Madden NFL 13 News Post

It all seemed too good to be true.

Now after this week's bombshells that you cannot edit players in connected careers or play any other games in the mode other than your own, it seems like the Madden team is once again forcing you to play your game their way. To me, this is a huge problem. Others of you? Maybe not so much. But let's hear it: Has the 'closed' nature of Connected Careers turned you away and/or cooled your enthusiasm about Madden NFL 13?

Sound off!

Actually, if you played former Maddens, you would realize that Twitter is replacing Tony Bruno and newspaper articles.

People seemed to love those features in former Maddens.

Ditto but to be fair there's no issue with having full editing online but restricted to the league creator I.e. Commissioner/ single user.
Its less an online/offline issue than a development priority fail IMO

Yeah people aren't suckers if the things they removed don't affect them. Me personally I never edited players just felt like cheating, and I could care less if the face mask on my third string RB isn't right and so forth.

I only ever control one team because it is to much of a hassel to do multiple teams with my schedule, so controlling only one team doesn't phase me either. And importing has never worked correctly so I never used something that was broken.

The only thing that does sorta suck is the inability to change the players position, but I can live without that. There have been so many things added this year I can live without some features for a year as they try to find a way to implement them correctly without any problems.

I do understand people are upset that some features they became accustomed to aren't in. I'm not saying what EA did was right, but calling people suckers because they removed some features, that are probably in the minority (via their numbers) were removed. And the reason I say there numbers is I can see where multiple team offline franchise could be big where there is no connection, and EA doesn't get those numbers.

From a buisness stand point they probably aimed to get the features that they felt would appeal to a larger crowd. And that is probably what they focused on. Because finally Online has gotten some treatment which should be nice to finally be able to do without needing an outside source to accomplish. But hopefully they can find a way to get some of these features in the game sooner rather than later.

I'm an OLF player, so for myself and our league we will likely welcome the change as it seems the bigger complaints are things OLF has never had to begin with. (controlling 32 teams, multi-users on the same console, etc.).

We're finally getting unique draft classes (that you can't predict), salary caps, scouting, etc. All we've ever had by EA default is games to play, and a predictable rookie draft until XFN came along and offered all of it's bells and whistles.

This is the most monotonous thread I have seen in a long while. It is the same people saying the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.........have you got the point yet........no ok..........and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and overand over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and overand over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.................oh wait lets repeat it a dozen other ways and see if it changes...............and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and overand over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and overand over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.

CC is new its not an addition. Its a reboot. They took franchise out and started over, so they could get it right. some features of franchise didn't make it in because they didn't have time to get them working with the core functionality of the new game mode.

i also remember reading about working on CC for 2 yrs.

A few threads have been like that for the past week and last week, too. I doubt it will ease up until some people are satisfied with answers from EA.

It wouldn't be if people stop trying to deflect and defend everything

Biggest annoyance here is that people want to tell you wants important because it's important to them, then you have the hyperbole poster (overreaction sports) who claims the sky is falling, then you have more post to tell him how crazy he is.

Lol no team work.

Geeez not everything has to be a debate, let's see some good discussion sometime.

I think that's what a lot of offline franchise feel, that as a relacement for online franchise and SS its a brilliant idea with many appealling features but as it stands it lacks too many key ingredients to replace franchise mode entirely.

Problem you run into with using it as an addition is you run out of space and it is even more game modes you have to update. They went this route so it was easier to manage their resources. Better use of resources means better quality you can put out in the future. Better use of time and money is good for a business. Which is business 101 which probably going to override coding 101.

Plus having multiple game modes will probably means the old wouldn't be touched with any of the updates, which means it would be the exact same as Madden 12 which means why not just play Madden 12. I know blunt but it is the truth.

I have been reading about how they took everything out of the game and left nothing but a gutted game. So my question is then stick with Madden 12 and don't bother with 13. The reason they made the moves were probably a business decision and not a coding one. Because odds are both aren't going to fit, and if they did you would have 2 drastic different coding and need of different rosters since it looks like there are new ratings. If those ratings need to be updated and made to work in 2 different game modes then they waste time and money. Bad business.

