Madden NFL 13 News Post

While most of the Madden NFL 13 news out of E3 seems to be positive, we now have something that could turn into a very big issue. Especially if you enjoy roster editing or use edited rosters created by others.

There seemed to be some confusion about edited rosters. More specifically, if edited rosters could be used in Connected Careers Mode.

I sent a few messages to Justin Dewiel, Community Manager at EA Sports earlier this afternoon and received the following responses.

Quote:
You can edit rosters outside of CC. But you can’t bring them into CC.

If you start a new CCM career after one of Donny Moore’s releases you can start with that new roster.

Basically, we have to rely on Donny Moore's roster updates, throughout the season, instead of grabbing updated rosters from the many talented roster editors out there, or simply editing on our own.

Jean Adams, Art Director for Madden NFL 13, mentioned the following, in his presentation blog, which was posted in late April.

Quote:
Mixing and matching the new NIKE uniforms, cleats, face masks, sleeves and other yet to be released gear will keep me and many gamers out there in edit player for hours.

Hmmm. I somehow doubt many gamers will be playing around much in edit player, if we can't use the edits in anything other than a Play Now session.

Josh Looman, Madden NFL 13 Senior Designer mentioned on Twitter the following glimmer of hope.

Quote:
We just ran out of time. It will be in there at some point in the future.

Does he mean Madden NFL 14 or could the Madden NFL 13 team add the editing ability in a Title Update or fix the issue before its August 28th release date? I think I speak for everyone, when I say the sooner, the better.

I'd be fired. When you are the head of a dev team, and you promote your new "features" as groundbreaking, you damn well better to be able to explain why your features are worth changing the way the game had been played for years. I do not think they have done an adequate job of that. Please tell me how they have?

Aside from that, ea stock has dropped drastically for the past 12 months, the video game industry is struggling, and the whole economy is about to burst, so from an economic standpoint, please explain how isolating a large part of your target fan base makes sense? There will be a decline in overall sales, again, for madden. why stand up for them? This Is their attempt to use a big franchise and make it more profitable, by making more online friendly, , instead of making the game more enjoyable. The sooner you realize that bro, they do not care about anything, but their bottom line, the better off you will be.
no you dont say that they should be fired but you insinuated it. why else say you would be fired from your job for saying what they have been saying?

online doesn't make them more money. they actually spend more money to support their online game modes. add that to the fact that more people play offline than online doesn't show it to be more profitable in any way. how is it helping their bottom line to make a game that only caters to a smaller customer base, and require money and people to keep their servers running?

First, Because "we didnt have enough time" does not cut it in real business. Good luck, if you think it does. Second, if what you say is that the "offline" consumer is the majority of their consumer base, then they are really screwed, bc that is where the majority of features have been removed.

Should I post you a link of what ea stock, and madden sales trends have been? Bc it's not good. But maybe you and your optimism can turn It all around.. Your about to waste your money on a 1/2 a.. Release.

sure they left some features out but in no way is this a half a attempt my man no way at all. they put a lot of work into this years game and look what they have to show for it. a RTP engine, CCM and the whole new commentary team and all that stuff. doesnt sound like a half a attempt to me. if you feel that way then hey more power to ya.

Reed.. You've played it? Or watched vids on-line? My "man". I'm talking about what I know is left out, your talking about hype. Or have you played the game in depth? Bc if so, I gotta bunch of questions...

# 765 Reed1417 @ 06/18/12 02:24 AM
i've just watched the videos online my man. but no i have not played it. i realize your talking about what's left out believe me i'm just as upset as you and i would love to have that stuff back in this year but in my mind i dont think this year has been a lackluster development year.

# 766 peylog27 @ 06/18/12 02:39 AM
Reed. Thanks for the response, I agree that they have made strides on trying to improve, but.. The online vids are meant to get you hyped bro, that's marketing. Ideas do not translate to functionality in a one year time span, I hope you enjoy it, and do not want to keep you from that experience, in my opinion though, (played/bought since sg 93... Im old...they are not really ready for the release this year, does not mean they are not trying. But they should be more forthcomeing in what it takes to make cc
not make lame excuses for what isn't In it.

I don't know how large of their fan base they are really isolating though. If I were taking a guess, I would say it's not that big a number.

