Madden NFL 13 News Post

Because I have been asked about this via Twitter and email so often, I wanted to make sure people were aware.

Justin Dewiel, Community Manager for EA Sports, just confirmed via Twitter (just follow the timeline), if you coach a team, you can no longer play other games on the schedule, only the game(s) on your own schedule.

For example. Rgiles asked if he could coach the Cowboys in CCM, but play the Patriots vs. Browns game.

Justin stated that it is not possible, because CCM is based around you and your character (coach or player).

Going by you're theory, Why in the hell would you recode something and excluded 3 major features that fans have been using since the Sega genesis,Super nintendo, playstation, gamecube, xbox, playstation 2, and xbox days? "Things" aren't going to make the cut? Those "things" you say are the main reason some of the Madden fans purchase the game each and every year regardless if the gameplay is tight or trash. Basically you are saying you're satisfied with them adding twitter feeds over editing players, equipment, and playing other games?

Thanks for the laugh.
No thank you for the laugh. You stated "some" of the fans enjoy those features. Regardless of how you feel about those features, EA's priorities are to the mass audience. This isn't a game pitched to a niche audience of hardcore fans (as sad as that is) rather for everyone. There are going to be alot of people out there who just don't care about these minor (Yes I said minor because lets be honest, it's just spilled milk) reductions in 13. EA is comfortable releasing this game as is because 1.) they know it will sell like hot cakes due to the upgrades and additions they did add, and 2.) they now have a solid foundation to improve upon for next years game. Here's my point. When dealing with a new engine that is built in a year, there is ALOT of work that goes into tweaking it to make it remotely releasable. That can take months to do. Features that can't get worked out in time get cut. I guarantee the reason you can't edit rosters and equipment has to do with aligning those changes among all other users in your CCM. But wait... I'm sure that just works perfectly through the use of EA magic huh? (Thats sarcasm if you couldn't tell) It's time to stop setting your expectations so high and be realists... After all... It is another EA game...

I fail to see the problem? If you are playing as a COACH, why should you have control of the other teams?

The only thing worrying me is not being able to edit rookies as they come into the league, numbers being my major concern. I'm really hoping the implement a way to change their numbers, be it when you sign them you place a number on them or a way to edit them. Just praying now...

I only ever played my own games

Because I paid $60 bucks for a football video game.

Why make a football video game that doesn't allow you to play football games?

Define casual... When I think of a "casual player" I see someone who wants to pick up the controller and play a few games in "Play it Now." They may venture into CCM to play around a season or two but nowadays it's about playing against your bud from across the country online for bragging rights. The rest of the CCM is more like EA throwing us "Hardcore" fans a bone. The finer details that wasn't at the top of the list got nixed and will be held off until they have the time to fine tune it for next year. Simple as that. And again, I'm sure allowing a user to modify uni's and update rosters in CCM is much more painstaking to develop and make work properly online than anyone is giving credit for. Code doesn't write itself nor does it work properly the first, second, or third attempt. You have to be realistic about these things.

Because so far they have never been able to give CPU teams good enough AI to build competent teams. If you control multiple teams you make the league better as a whole and give your team more competition.

You might be joking but that might be the case, so EA won't even let us control when we stop playing as you must leave your game console on and connected to the net or risk forfeiting you whole "connected career" it's not a mode, it's a life sentence

Even if you don't want to play other team's games, some people would like to have control over what the other teams do. For instance, what if the cpu decides that Kurt Warner should come out of retirement and take over as some team's starting QB?

While that may seem ludicrous, there was a screenshot of this same scenario recently posted for Madden 13.

As someone that played only their own game, I do have friends that played/made moves outside of their one team. It sucks it's gone, but I see their point of view that if they want to build this deep, feature rich CCM, some things didn't work correctly and they're not going to include it until its right. I'd prefer they not input something that's broken and we complain (EA's signature move). I do want to ask, whats going to happen that if they hear the complaints, patch the support in and then in the patch it doesn't work. Then what? They really won't want to listen to us then. Just my two cents.

What if you have sons, brothers, roommates all living under one roof that want to play an OFFLINE franchise together? What are those people suppose to do? Secondly, if I pay $60 for a game and I want to make my team all 99 OVR players and the CPU all 30 OVR players who's business is it? Why am I going to pay $60 and not be able to play the software the way that I want. What control am I getting for my money. That is the bigger picture here.

On top of that, all this comes 1 year after Josh Looman talked about how users should be able to edit, and customize their franchise experience as they see fit? In one dev cycle he has done a complete 180.

i dont know if this has been said didnt feel like reading all the comments. I personally didnt like controlling but I liked watching the Sunday Night and Monday Night games if my team was not participating in them. Plus after about 3yrs franchise gets boring to me so I would watch the 2 teams that made the Super Bowl thats is how Madden entertained me, So I that this years Madden will keep my attention past 3 or 4yrs of CC. So I understand why people are frustrated about this "feature" not being in the game.

multi team control is probably something that will be in next year with as massive a game mode some things had to be left out

Finally, someone else who is realistic about the situation.

You can't expect a realistic reaction. Either the sky is falling, or the ground is crumbling beneath us. Either way, while I'm beyond myself that editing players is removed, I'm honestly just happy they did something to what was one of the single worst "dynasty/franchise" modes in all of sports game. It underwent so few changes from 06-12 its about time.

That is correct. You can not transfer draft classes or Road to Glory players from NCAA 13 to Madden 13.

I don't see why people are so insanely focused on having complete and udder control over all aspects. I remember just a year ago people on here were screaming from the tops of the hills that they wanted a franchise similar to this.

Some people are complaining that they don't have complete control over what other coaches do. Isn't that the point of taking over a team. As a player in the NFL you can't choose to be on a specific team, teams must actively seek you. Yes they showed a team taking Kurt Warner over their starter and though I think it's an interesting addition people are complaining it's rediculous and not realistic.

Really now? And I suppose Peyton Manning who has never missed a game, misses one season and gets released into FA for an unproven rookie is not realistic either. Or Tebow a 1st round draft pick traded for almost nothing. Or a 28 year old QB drafted to replace a young starting QB.

Except all of these things have happened this season.

Madden is supposed to be a simulation of football and now that they are actually taking steps in that direction everyone is already complaining. Last time I checked Mike Smith didn't have control over Sean Paytons decisions or vice-versa. RG3 didn't have the freedom to choose to be on the Eagles rather than the Redskins. So to me it makes sense why we only have the ability to control one coach or one player at a time.

I can understand the complaints about multilayer concerning offline but no one seems to ask why this has been left out rather than complain why it's not in. Is it not plausible with player control it was difficult to include it without being glitchy. And I'm sure certain changes can be made before you begin a CC such as rosters such as edits and trades in player management.

I understand people thinking they need control because of the UDFA issue last season but now that they have removed them and made ratings team specific that they may have fixed that issue.

I guess I look at it in the sense that I want to play a simulation of NFL I don't want to play god.

Just my 2 cents.

And, you would be wrong.
