MLB The Show 16 News Post

MLB The Show 16 patch 1.04 is available now, weighing in at 237 MB, check out the details below and let us know what you are seeing!

UPDATE: The developers are aware of the issues users are reporting. Users are currently reporting the dreaded "Challenge Failed" error, pitch speeds not displaying correctly, and other various online problems.

UPDATE #2: We rolled out some server changes to address the challenge failed messages. Is anyone still getting them?

We will update this post when we get more details.

OFFLINE GAME-PLAY:
  • Dynamic Difficulty is now working as intended while batting.
  • The ball trail option will now correctly correspond in-game if set to off, or fade.
  • Several adjustments were made to the auto base running mechanics during offline game-play.
  • Fixed an issue within RTTS while pitching with certain Perks equipped would result in a crash.
  • Corrected the order in which the "Preloading a Throw” and “Double Play” tutorial appear.
  • Following a Year to Year file upload in Road To The Show, the player card stats would display incorrect team and player info. This should now be corrected.
  • Tweaks and adjustments were made to AI behavior and animations that should streamline game-play performance. Areas of adjustment include: Fielders tagging moving base runners, Routes to catch balls, running catch animations, Fielders correctly covering bases on complex double play situations, etc…
  • Within Franchise mode, some generated or additional players were listed as born in “Alaska” instead of their correct place of origin. This should now be corrected and no longer happen.
  • Adjustments made to both online and offline pitcher/reliever energy levels.
  • New scanned heads added to update user’s experience following a year to year file upload.
  • Fixed numerous hangs, crashes, soft locks, etc., reported by the community through the bug reporting tool.
  • Sponsors should now give rewards.
ONLINE GAME-PLAY:
  • Fixed a bug that could cause a loss for users who requested a friendly quit at certain times.
  • Resolved a number of freezing, soft locks, instability and crashes during online play.
  • Fixed an issue where a pitch could occasionally change path on its’ way to the plate, shifting from inside the zone to outside the zone within a frame.
  • Addressed an issue under certain circumstances a pitcher would automatically pitch when the batter came out of Batter's Eye Cam.
  • Changes were made to the Batters Eye Cam: How long it can be used, how many times it can be accessed per at bat, etc… This should limit exploits, but keep the feature usable for its’ intended purpose.
  • We’ve shortened the total amount of pause time from 6 minutes to 5 minutes during an online game.
  • The pitchers pitch type interface will now be hidden if the batter is using Guess Pitch or Pitch History (L2 Button). This should help the user who is pitching understand when they can and cannot start the pitching motion.
  • Fixed a bug where the user was not being awarded the “Free Swings” trophy in an Online Home Run Derby if specific operations were being performed.
AUDIO
  • Resolved issues where in game intro/walk-up music would not play properly.
  • Tuned commentary triggers to be more accurate in one-sided games.
  • Reduced the amount of repetitive audio clips for specific players.
  • Fixed an issue where player yells were being disabled through the controller within Road To The Show. An occasional sound burst could also occur during game-play.
  • Various other general bug fixes.

After 4 full games post patch 1.04 in franchise mode with my settings (check the slider thread for details):

Game plays like melted butter. The glitch/choppy check swing animation has virtually been eliminated. I only saw it once in 4 games and it was on a chased hard and away slider where I checked swung and it kind of was semi choppy but not nearly as bad as pre/patch. Before the patch It happened all the time. I check swing a lot and it was driving me insane. Now I can be happy.

OF routes were definitely tweaked for the better. They are looking even more organic and natural and not every thing is automatic. Guys make mis-reads and make errors where appropriate. Even saw one on a routine fly ball by Justin Upton and it was a welcomed shocker. It happens IRL. So it's nice to see on The Show it can happen as well once in a while with very good defensive players.

Offline, with a clean screen approach I am loving this game immensely. Best version of The Show ever. And seriously it has made the previous versions dinosaurs for me. I can't stress enough how great the hitting variety and ball physics are this year. It's like a new game IMO. The new running styles are fantastic. The face that steals are not automatic, bunts are not automatic.

