke more than it fixed. Maybe you can be a game developer and tell them everything it "broke" more than it fixed.

I am waiting to read it. Because here is what it fixed. And this is fact. Play the game and find out.

Hey Armour - Any idea what they did to adjust the pitcher energy levels? If I had to guess I'd say that they weren't going down quite as fast as they should, but that's not a strong opinion on my part.

Noticed it fixed a bug that was annoying me. If you gave a player a branded compression sleeve like Nike, it would turn the other arm's wrist tape white no matter what. I attached an image to the bug report so maybe that helped them get it done.

I agree with A&S 100 %.. We play Offline and Franchise only. I have seen great improvements; I think this is the best, smoothest addition of the show to be produced yet. I love this game. Yes, I know there are still issues but the Dev's are listening and trying to do their best. In Offline, The auto base running has been improved 100%. Since the patch, I have played many games and I have only had a few issues but far from being game killers. In check swing, the base umpires never call a strike. In my last game, my 2b made a diving catch, and then a message came across the board that he was seriously hurt and showed him being escorted off the field stating he was going for x-rays and would be out for a lengthily time. But at the end of the game.. He was not hurt. Finally, I like to play with pitch confidence turned OFF. I have it off in the main settings and in franchise. It starts out with it off, but for some reason it keeps turning itself back on. I don't play any other mode than franchise, so I can't speak for others that might have serious issues online or different modes. But if you are a franchise player, I can't see any reason why you wouldn't love this game. There are some things I don’t quite understand, like why Michael Brantley has happy faces all the way down his moral except for his contract, which he is making 12 million, yet over all, he is very angry. I guess if I had my wish, If they could patch the vs. Left and vs. Right batting stats and add or fix the minor league stats, it would be as close to perfect as it could get.

How is this version smoother than last year's version? Just curious to know....

I have a very good idea.

When I see Ichiro's BIG vsL wedge and a vsR wedge that's like half the size....I think it's safe to say you can tell which one he's better at.

Same for Trumbo vsL and vsR. Or Harper in my carryover...you couldn't tell the difference between a wedge that represents 90s (his vsR ratings) and 50s (his vsL ratings)?

I can tell the difference between Buxton's 80-rated wedge in reaction and a 60 rated one of Sano.

Is it hard to tell the difference between 78 and 83? Probably. Can you tell a difference on the field? Probably not. For significant differences on the field, you can tell with the wedges.

I don't even has a great, uber, 4K or whatever TV.

It's called taking chances and trying to come up with new ideas. Whether or not it's "totally useless" is up to your opinion. Not changing things or trying new ideas also opens you up to criticism.

Fielding animations are the best they have ever been. Ton's and ton's of more organic and realistic looking plays in the field. Routes to the ball are far more realistic in the OF. Ball physics are better than they have ever been, hit variety is off the hook this year with balls rolling all the way down the lines, bouncing into the corners. Playing balls off the wall is far more realistic this year due to the ever improving ball physics. The lighting is insane. The hitting feels so much better this year. CPU hitters chase out of the zone. Setting up hitters feels real now. Base running....yes base running as far as steal success ratios, the cat and mouse game between pitchers and real legit threats to steal bags is a game within a game this year.

Listen I could go on and on. But MLB 14 and 15 feel dated to me when I play MLB 16. I could never go back. The game plays like butter offline.

If you don't think so....then continue playing MLB 15. It's a great game too. And it is fully patched already.

This last patch smoothed out some choppy animations at the plate (check swings which were God awful pre-patch) and I am sure another patch down the pike will get everything tuned to a tee much like last years patches tuned up MLB 15.

Play by play and commentary is vastly improved from MLB 15. Quite frankly MLB 15's commentary and play by play was abysmal. I could not take it anymore after just a few months. Choppy, disjointed, repetitive more than it ever was...just plain piss poor. This year has a ton of freshness to it, much more emotion, stories, dynamic references during franchise. Player emotions are showing a lot better after big hit's, strikeouts, defensive plays etc. HR calls are vastly improved. Just so much better.

Man this game is freaking awesome. But way too many people here focus on one or two things for 50 pages and refuse to play the game. Sorry if you don't use default base running, sorry if all you play is online. And believe me I want online to work properly as I love Diamond Dynasty and Conquest. I am sure it will get worked out. It's been what...5-6 weeks since release? And yeah the game should ship in better shape....I get all that. I am sure they will fix the issues.

They are not perfect. This game is not perfect. But the way people attack and post is out of hand and a down right embarrassment.
The game is highly playable for all offline modes. In fact in it's current state despite some things that still need to get worked out (I am not going to apologize for things not working properly like classic base running after the most recent patch) the game blows away last years version by a comfortable margin.

Things need to be repaired. No question. The point is....pretty much anyone I speak with in the community agrees the game is awesome....in spite of the state it shipped in and we are all enjoying it while we await the forth coming fixes.

It's become a cess-pool of piss poor posting. I have remained silent....but I can't anymore. I believe that issues can be discussed in a far more mature and civil manner. I am not blind to the bugs in the game. I was uploading bug reports too, up voting issues I have seen.

That's being productive and working with the team instead of spewing venom like a cry baby. I mean Jesus people. Back away from the ledge....go play another game....do something other than bark hatred at guys who love their job and give us a hell of a baseball game year in year out. This game screams passion for baseball. It's a joy to play.

I don't think it's in the patch notes specifically.

But in limited, but in situations where it was readily apparent previously....the RP in the rotation(when a SP injury occurred).....seems to be addressed!

Super pumped about that as it was my last remaining reason for using 30 team control!!!

Is that confirmed (I mean, not officially or anything, but just through you checking)? I know someone mentioned that may be the case in the franchise thread, but he wasn't sure and I haven't had time to check myself. Awesome if it is, as that's another scratched off my list as well.

That's awesome news.

No one from the Dev team has spoken about why they pulled the "trade warning" from Franchise, have they? Or if it might go back in? I'd sorta planned on playing 30-team control in the vague hope it'd go back in.

I just had a little time last night at work....

Started a new franchise....manually injured 1-2 SP on just about every team and no RP's replaced them.
Of course....I want to test it further, but in the past....I would usually get the best RP in most cases.

I'm REALLY hoping this is the case over an entire season.
Going to test this right now.

I will say that if you are below default on pitch speeds, the steal success rates can be there.

I was using 10/10...and they weren't there. At all. Nomo's also tested that.

You use 3/5 pitch speeds - so yeah, that will work to keep steal rates around MLB average as a whole.

I've capitulated and have raised timing to adjust as I actually do better with the faster pitch speeds.

I do still wish they would do something with the system so it's not tied to pitch speeds, which are supposed to be cosmetic/visual only. To your point with working with the team, Nomo's put a bug report and I've upvoted.

Do you mean the AI promoted a SP from AAA? Or hired on a free agent?

I think it was one of two(three) things....

Either the trade delay was screwing with trades being pulled(the problem last year) by CPU teams...hence the rather low trade numbers and they didn't have time to totally rewrite it and eliminating the delay was the best option for them(certainly not for us....I remember when I asked for this years ago and Kolbe and Aaron put it in....I was so pumped!)
or it didn't work with the trade slider correctly
or....it got lost in the shuffle with the new menus(I doubt this one)

I hope it gets re-instated.
I really liked not hearing from teams right away or seeing the deals and wondering if they were going to go through.
I actually with it was random...from instant to up to 7 days(maybe 5) and you had no idea if it was in the works still or not.

The AI called up SP's from the minors from what I saw.
I have to see if any FA's were signed to fill them.
A combo would be sweet...but I haven't seen FA's signings during the year.