It seems like a huge entitlement complex I have been seeing over the last week/2 weeks and it is actually pretty funny to watch. Everyone feels they should be entitled to features they have grown accustomed to. Yes it would have been great for them to keep the features that weren't incorporated, but some time time constraints play a factor. If they feel they can still appease the majority of people then they will go on with that move.

But in the end it would be great if everyone can be happy lol /end rant.

still have to play the game for a final verdict, redbox should be everyones friend.

Plus the franchise mode would still get the gameplay improvements.
But see here is where the time is money comes into play. lets break this down.

You have franchise mode and CC mode, both have different coding one built for the changes one not. So to implement all the new changes that CC got into Franchise mode it would take a lot more time and manpower to test all the changes for bugs. well now you are wasting time by trying to make those changes. So now you lose features still and risk a lot buggier game.

So that doesn't even seem like an option. The best option is trying to get those features to work properally in the CC, because porting Franchise over would be completely different than CC and wouldn't have any of the changes with out dedicating time and resources to it which is why they made the change.

They don't have to pick if they want to dedicate time to superstar, franchise, or online franchise. They made a move for longterm to improve their game. It is a business move to try to appeal to a wide range of people not just one. And guess what if they did just stick with franchise mode to appease the offline group guess what this board would still be complaining that online was forgotten again.

What you guys are starting to touch on is another of my questions that I don't think they'll answer - if it has been an "enough space" and "coding" problem combined, then why worry with this gen, as the next-gen will obviously have increased capabilities?

See, that's my main reasoning to say this seems like a beta test, and likely next year will be the same somewhat, as they will keep trying to see what else they can add into this new code. One look at NCAA 13 (and remember, they are coding over 150 teams with all the features we like), and it proves that they had substantial room to still explore adding features.

P.S. For anyone that wants to still defend how hard it is to code full editing, I again point out that NCAA 13 does it for 150+ teams and in much, much more of a scale (Oregon uniform options, for example). So, either it's a massive programming haul to get full editing done in the game, and that promotes the limits of disc space available is mega-massive beyond what is needed for Madden....or....it's a very minor programming haul, and again, there is more than sufficient space available.

I'm telling you, the logic that coding for editing is so complicated just doesn't stand up. Storylines, twitter and all that other jazz are simply known as triggers, and no amount of cosmetic or speed/size editing should affect them.

100% turned off to Madden this year. A definite no buy after these announcements. I'm an offline fantasy guy. EA told me to take the things I enjoy, turn 'em around, and shove 'em straight up my candy ***!

Probably the most disappointed I have ever been with Madden. I am pretty sure I haven't missed buying a Madden since like 03. This year nothing will get me to buy with the slap in the face EA has given me.

Offline CC has to be a separate mode on the disc in it's current format simply for the player that buys the game and can't get online. How many copies of Madden have never used their online pass code. How many people who buy madden with the exception of ps3 users have connected consoles. Too believe that there are not two separate modes is to be a bit naive. Isn't online handled server side?

How anyone defends the decision to fix offline and finally pay the attention to it that is deserved since day one by gutting offline amazes me. As cool as CCM could be downline it came at the expense of great features that added value to the game for many and for some it completely removed the only way they've played the game with their friends and family for years. The design decisions that have been made for 13 are the most disrespectful and misguided the title has made in a while and they won't get a single penny from me until they repair their relationship with me by making better design decisions.

Just fix Online once and for all and do it without it coming at the expense of features and modes that have been in the game for years and affected a great deal of faithful paying customers. I don't even use offline, but I wanted those users to have as many great features as possible because they deserve them.

You want to make a perfect circle, you don't do it by starting off by designing it with two 90 degree angles.

I've never been an editor myself. I would dabble with it some, so I won't miss that terribly. However, I did import draft classes from NCAA, so that I will miss.

Nor have I been one to play other games on the schedule, so I, personally, won't miss it.

That said, I fear that the offline franchise is being completely phased out. The only game I play online is Modern Warfare, and I fear that this new CCM is a shift towards moving gamers over to online, something I have neither the time nor the desire to do.

My hope? That the Madden boys simply ran out of time to put these features in there.

Regardless, this wasn't a day-1 purchase for me. I haven't bought a Madden game since the simultaneous release of Madden/Head Coach 09, first day or later. I've approached Madden with skepticism since 09, and was doing so with 13. This new CCM simply enhanced my curiosity and skepticism at the same time.