This issue will slowly die down at some point between now and the release of Madden before it's brought back to life right around the release of Madden. It will be pretty much the same people, having the same discussion all over again. Someone will mention how one player they saw drafted looked funny and people will swarm on it like bees.

if we are still going to get the "funny-looking" jacked up drafted players with this mode then it was not ready for this installment of madden...and they should have left franchise IN for m13...simple as that ..who wants to spend time to scout and draft a QB only to find out he is #48 wearing an offensive linemans facemask , elbow pads, and kicker cleats..and there is nothing you can do to change it... that kind of kills the realism ya know

That's exactly what I'm talking about. They take out editing and all of a sudden all hell has broken loose within the game? QB's will look like centers, centers will look like punters, punters will look like Gilbert Brown. It never happened before but now that editing is gone it gets exploded into an absolutely gamebreaking issue that never existed (and almost certainly doesn't exist) when you did have the ability to edit players.

Exagerating someones point ad absurdium in no way negates it, odd equipment on rookies does happen and whilst unobservent types like me may not be overly bothered others are entitled to their opinions

I just want to reconfirm something, as I think it's lost in translation lately:

A lot of people unconcerned with roster editing allowed to us during CCM seem to be on the side of thinking that you will be able to use Donny's updated rosters as you go on, still in the middle of your CCM. You won't. If you want to use the new breakout player(s) of the year, then you'll have to do either of two things: You can wait for Donny to update the roster, and then you have to restart your CCM from the very beginning...or....you can try your best to build up that player with XP (but that means you must control him somehow, first, so good luck having the fun of switching around - back and forth - etc).

What you can't do, however - you can't edit the roster from the beginning as you want it and then use it in anyway during a season/franchise/CCM. You only now have the previously explained two options.

It sucks to see offline dynasty slowly being phased out.

I like to play my franchise modes a certain way. I like to edit my entire league rosters to my liking, start a franchise mode, and play games from all around the league.

In a given week I might wanna play Vikings vs Packers and then Saints vs Falcons and the next week Cowboys vs Giants. And if something seems off, I will go edit players during the franchise.

And I always edit rookies to create my own storylines.

Seems all of that is being taken away from me. I can't use my own edits and I can't play other games around the league. That's pretty much 75% of the enjoyment that I get from franchise/association/dynasty modes.

I honestly don't even know if I want to play their version of franchise mode now. They pretty much just told me I can't play the game the way I have for the last 10 years.

Guess this is their idea of taking the game to the next level.

Having all 53 on every team would be a start but no your right in that you would have to be physic to get everybody on the real rosters in january in the game from week one or a huge database THAT is why editing is so useful

I don't know about other Madden players, but one of the first things I do is go through and make the rosters accurate. I might initially play a play now game to see gameplay improvements, but my first thought is the accuracy of the rosters. My team first, then my alternate, from there I start go in alphabetical order. I create missing players, and when that wasn't possible I renamed current inactive players that were in the free agent pool or still on rosters. I would take out players that were on injured reserve by removing them to FA. Disappointing that it's gone.

This is the sort of stuff I would do too, it took me until M10 to accept the PS3 version partly because on the PS2 although you could only do 64 I think CAPs you could delete them and create another if some UDFA missing in the game pulled a Cruz during the season

i've been playing Madden since 95 i'm 20 now but i guess thats besides the point haha. every year i watch the playbooks they do for both games and all that stuff and i try to keep myself at a level head espically after last year. last year in my mind was bad but seeing the work they've done i'm excited. i do want the very best for this game because i love it so much. that and imma huge sports fan like all of us here. hopefully we all can enjoy the game. but if i see weird looking college players in my Franchise i will be upset.

The first thing I do on every single sports game is head into the roster management screen. Now there's not even a reason to do that since my changes won't be allowed in CC.

This is going in my signature because that is the exact summarization of my take on the whole roster editing issue. I can spend a great deal of time modifying the ratings and, sometimes, the equipment on roster files, but there simply isn't a point to it on M13. How unfortunate.

Mannn...i think having created players, and edited rosters still in the main menu...is a slap in the face....they should just take that out as well...theres really no point in even havin it there...
