NBA 2K16 News Post

After watching the NBA 2K16 gameplay enhancements video, make sure you read the gameplay blog, written by Mike Wang, Gameplay Director for NBA 2K16.

Hey 2K fans! It’s time to talk gameplay! It’s been a whirlwind year for us and the game has seen a ton of improvements. In fact, it’s tough to even name an area of the oncourt experience that didn’t get upgraded in one way or another. We’ve been playing the game til our fingers bleed and loving every minute of it. There’s a lot to cover so let’s jump right in.

First off, I want to congratulate and thank the gameplay team. This is the hardest working group of guys in the industry with an insatiable drive to be the best. No one has ever said, “ehh… that’s good enough.” We’re our own biggest critics and it’s cool to work with a team of guys who constantly strive to outperform themselves and genuinely love the game of basketball.

Like I said, there’s a lot to cover, way too much to write about in just one blog, so I’m going to try and highlight some of the things we’re proudest of in NBA 2K16.

I told y'all I'm being a hard sell this year. I meant it.

Just look at how 15 plays and tell me you really trust them to right the ship in one year since the advent of vc their game has gotten worse every year.

We hear you man. We know it's all about screenshots.

After about another month I started getting my stats up and started beasting down there and I got called up, it just felt real.

Truer words. The way the mode babies people today just breaks the immersion for me. I can't stand it. It's tedious and boring because getting 20 pts and 7 rebs is a ho-hum day.

Which is even more absurd because we're doing that as an undrafted rookie coming into the league in January. They honestly need to make VC exclusively for things like shoes/clothes/accessories in this mode and bring back the SP system from MyPlayer.

And there's no way to adjust the difficulty and realism through sliders because VC. It's a poorly tuned one-size-fits all mode. It's not MyCareer or me Being The Story. It's me being forced to play the career of a cheese hero baller as envisioned by casual fans and gamers.

What would be interesting is actually having teams and players playing like themselves, with limited touches to go around, and a realistic pecking that you either learn to live with, fight to get the top of, or go to a terrible team to be the hero iso baller of that squad.

It would give everyone a bit of what they want, allow it in a real NBA context, and produce realistic player and team storylines. And it'd teach folks a thing or two about the actual league. What path will you take? Will you be an Andre Iguodala, who was always uncomfortable with offensive stardom and always longed to be in a supportive team context-- or will you be a Carmelo Anthony, superstar on a bad squad, turning down title contending teams for the biggest contract possible and the glamour of the idea of being hero to a city, if not THE city?

I'm loving the blogs we've been getting these past few days. Most of my problems with the game seem to be fixed. But are coaches still going to call timeouts with 0.2 seconds left in a quarter to get you into the game in MyCareer? The unnecessary timeouts really ruined close games in MyCareer because both teams were out of timeouts by the 1 minute mark in the 3rd quarter.

Another thing I'd like to see fixed is the A.I. offensive rebounding. My teammates will get an offensive board and automatically force up a bad layup no matter how many defenders were around and no matter who was open. If I called for a pass after an offensive rebound I would normally get "bad call for pass" even when I'm open. When the rebounder finally passes it out to me it's inaccurate due to it being a pass out of a shot and that often leads to turnovers.

If I knew anything about game design, I'd want to work for Mike Wang and the NBA 2K team. Always raising the bar, and I appreciate bosses that acknowledge and share credit with the staff responsible. Thanks to Mike, Scott and Czar for the crazy amount of detail in the blogs.

NBA 2K16 is going to be pure fire. Congrats on a job well-done.

Can't wait the only thing is I feel the customization can be a little better especially with my career being a real big part of the game

You know how this works, right? The team at VC focuses only on CG.

From what I've heard, that's exactly what PS3 2K15 was compared to PS3 2K14, too (though I at least hope PS3 2K15 didn't crash on loading MyCareer games like 2K14 did).

Yeah, it's time to move on. Save your money for a PS4. Believe me, it's worth it.

Might as well go dig up a blog from NBA 2k13, not sure much has changed.

I know a few people heard Mike Wang said about 2:56 seconds in "we have twee(3) dedicated pass buttons" lol

I was hoping to hear about charge/blocking and hear if we had any changes made...

I just want one feature - allow me to play Single Player offline to its fullest, for the oh so many times 2K servers crash.

Its gonna be a roster update. It's been time to upgrade to a new console/PC since 2k14. No sense in 2k wasting time on last gen features.
