Madden NFL 13 News Post

It all seemed too good to be true.

Now after this week's bombshells that you cannot edit players in connected careers or play any other games in the mode other than your own, it seems like the Madden team is once again forcing you to play your game their way. To me, this is a huge problem. Others of you? Maybe not so much. But let's hear it: Has the 'closed' nature of Connected Careers turned you away and/or cooled your enthusiasm about Madden NFL 13?

Sound off!

I'm very disappointed at the removal of all the customisation and control I spent so much time utilising however I like the new CC features particularly the XP system for progression ( hopefully its tuned well).
I'm also pretty positive as to how gameplay on the field is progressing
Just PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give me full player editing back or at least allow the use of custom rosters asap

I wish people would stop complaining about losing the control from last years game. You weren't controlling anything. You were just fixing the screwed up data caused by the games bad logic.

There wasn't any depth or excitement to Franchise mode. What was there even to do besides playing games?

Free Agency? LOL
Scouting? LOL
The Draft? LOL
Progression? LOL
Trades? LOL, Most NFL trades are about moving up and down in the draft and it just did not work.

All of it was just plain bad.

IF connected careers actually works, it will be the first time in a while that a Madden player actually has control of an NFL franchise. Where your decisions actually have an affect on the state of your team. I guess if you like to simulate the events of the real NFL season, it definitely wont do that, but the game isn't even meant to do that.

All of this has really turned me off. I'm still going to buy it but if the features of CCM don't work as they're advertised, I don't know what I'm going to do. The whole experience just sounds so tied down...

I already feel like this is Xbox 360's Madden 06 all over again.

I have a strange feeling CC is an attempt to make Madden into either Dragon Age or Mass Effect. I'm really feeling the RPG part of this is going to kill the RTP that EA introduced. In the end of the day it about football and I think to many folks at EA are getting swept up with the success of ME and DA.

I agree that they are focusing too much on trying to be a first person game. Football is a team sport and I know I don't speak for myself when I say I don't want to just have control of ONE player. So many of us take control of every team to live out the NFL as real as possible.

If anything they should have made the CCM the new Superstar mode or whatever it was called.

ELIMINATING franchise was a huge mistake. I know franchise is part of CCM but before just getting rid of it all together they should have kept it in with CCM for the first year to see how it worked. If CCM is amazing and we want more, THEN you get rid of franchise. A lot of Madden players buy the game just for offline franchise, now we don't have it.

Naw, There is nothing RPG about it. Using points to progress players is not new. The previous gen allowed you to do it by running the drills and HC09 used game performance to allocated XP.

Why keep the old franchise? It is trash.

its has also been used by 2k for myplayer and for road to the show. people are bashing it because its ea. even college hoops 2k8 had progression just like head coach 09.

I'm trading the game in if it isn't any good. I have no problem playing Madden 08 and NFL Head Coach 09 (which I am playing RIGHT NOW).

Question: It says when you start a career mode you select a player or be a coach. My question is can you only be that player or can you still switch as you play?

I really don't get it. They introduce XP and use the phrase "RPG influenced" and people immediately go the route of claiming Madden will turn into a full on RPG.

Get a grip people.

You can switch.

It had the features many of us enjoyed in order to get more immersed in the game. It's almost a compulsion or an obsession to control every little detail.

To be able to simultaneously take my beloved Eagles and the Steelers to the Super Bowl in one franchise rather than separate careers.

To make sure I can make a roster that I can use (can't play the game online) past this year.

This thread is full of passionate madden players, and although we really see the benefit of the CC, it's really only beneficial to the online player and most agree long over due. All the offline customization player wants is the features that were removed and if that means we were neglected and it were explained why, we may have sung a song of praise instead of stirring controversy. Which do you think is a better solution? They way they have handled the situation so far doesn't seem to be going over to well.

if you select to be a player, you get to choose anyone in the nfl, a legend, or create your own. it plays like superstar from there, controling only your player.

See the discrepancy in your post?

They're not trying to make a first person game.

CC will be the deepest franchise mode you've played in a Madden game.

This is completely false. I am both an offline and online player, and it will undoubtedly benefit the offline franchises that I play every year. There are a lot of things about it that are pretty good that have nothing to do with online.

If there isn't a normal way to play "Franchise" then I won't be buying Madden. I don't care for Be A Pro or Superstar modes.

It will be the deepest franchise mode yes, but without letting us customize it how we want. I really like what they are adding with the CCM, I just dislike what they are taking out even more. I like the ability to control every team and every player...and yes that includes editing all the small things.

2 years ago DeSean Jackson got a concussion. He was wearing a Schutt Air helmet. After the concussion he switched to the Schutt XP. Being able to change things like that, as small as it is, is very important to some of us detail oriented players. Same goes with Big Ben...when he broke his nose he started wearing a visor. We now don't have the ability to make the players how we want.
