MLB The Show 16 News Post

MLB The Show 16 patch 1.04 is available now, weighing in at 237 MB, check out the details below and let us know what you are seeing!

UPDATE: The developers are aware of the issues users are reporting. Users are currently reporting the dreaded "Challenge Failed" error, pitch speeds not displaying correctly, and other various online problems.

UPDATE #2: We rolled out some server changes to address the challenge failed messages. Is anyone still getting them?

We will update this post when we get more details.

OFFLINE GAME-PLAY:
  • Dynamic Difficulty is now working as intended while batting.
  • The ball trail option will now correctly correspond in-game if set to off, or fade.
  • Several adjustments were made to the auto base running mechanics during offline game-play.
  • Fixed an issue within RTTS while pitching with certain Perks equipped would result in a crash.
  • Corrected the order in which the "Preloading a Throw” and “Double Play” tutorial appear.
  • Following a Year to Year file upload in Road To The Show, the player card stats would display incorrect team and player info. This should now be corrected.
  • Tweaks and adjustments were made to AI behavior and animations that should streamline game-play performance. Areas of adjustment include: Fielders tagging moving base runners, Routes to catch balls, running catch animations, Fielders correctly covering bases on complex double play situations, etc…
  • Within Franchise mode, some generated or additional players were listed as born in “Alaska” instead of their correct place of origin. This should now be corrected and no longer happen.
  • Adjustments made to both online and offline pitcher/reliever energy levels.
  • New scanned heads added to update user’s experience following a year to year file upload.
  • Fixed numerous hangs, crashes, soft locks, etc., reported by the community through the bug reporting tool.
  • Sponsors should now give rewards.
ONLINE GAME-PLAY:
  • Fixed a bug that could cause a loss for users who requested a friendly quit at certain times.
  • Resolved a number of freezing, soft locks, instability and crashes during online play.
  • Fixed an issue where a pitch could occasionally change path on its’ way to the plate, shifting from inside the zone to outside the zone within a frame.
  • Addressed an issue under certain circumstances a pitcher would automatically pitch when the batter came out of Batter's Eye Cam.
  • Changes were made to the Batters Eye Cam: How long it can be used, how many times it can be accessed per at bat, etc… This should limit exploits, but keep the feature usable for its’ intended purpose.
  • We’ve shortened the total amount of pause time from 6 minutes to 5 minutes during an online game.
  • The pitchers pitch type interface will now be hidden if the batter is using Guess Pitch or Pitch History (L2 Button). This should help the user who is pitching understand when they can and cannot start the pitching motion.
  • Fixed a bug where the user was not being awarded the “Free Swings” trophy in an Online Home Run Derby if specific operations were being performed.
AUDIO
  • Resolved issues where in game intro/walk-up music would not play properly.
  • Tuned commentary triggers to be more accurate in one-sided games.
  • Reduced the amount of repetitive audio clips for specific players.
  • Fixed an issue where player yells were being disabled through the controller within Road To The Show. An occasional sound burst could also occur during game-play.
  • Various other general bug fixes.

Did you happen to watch last nights Yankee game, the ump was calling at the Yankee logo But I do agree that in the game that particular high zone pitch is called more a strike than a ball.

Offline Franchise. Can anyone confirm that classic baserunning is broken with the patch? Any other reasons not to download it for offline players?

It has been confirmed in linked thread below, that CLASSIC baserunning is not functioning properly.

I don't use CLASSIC baserunning and for me the patch hasn't done anything to hamper my experience with the game OFFLINE.

Damn, I thought this issue was fixed in this latest patch. I haven't seen it post patch, but apprarently its still there.

I haven't seen that at all and last game I played CPU was hitting everything so they had a lot of chances where they could have done that.

Yeah I saw it quite often pre-patch. However post patch I hadn't seen it yet and was hoping it was fixed.

Me neither - runners seemed pretty tame. Sucks that it's been sighted again...

I will say this, reading through all the comments on the patch: This is still an amazing game. The sheer amount of content in terms of playing options is pretty incredible.

For example: I pretty much play MLB The Show as a career simulator, almost always playing a young pitcher in RTTS mode, entering the draft and just allowing the game to decide who picks me up and trying to see what kind of career my player has. It is basically a pretty amazing MLB Role Playing Game for me. I've had players who blew through the minors and ended up having Hall of Fame type careers, I've had some players who struggled in the minors and had pretty average careers, being traded, demoted, etc. I try to keep track of some of my teammates in the minors to see where they end up. This is my almost exclusive style of play and has been for the 3 different versions of MLB The Show I've played, and it gives me this experience in such a great way that that alone is worth my price of admission.

