Madden NFL 13 News Post

It all seemed too good to be true.

Now after this week's bombshells that you cannot edit players in connected careers or play any other games in the mode other than your own, it seems like the Madden team is once again forcing you to play your game their way. To me, this is a huge problem. Others of you? Maybe not so much. But let's hear it: Has the 'closed' nature of Connected Careers turned you away and/or cooled your enthusiasm about Madden NFL 13?

Sound off!

I know that the reason they took some of these features out of the game (Editing rosters, imported draft classes, fantasy draft, etc) is because they didn't have enough time to tune and make these work correctly in CC mode. A lot of people may be discouraged about them leaving it out of the game, but you have to understand that Madden is released every single year, they can't just delay the game for months and months to make sure everything is perfect. At this point, I think they decided that if they can't get it right, they're just not gonna put it in the game this year.

For the last two years they've been working almost exclusively on making CC work perfectly to reflect a realistic franchise/SS simulation using the actual NFL rosters that they put out. You have to ask yourself, would you rather have franchise and superstar work great in CC without those extra features that are more on the fantasy side rather than sim; or would you rather have all of those features in the game, but neither those nor the regular options work nearly as good because they had to spread themselves too thin?

Me personally, I don't have any issues with the rosters EA puts out and never edit them anyways so it's not a big deal for me. No fantasy draft is kind of a bummer, but it's not like there aren't ways around it either. I would much rather have them focus their time on getting CC's as close to perfect as they can with regular rosters before they start trying to do too much. All will be well as long as they get it right for me.

quick question,

Since you can't PLAY any other league games on the schedule other than the team you're controlling, can you atleast SPECTATE (watch) the other league games?

Heres what i dont understand about the whole editing issue in CC

When you create a superstar (not sure if this has been confirmed that you can do this with existing players also) but when you create a SS..the edit screen comes up and you can edit your player how u like before you start your CC....

so what is all this talk that editing/coding couldnt be added into CC!? It already is to some degree!!! That whole excuse they and a couple ppl on here are giving us regarding that makes absolutely no sense...why cant we have a option with ALL players before we start our CC like we do with a created SS regarding equipment/# editing...you cant say its not implemented in CC system...because IT IS!!!!...

Like in the webcast, they show the older players with the longer sleeves and etc...welllllll players like Peyton Manning and Tony Romo still wear them and in videos i seen at E3 they dont have them...soo if Donny Moore doesnt give them their realistic equipment...what happens then??...since these are included in the game now...i would like to represent MY career/franchise as realistic as possible...but how can i when i dnt even have that option...and i have to depend on ONE guy to get this right...who has shown the inability to do this in the past...

Some of this absolutely makes no damn sense...period

yea I know that, when DOES their license end anyways?...I still bare hope that theres a 2k14 or SUMTHIN to light a match under EA's butts. I just hate this yoyo effect with them. they improve the game only to regress again.

License ends March 2013, so EA will make another game with the current license and probably several more when they re-up.

oops, sorry went off topic, back on topic.

Ummm... like? I fail to see how there will be ways around no fantasy draft. It's not like someone can create a roster and upload it for use in a franchise....

Not to be off topic, but from the NFL's standpoint, why would they make things exclusive? They do this with season ticket as well. Wouldn't they stand to make more money by not being exclusive? Someone give me a business lesson!

I don't know any of the details, but I'm guessing that EA is spending a large amount of money to have the exclusive NFL rights. And whenever the deal runs up they'll likely be paying even more to keep the NFL deal exclusive.

I think it's going to be a very long time before we see anyone other than EA make an NFL game. I hope I'm wrong and I'm not saying that I think EA makes poor NFL games, but if we had multiple NFL games every year the competition would lead to higher quality games for all of us.

Was proved a long time ago that the NFL makes more money with an exclusive vs non-exclusive by a former EA employee.

It's the standard practice of the NFL, exclusivity.

Probably better for another thread, like Big's lol.

Wow, I didnt realize that editing your own rosters and playing other teams games was such a huge deal for people. I suppose I understand why though. I guess its more about at least having those options available to you, and now that they aren't, it does come across as a slap in the face to those that have used these features over the last several years.

Regardless, these two issues don't apply to me. When I play my offline franchise, I only worry about my own team anyway, and I dont ever find myself messing with editing rosters. But I'm a big time online franchise guy, so having all these new features to play with in my online franchises has me extremely hyped up. I was disappointed at first to hear that there's no fantasy drafts, but im well over it now. Completely fine with using default rosters.

Honestly it wouldn't surprise me on bit to see the NFL actually take the approach of opening it up to multiple licenses. The NFL could easily subsidize its own Game division to assist and ensure compliance standards through going to multiple licenses and I would guess that when they worked the deal with EA they just didn't want to take that on.

I'm totally guessing of course and hopefully this does happen because I think the consumer could use choices.

What is "NFL Authentic"? In Madden 11, if the Colts released Manning, people cried "they would NEVER do that!" Well, guess what?

"CJ2K is the best back in the league, and I'm going to edit him that way!" Where'd he go last year?

"A punter drafted in the 3rd round??? Madden's draft logic is broken!" The Jaguars say hi.

My point is, the NFL is crazy...and things change all the time. Something crazy happens in CCM, well that's just another crazy day in the NFL offseason to me.

I want the 49ers uniforms and helmets corrected. I want the Bills' mid-field logo fixed. I want (your team here) to have correct uniforms, too. That is all much more important to me than being able to edit Vick's visor, or putting an elbow pad on the left arm of that one DE instead of it being on his right.
How about being able to create all the players donny moore leaves off rosters (victor cruz wasn't originally in M12)
Being able to edit ratings globally to decrease sacks by DTs and increase them for outside rushers
Remove retired #s
Give draft classes appropriate equipment , names etc
These are some of many realistic reasons people are frustrated

I've thought of this, too because they keep talking about taking the game globally. That, and just the fact that the NFL clearly sees how their own players being able to bid against other teams always raises their worth...it should be plain as day to them. Business competition will always beget progress and profit.

Neither of those is a dealbreaker for me, as I am willing to put up with just about anything that might make Madden's franchise mode interesting again. I also like the way Connected Careers could really strengthen online leagues. But taking editing out in particular seems like a really odd choice.

Your still getting editing options...you mean to tell me they couldnt open that up for every player??...or how about this...You cant put that same Create-a-player option in to coach mode to atleast allow us to also play with our created player but at the same control every aspect of our team...

i mean its already implemented..soooo im sure it wouldnt be too hard to ATLEAST make that an option...
