MLB The Show 16 News Post

MLB The Show 16 patch 1.04 is available now, weighing in at 237 MB, check out the details below and let us know what you are seeing!

UPDATE: The developers are aware of the issues users are reporting. Users are currently reporting the dreaded "Challenge Failed" error, pitch speeds not displaying correctly, and other various online problems.

UPDATE #2: We rolled out some server changes to address the challenge failed messages. Is anyone still getting them?

We will update this post when we get more details.

OFFLINE GAME-PLAY:
  • Dynamic Difficulty is now working as intended while batting.
  • The ball trail option will now correctly correspond in-game if set to off, or fade.
  • Several adjustments were made to the auto base running mechanics during offline game-play.
  • Fixed an issue within RTTS while pitching with certain Perks equipped would result in a crash.
  • Corrected the order in which the "Preloading a Throw” and “Double Play” tutorial appear.
  • Following a Year to Year file upload in Road To The Show, the player card stats would display incorrect team and player info. This should now be corrected.
  • Tweaks and adjustments were made to AI behavior and animations that should streamline game-play performance. Areas of adjustment include: Fielders tagging moving base runners, Routes to catch balls, running catch animations, Fielders correctly covering bases on complex double play situations, etc…
  • Within Franchise mode, some generated or additional players were listed as born in “Alaska” instead of their correct place of origin. This should now be corrected and no longer happen.
  • Adjustments made to both online and offline pitcher/reliever energy levels.
  • New scanned heads added to update user’s experience following a year to year file upload.
  • Fixed numerous hangs, crashes, soft locks, etc., reported by the community through the bug reporting tool.
  • Sponsors should now give rewards.
ONLINE GAME-PLAY:
  • Fixed a bug that could cause a loss for users who requested a friendly quit at certain times.
  • Resolved a number of freezing, soft locks, instability and crashes during online play.
  • Fixed an issue where a pitch could occasionally change path on its’ way to the plate, shifting from inside the zone to outside the zone within a frame.
  • Addressed an issue under certain circumstances a pitcher would automatically pitch when the batter came out of Batter's Eye Cam.
  • Changes were made to the Batters Eye Cam: How long it can be used, how many times it can be accessed per at bat, etc… This should limit exploits, but keep the feature usable for its’ intended purpose.
  • We’ve shortened the total amount of pause time from 6 minutes to 5 minutes during an online game.
  • The pitchers pitch type interface will now be hidden if the batter is using Guess Pitch or Pitch History (L2 Button). This should help the user who is pitching understand when they can and cannot start the pitching motion.
  • Fixed a bug where the user was not being awarded the “Free Swings” trophy in an Online Home Run Derby if specific operations were being performed.
AUDIO
  • Resolved issues where in game intro/walk-up music would not play properly.
  • Tuned commentary triggers to be more accurate in one-sided games.
  • Reduced the amount of repetitive audio clips for specific players.
  • Fixed an issue where player yells were being disabled through the controller within Road To The Show. An occasional sound burst could also occur during game-play.
  • Various other general bug fixes.

This is an open forum. Anyone can respond to anyone that posts in it.

You've many times interjected yourself into a conversation that wasn't directed at you. This is no different than a good majority of your posts here.

A combo would be sweet...but I haven't seen FA's signings during the year.

Knight I think the reason why you aren't seeing that many signings during the year is because of the 90 man organization limit. In most rosters all the teams have the full 90 men in there organization.

The fact someone gets offended with someone answering with a very accurate and detailed post...

I do agree that this year is smoother than last years by a long shot. The animations are butter. Just everything in general is moving more fluidly.

That's an excellent point. I've seen a number of players cut who passed through waivers when a club needed to ado someone to a 40 man to promote them to the big club. Haven't yet seen any of those teams add a free agent to replace them.

Had a weird thing happen. I'm using auto base running and I bunted and the guy advancing from first just froze and was an automatic out at second

Does anyone else think the patch broke chalk degradation? Not seeing it anymore around the plate. There's some around 3B but not home plate or up and down the lines.

If you'll recall, this feature was broken by a patch in MLB 14 and it was not fixed until 15.

There is degradation

Good point.
I'll have to check that out.

For sure.

I just played a Postseason game to test out a couple of 1985 teams.
I simmed through the season...so not the Postseason mode.
Rain...and by the 7th inning, the lines were nearly completely gone.

That's always been the issue. If there are no free spots the CPU will never sign anyone. This is something I've always run into the past 4 years. If you follow weekly minor league or MLB transactions and release someone the CPU will claim or sign a player most of the time from tests I've run.

You use 3/5 pitch speeds - so yeah, that will work to keep steal rates around MLB average as a whole.

I've capitulated and have raised timing to adjust as I actually do better with the faster pitch speeds.

I do still wish they would do something with the system so it's not tied to pitch speeds, which are supposed to be cosmetic/visual only. To your point with working with the team, Nomo's put a bug report and I've upvoted.

I don't think pitch speed makes a difference with being able to steal bases. I play with pitch speed at 5/7 on HOF and both me and the CPU have a pretty good steal %. So I have to disagree with you that the pitch speed kills base stealing.

As good as this game is. I just can't even accept this being a Sports GOTY contender with all these bugs. How is the development of this game getting worst?

# 294 chanseyelverton @ 05/05/16 02:34 AM
It's amazing how people take for granted how good this game actually is. With that being said, I believe the patch makes it play even smoother offline. All I play is franchise. Default all star. Directional hitting. Meter pitching. I've saw more hit variety and more balls in the gap post patch. Outfielders with lower ratings don't get to near as much IMO. Game is playing great. Also I've never really noticed the frame rate issues other than in cut scenes and foul balls. Post patch these issues seemed toned down as well. Really enjoying this game. Thanks SCEA.
PS: We could be on the other system with virtually no baseball game this year. Best show I've played dating back to 06

Weird. I was in franchise mode in Wrigley and I wasn't seeing it in multiple games. I'll try another stadium/mode tomorrow.

It is still there but it's not close to being true to real life, around the better box anyway. Bottom of the 5th in the show probably looks like bottom of the 1st IRL.

Hopefully next year we'll see homeplate get dirty as well, after a slide at home you see the lines crossed but the plate perfectly clean. They can include an animation where the ump brushes homeplate.

Pretty sure they used to have one. Plate didn't get dirty but the ump brushed it now and then.

Went ahead and bit the bullet and downloaded this patch...

*touch wood* so far no issues whatsoever, though i am a purely offline player.

I think it is a Wrigley thing. I was playing a home game the other day wondering what happened to the chalk degradation. Then I went on a road trip and it started happening again.
