NBA 2K16 News Post

After watching the NBA 2K16 gameplay enhancements video, make sure you read the gameplay blog, written by Mike Wang, Gameplay Director for NBA 2K16.

Hey 2K fans! It’s time to talk gameplay! It’s been a whirlwind year for us and the game has seen a ton of improvements. In fact, it’s tough to even name an area of the oncourt experience that didn’t get upgraded in one way or another. We’ve been playing the game til our fingers bleed and loving every minute of it. There’s a lot to cover so let’s jump right in.

First off, I want to congratulate and thank the gameplay team. This is the hardest working group of guys in the industry with an insatiable drive to be the best. No one has ever said, “ehh… that’s good enough.” We’re our own biggest critics and it’s cool to work with a team of guys who constantly strive to outperform themselves and genuinely love the game of basketball.

Like I said, there’s a lot to cover, way too much to write about in just one blog, so I’m going to try and highlight some of the things we’re proudest of in NBA 2K16.

I loved all of this right here. Thank you Mike Wang

  • Speaking of onball defense, we’ve also added a new Dynamic Defense Assist feature. The harder you press the Intense-D trigger, the more assist we give you as an onball defender. I can’t overstate how much this feature improves the ability to play defense online. There’s also a slider, so you can tweak the strength yourself or turn it off.
  • Boxouts and rebounding have been re-designed from the ground up. The major difference you’ll feel is that you now have complete control over how your player moves and interacts during boxouts. It allows players to read and react on the fly and turns rebounding into a game of skill.
  • Blocking is another area that has gotten a lot of love. As a blocker, you can now choose to go up conservatively with verticality or more aggressively to try and make a bigger play on the ball. We’ve also implemented point IK, which allow blockers to track the ball in real time and react to different situations in a dynamic way. For me, swatting a shot into the stands is probably the most gratifying thing to do in NBA 2K16. The improved physics on blocks make these scenarios look great too.
  • Layup strips have been improved and are a much more reliable counter against guys going to the rim.
  • We’ve re-worked the offball collision system to allow you to deny with more physicality and chuck cutters away from the ball. It’s especially awesome to see guys trying to fight their man off while being grabbed to try and get open for those last second buzzer beaters.

I apparently lost my memory as well because I definitely don't remember it. I remember the MyLeague stuff from last year but that was it. After that I remember having to wait for the Czar vids regarding anything gameplay wise.

It went from "remember we used it get gameplay blogs?" to "we get these every year" in a span of a day...

"Also, just about every variable we have in our shot heuristics can now be re-tuned post-release without having to create and release a patch, ensuring that we’ll be able to fine tune the system based on community feedback so that everybody’s happy". Mike Wang

Almost brought tears to my eyes. Well written.
Would love to see and read the 20 page blog Mr. Wang

Sounds good. I see a few of my must haves in there, so we were heard somewhat. Can't wait.

Excited!! I actually bused it to a nearby video game store (VGP in Toronto) to pre-order it at around 11:00 am before the gameplay video released. Payed the entire total of $90.39. Though I've been hard on 2K since 2K12, it finally looks like they're heading in the right direction and taking gameplay very seriously.

I know ive tweeted a milli9n times about on ball defense. I mean its so satisfying to lock someone up and not be punished for it. I couldnt even tell yall how much it pained me to be locking somone up and at the very end, the on ball stops for some odd reason and they get away scott free. Infuriating is an understatement ....im looking forward to this improvement the most next to online leagues (where we play on ball defense all the time) so salute, i hope im happy after gettin some games in...defense makes ythe offense run so much smoother imo. Let the users do they thang and ball out i say, how we supposed to settle thangs...2K Mike Wang, Scott, and the rest of the crew again im lookin forward to this. Thanks gr8 write up.

It seems like they made it so hot and cold streaks less about acquiring stats and perhaps a little bit more random in that certain parts of a player game isn't working . That is how he explained it. Should be real nice if it feels natural and increases a chance of a lower level role player providing a spark.

So usually I wouldn't believe all of this BS because it's 2K, but this actually looked really good, players seemed to have minds of their own and the atmosphere is great.

Another banner 2k year is upon us. Reading masterpieces like these dev diaries is why 2k continues to earn day 1 purchases, while selling consoles and remaining in my console year round. Other games need not apply. Oh you think I'm playing?[emoji38]

Excited to hear more about how the rebounding and boxing out being a game of skill works

Just marketing baby.
I'd be happy if I could see everything with my eyes before buying the game so you can judge and give suggestions which can help developers to modify, fix or do whatever they need to do in order to release a nice game.
I can also say that I'm dirty rich but in real I have 3 euro in my bank account!
Those are just words that don't hype me so much.

Trust me..the 2k apologist/fanboy in me would've copped it if not for being consumed with college at that time lol. On a mission to find my dreamcast era 2k collection!

PS...this is why I can't get down with the digital purchase wave. #nostalgia

Mmmm, I still break out my College Hoops 2k8.

Load up a tourney with all-time great teams and go at it.

Or I play some games on my "coach" mode. Started at NC A&T, finally made it to UNC (damn retire already Roy) by way of Boston University, Air Force (1 championship; I had two 7 footers I rode all the way), Louisville (2 championships; after landing the #1 recruit in the nation from Compton, CA). Now working on an undefeated season with UNC.

Man I wish they could've kept that game going.
