MLB The Show 16 News Post

MLB The Show 16 patch 1.04 is available now, weighing in at 237 MB, check out the details below and let us know what you are seeing!

UPDATE: The developers are aware of the issues users are reporting. Users are currently reporting the dreaded "Challenge Failed" error, pitch speeds not displaying correctly, and other various online problems.

UPDATE #2: We rolled out some server changes to address the challenge failed messages. Is anyone still getting them?

We will update this post when we get more details.

OFFLINE GAME-PLAY:
  • Dynamic Difficulty is now working as intended while batting.
  • The ball trail option will now correctly correspond in-game if set to off, or fade.
  • Several adjustments were made to the auto base running mechanics during offline game-play.
  • Fixed an issue within RTTS while pitching with certain Perks equipped would result in a crash.
  • Corrected the order in which the "Preloading a Throw” and “Double Play” tutorial appear.
  • Following a Year to Year file upload in Road To The Show, the player card stats would display incorrect team and player info. This should now be corrected.
  • Tweaks and adjustments were made to AI behavior and animations that should streamline game-play performance. Areas of adjustment include: Fielders tagging moving base runners, Routes to catch balls, running catch animations, Fielders correctly covering bases on complex double play situations, etc…
  • Within Franchise mode, some generated or additional players were listed as born in “Alaska” instead of their correct place of origin. This should now be corrected and no longer happen.
  • Adjustments made to both online and offline pitcher/reliever energy levels.
  • New scanned heads added to update user’s experience following a year to year file upload.
  • Fixed numerous hangs, crashes, soft locks, etc., reported by the community through the bug reporting tool.
  • Sponsors should now give rewards.
ONLINE GAME-PLAY:
  • Fixed a bug that could cause a loss for users who requested a friendly quit at certain times.
  • Resolved a number of freezing, soft locks, instability and crashes during online play.
  • Fixed an issue where a pitch could occasionally change path on its’ way to the plate, shifting from inside the zone to outside the zone within a frame.
  • Addressed an issue under certain circumstances a pitcher would automatically pitch when the batter came out of Batter's Eye Cam.
  • Changes were made to the Batters Eye Cam: How long it can be used, how many times it can be accessed per at bat, etc… This should limit exploits, but keep the feature usable for its’ intended purpose.
  • We’ve shortened the total amount of pause time from 6 minutes to 5 minutes during an online game.
  • The pitchers pitch type interface will now be hidden if the batter is using Guess Pitch or Pitch History (L2 Button). This should help the user who is pitching understand when they can and cannot start the pitching motion.
  • Fixed a bug where the user was not being awarded the “Free Swings” trophy in an Online Home Run Derby if specific operations were being performed.
AUDIO
  • Resolved issues where in game intro/walk-up music would not play properly.
  • Tuned commentary triggers to be more accurate in one-sided games.
  • Reduced the amount of repetitive audio clips for specific players.
  • Fixed an issue where player yells were being disabled through the controller within Road To The Show. An occasional sound burst could also occur during game-play.
  • Various other general bug fixes.

I saw the Dodger's helmets on TV IRL for the first time and matte just didn't look right in blue. But yeah, I went into practice last night to learn how to use default Baserunning controls and the Giants had the new Matte helmets as well.

I play the PS3 version and hopped online to download the patch. Noting happened. Was this for PS3 too or just PS4? How do I get it to download?

For classic baserunning- is this now how it is supposed to be or was the change an accident?

Anything to do with the Dodgers never looks good to me.

I'm always glad to see a patch. I was hesitant to DL it after reading this thread. I did anyway and I guess I don't see much of anything that's being said. I'm a strictly offline player so maybe that's why. It's my favorite version of the Show so far.

Anyone who can make an "excellent" game, should not be embarassed by it IMO.
If the number of bugs were to make the game less than excellent, then I could see where embarassement was warranted.

Played a DD game earlier and lost as a result of my runners not advancing when I told them to.. sweet patch.

How about the incorrect "First Major League Home Run" that pops up so often for veteran players? Is it finally fixed?

Need a little help...I have held off playing any until the rosters were square. I am up to date with patches and only played on scrimmage game. I only play offline so what is so wrong that the game isn't playable? Feel like I need to go back to '15 based off the comments.
Thanks In Advance

Hope they add that fatigue display to all screens/modes. Much better look!

Auto base running seems a lot better. I was able to leadoff/steal without canceling. I was also able to take manual control mid play, which is exactly what I hoped for. Sucks to see ppl having issues with classic baserunning, but I thought I read somewhere that if you toggle it to default then change it back to classic it might work.

Overall, really happy with the patch, it seems like the server update fixed the majority of the issues people were upset with yesterday. And to be fair, when they QA I'm sure they are using a test server and not production, so these things happen. Glad they were able to get it addressed on the same day. Nice work.

As some people don't seem bothered or even notice a lot of the issues, ingnore all the comments and try it out yourself.

I played my first game post patch without any issues. In fact I saw some things that I hadn't seen prior:

* Season stats after the first AB
* Matte helmets for the Dodgers...(there are other teams with them as well)

This game easily best '15...very easily. Don't let the negative comments sway you. Play the game and see for yourself. If your experience is anything like mine, you'll never think about going back to playing '15.

Happens with every game. Those who are enjoying the game don't comment as much as those who don't simply because those who enjoy the game are busy playing it while those who don't enjoy the game are busy on the forums complaining about it.

yeah the precision input alone makes '16 worth the price of admission over its predecessor.

No. And not as much as you care to reply to a non-serious post... 1. There really isn't an easy way to bookmark posts. 2. I surely won't remember that post (or yours) in 6 months, let alone a year. 3. I was being facetious.

Looks like they fixed the issue with morale in franchise mode while connected to the servers. I fired up the game while still connected to the internet and morale was as it should be.

Saw this in the first game I tried playing post-patch -

But it needs context - this isn't as simple as "lol swing analysis is broken". One specific thing I did caused it, and after I took that one thing away I never saw it again for the rest of the game. That one thing was fast-forwarding my first few times in the field.

Swing analysis between innings works differently between innings than in years past because, instead of showing the last pitch from the previous half-inning, it will show the last pitch from the batting team's previous inning. So, the first pitch analysis you see in the top of the second will be the last pitch from the top of the first. In this case there WAS no last pitch from the O's (CPU) batting half-inning, so it used a placeholder 0 MPH.

As I said, this was the only time I saw that placeholder for the rest of the game, because I then played the rest of the game out in full. It didn't happen again. It also didn't happen when I tried to re-create this situation after restarting the game, so not only did it only occur in an unusual situation, it's not even a 100% occurrence there.

It seems fixed from what I've seen so far. I have pics before and after for the same player, I'll post when I log on.

Great post! That extended context is key. I tried to recreate the issue after hearing about it yesterday. Of course, I couldn't, but FF is about the only thing I didn't do. I assumed people were seeing it in regular gameplay, since all of the posts insinuated that. Or basically, "this happened to me after the patch!" with no explanation of what was going on leading up to the issue.