So many little improvements. The patch for offline franchise gameplay has really smoothed out some things and tuned some things for the better. Much better.

One more patch to iron out some other stuff which has been talked about endlessly and we have an amazing game.

Very good patch for gameplay offline (for my style of play and game settings). I can't speak for other interfaces, settings etc. Only the way I approach the game.

That's in the Strategy Guide in "Other-Miscellaneous 3"

I might have to use Dynamic then whenever I get around to trying an RTTS.

Always hated the idea of the "level modifier". Never made sense to me.

Hey Armor,

Curious on how you play Offline Franchise mode. Do you use a created player with Player Lock and try to build that player up over the season? Or do you control the full team meaning from the pitcher and position players on defense to batting for all hitters on offense?

No player lock. I use the entire roster and hit and pitch. I also make all throws on defense (button throwing no meter all ratings based) but use auto fielding for ratings based defense. I play on Classic Pitching and Directional/Timed hitting with a totally clean screen. I do use the ball marker though to pitch. That is the only visual aid I employ. I also use default base running so I control my base runners. I do not use auto base running.

Hitting has vastly improved for me (using TNK & PsychoBulk 2016 Sliders, v3). I only have a sample size of 3 offline franchise games post-patch, but gameplay seems smooth and very realistic for me.

By "One more patch to iron out some other stuff which has been talked about endlessly", you mean the base running thing?
I haven't had a chance to play much since the patch, so the issue is real?

Some classic base running bugs that emerged apparently post patch. And online needs fixes again post patch.

Offline though.....the game is playing amazingly for me. Best Show ever despite some minor gripes about OSD decisions (batter walk up stats cough cough lol)

Agreed.

I don't play online or games like DD or conquest and this game is absolutely amazing. There are things like you that I wish were/weren't done, but my overall experience has been that this is easily the best of the series.

I wish they would roll this back and go back to how it was before. None of the "fixes" made by this patch were worth breaking what it did.

Exactly how I play.

That is exactly right. I play offline franchise only and have really enjoyed the game. It has had a few minor issues, the check swing issue which I have only had happen once since the .04 patch, a couple of bad numbers on the outfield wall at St. Louis and San Francisco but the gameplay has been very good. I am not a big fan of the small circle graphs but that is the direction that was taken this year. Still a great game offline.

BTW...has anyone noticed if the outfield walls with the incorrect distance has been fixed since the patch? The only one that I know of off the top of my head is Busch, and my Cardinals are on the road in my franchise.

Just curious.

Busch is still wrong. I don't think I've seen anything about stadium art fixes in the patch.

Would like to know if they fix that too, didn't sound like they would according to Ramone. AT&T has the wrong CF distance too. 382 instead of 399.

Well that is a bummer.

Oh well...at least its just an eyesore and doesn't effect gameplay in any way.

Shownation user claiming a 1.14 update was just released?

Not for me. Ran the "check for update" and nothing.

Had something go smooth already (now that PS3s are blessed with the update)...actually had a good, no mysterious double clutch, throw to cut down a run at the plate on a SF attempt.

I hope that's a trend that continues. That was probably the 2nd worst thing in the gameplay for me.

It is, indeed, much easier to see. Guarantee you this took more time than you think it did to implement, because they've talked numerous times in the past about how difficult it is to make interface changes via patch. It's not something that happens very often, but this was a nice change.
IMO it was a lot of time wasted that could have been used elsewhere for improving game play. There was nothing wrong with the 2 horizontal bars previously used and they were WAY easier to see. This did not improve the game even 1 iota. In fact, it hurt the game in my opinion. Same goes with the nice looking but totally useless radial graphic for attributes. You have no idea when trying to sub a fielder or pinch hitter to see if one is better unless you dig deeper into the interface. The ONLY yhing that makes sense here is NUMBERS.

Why introduce something that takes a lot of time, is totally useless or at least not as good as what came before, and that opens you up to criticism.
