Madden NFL 13 News Post

While most of the Madden NFL 13 news out of E3 seems to be positive, we now have something that could turn into a very big issue. Especially if you enjoy roster editing or use edited rosters created by others.

There seemed to be some confusion about edited rosters. More specifically, if edited rosters could be used in Connected Careers Mode.

I sent a few messages to Justin Dewiel, Community Manager at EA Sports earlier this afternoon and received the following responses.

Quote:
You can edit rosters outside of CC. But you can’t bring them into CC.

If you start a new CCM career after one of Donny Moore’s releases you can start with that new roster.

Basically, we have to rely on Donny Moore's roster updates, throughout the season, instead of grabbing updated rosters from the many talented roster editors out there, or simply editing on our own.

Jean Adams, Art Director for Madden NFL 13, mentioned the following, in his presentation blog, which was posted in late April.

Quote:
Mixing and matching the new NIKE uniforms, cleats, face masks, sleeves and other yet to be released gear will keep me and many gamers out there in edit player for hours.

Hmmm. I somehow doubt many gamers will be playing around much in edit player, if we can't use the edits in anything other than a Play Now session.

Josh Looman, Madden NFL 13 Senior Designer mentioned on Twitter the following glimmer of hope.

Quote:
We just ran out of time. It will be in there at some point in the future.

Does he mean Madden NFL 14 or could the Madden NFL 13 team add the editing ability in a Title Update or fix the issue before its August 28th release date? I think I speak for everyone, when I say the sooner, the better.

WTF?..........lol

I think you're attempting to make editing out to be some type of huge time consuming thing in your mind and thats a total joke. Maybe someone invests two hours into editing before they start a franchise and then an hour or so before every season to edit rookies.

Editing doesn't have anything to do with how old you are or how much time you have on your hands and it has everything to do with how invested you want to be with your own experience with the game.

There's only one other person here at OS that I think is older than me (j/k) and he's 50, and he has also commented in favor of the return of these "very small" missing features.
I'm the same age, but I've never used these feature as long as I've been playing Madden. I do support those that do though, because if something was left out for me with the game for the game I play, I'd be upset too, but not sure for how long.

I'm in my 50's, I edit rosters, I won't buy Madden without editing capabilities, and I didn't find his statement to be either insulting or generic. It's probably very close to the reality, c'mon now. It's a kid's occupation, let's face it.

Everyone is getting so damn old waiting for an elite Madden. We need that 10/10 madden to be created and to launch ASAP.

Agreed.......I feel like next gen Madden has been a complete Frankestein like effort and it lacked direction. I hope someday someone takes over at EA that has great vision and takes both NCAA and Madden in a better direction than its gone the past 6 or 7 years. I think the standards at EA with NCAA and Madden have been terrible and way too many things just slip through the cracks or just get completely ignored and end up in the game. The NCAA import from last year is a great example of how low the standards have been IMO.

Yeah this gen of Madden has been mediocre at best. Simple as that. I do, however, think they are going in a good direction right now. Focusing on career modes and gameplay. I think they really just did not realize how important those features they took out were. That's why Looman called them "little things". He just did not know. Hopefully he puts all that stuff in next year along with some new things and we get that great madden before all the new consoles launch. (this may be me wishing because this would delay me from having to buy a new console). We shall see friends.

Truly the "...too much time on our hands" comment was another big contradiction thrown at us who want our beloved editing features back. Why? Because the time it's going to take to do thousands of practice sessions for XP points that you "hope" are going to allow your players to progress properly, it will take exponentially longer to achieve results compared to just having a full, quick edit option and/or sharing other edited rosters to use in-season.

If they ever got

Improved Running/Momentum(End of Zig-Zagging)
Realistic and Dynamic OL/DL/Pocket Play

Plus add Back what we lost this year in CC Mode and Id be doing this come Football Season

Looman seemed to know how important they were last year when he was talking up allowing ratings editing in franchise tho

In the grand scheme of everything involved in a franchise-esque mode though, it really is a "little thing". Obviously it's a different level of priority for everyone but when you're building a new franchise mode from the ground up I think he was absolutely correct when he said they had things that were much higher priority.

I think you underestimate ' the masses' as you call them whose voice isn't heard on here, my guess is like all consumers they want a quality product and are just as frustated with Madden as we are hence the falling sales figures over this gen.
I'd also guess that some would and some wouldn't care about these things the same as the people on here

Not only that...but out of all my friends who play madden....at least 30 people..... I am the only one who starts a franchise and plays the game that way. All of the rest of them just play single games. People dont have interest or time to edit rosters. Unless you are a 15 year old kid...no one does. People have families and jobs.

I think you overestimate the impact of this.
I'm 51 and resent your insinuation and if you want to see the noise over this go visit loomans twitter timeline or other sites and forums

In all my years of playing madden I never adjust player ratings. But I do want this feature in. For example. Last year the bills (my fav team) ran a 3-4 defense. I hate the 3-4 defense. So I rearranged the depth chart to reflect the 4-3 defense I was running using my custom playbook (also taken out) and instead of just moving the players to the spot I wanted them to play I change their position to reflect at positions I needed them to play. Now I can't do any of that and it will be very frustrating. I hope they get this Ina patch or something ... Come on Ea

Yes position changes at least those that were allowed in the early PS2 games like OLB 2 DE,DBs,OL,DL etc are a must

@SA1NT yes everyone wants options. poll those same people and ask if they would want editing in exchange for rtp or many other improvements that would take similar resources to editing to implement, i would bet you would see similar results for editing being left out

My .02
Not many people are going to say no to more options. Out of that 95% that would take it as an option I'm willing to bet a good chunk of them would say it being in or not isn't that huge of a deal to them.

Comparing editing to RTP is ridiculous. 2 different teams work on those so its not like if they left in editing.....we wouldnt get RTP. A better comparison is twitter feeds vs. editing. The CCM team thought that adding twitter feeds was more important than implementing editing. They thought that twitter feeds were a more valuable addition.

Lets say you're "good chunk" is 65% of that 95%. That still leaves 30% of people who are furious they left out editing. Is it really smart for EA to leave anger 30% of its potential buyers?