I'm not dismissing the dismay many here may have at various things being broken, just saying to keep it in perspective, what they are delivering is pretty unmatched.

I haven't had any problems with anything in this game this whole year really. I can't really recall noticing any bugs or anything, and i've played a lot online, way more than offline. Aside from the random hangup and disconnect online, i haven't had any problems. As mentioned by a few here, this game is definitely the best iteration of the Show, great improvements have been made this year. I recently starting playing offline (rtts), and haven't had any problems until this....

Maybe I'm not looking closely enough, but it's business as usual in my offline franchise.
My rtts player just freezes in a weird position after taking a pitch in an at bat, it's very off-putting.

Another bug i noticed in RTTS is even though i have my presentation set to broadcast, it repeatedly keeps skipping all presentations as if i had it set to quick play. This especially bothers me because i spent so much time on SOTS setting up my music to play and i can't even hear it because broadcast presentation isn't working properly

Is anyone else noticing that broadcast presentation is skipping presentations as if it were on quick play?

If you think it is as easy to look at 2 completely different players and remember the exact or even close size of their wedges then you my friend are just a fanboy.

I have been a member of this site since 2003 and have purchased every single iteration of The Show since then. I love this game obviously but when something does not make sense or makes it worse IMO, I will say so. The Radial Wheel and Energy Circle are 2 such things. They spent time and effort to fix something that was not broken and even went back in to fix the Energy Circle, thus more time.

I respect your opinion even though I very much disagree with you even thinking this is not an issue for a lot of people. The Show continues to improve in Graphics and Gameplay along with that come hiccups...I do understand. I am just trying to keep them from getting the hiccups unnecessarily...lol.
I prefer the radial graphs, i like that it gives a quick snapshot basically of a players skills, instead of having to scroll through the numbers in linear fashion. It's easy and quick to see a players strengths and weaknesses by looking at the graph, and makes moulding a team, and making decisions more efficient imo, especially when doing a battle royale draft.

I believe the initial feature request was mine. Yes, you can turn them off in the settings, so that it's the same as it was before.

There is some good info to be had from the Yells though , like steal alerts, throwing decisions, base coach instructions, as well as the number of outs or strikes. That way, you don't even have to look at the scorebug.

This is not a complaint, just wondering if anyone else is having more difficulty hitting since this patch? I'm late on everything now. Just wondering if it's me or if something was tweaked reference pitch speed or the timing window.

Hitting for me hasn't changed. It all, hitting, pitch speed, timing window, seem to be the same as it was pre patch.

So far...I've only seen RP's in the rotation if a SP has a non-DL injury(a DtD injury).
I wonder if that's where those RP starts are coming from and perhaps some of those RP starts are also game time coaching decisions.

For the most part I've been seeing that a SP that lands on the DL gets a SP from the minors called up to replace him.
In the past...it would almost ALWAYS be that RP.

I've been simming one week....checking the DL...and then checking the rotations....rather than looking at the season totals.

Still a lot more to look at on this.

I wanted to touch on this again. I use single team control.

The Pirates had Gerrit Cole get injured, but he was only out for 1-6 days. They used Ryan Vogelsong (long relief pitcher) in his place for his start.

So in my experience, this seems to be all over the board when it comes to replacing an injured starter who isn't placed on the DL.

# 376 Armor and Sword @ 05/09/16 12:50 PM
I don't find using the long reliever for a spot start odd at all. If Cole goes on the DL then I would hope to see another SP called up to either replace Cole or become the new long reliever in place of the one who now fills in the rotation during the starters DL stint.

I wasn't suggesting that this was wrong that the Pirates used Vogelsong. But as I posted earlier, I have seen middle relievers and set up men be used to spot start. I've also seen other long relievers be used.

Its hard to pin point what the cpu is thinking in an effort to let the devs know what we are seeing so that middle relievers and set up men never start a game.

This latest patch seems to have screwed up classic base running (buttons). Is anyone else seeing this? You cannot select the runner and then hit the directional pad to advance them, ex. 1 to 3rd.
