Madden NFL 13 News Post

While most of the Madden NFL 13 news out of E3 seems to be positive, we now have something that could turn into a very big issue. Especially if you enjoy roster editing or use edited rosters created by others.

There seemed to be some confusion about edited rosters. More specifically, if edited rosters could be used in Connected Careers Mode.

I sent a few messages to Justin Dewiel, Community Manager at EA Sports earlier this afternoon and received the following responses.

Quote:
You can edit rosters outside of CC. But you can’t bring them into CC.

If you start a new CCM career after one of Donny Moore’s releases you can start with that new roster.

Basically, we have to rely on Donny Moore's roster updates, throughout the season, instead of grabbing updated rosters from the many talented roster editors out there, or simply editing on our own.

Jean Adams, Art Director for Madden NFL 13, mentioned the following, in his presentation blog, which was posted in late April.

Quote:
Mixing and matching the new NIKE uniforms, cleats, face masks, sleeves and other yet to be released gear will keep me and many gamers out there in edit player for hours.

Hmmm. I somehow doubt many gamers will be playing around much in edit player, if we can't use the edits in anything other than a Play Now session.

Josh Looman, Madden NFL 13 Senior Designer mentioned on Twitter the following glimmer of hope.

Quote:
We just ran out of time. It will be in there at some point in the future.

Does he mean Madden NFL 14 or could the Madden NFL 13 team add the editing ability in a Title Update or fix the issue before its August 28th release date? I think I speak for everyone, when I say the sooner, the better.

I went in February -- I couldn't make the event in May.

Roster editing wasn't brought up back then b/c so much of the mode was still "fluid"...as in they were still doing a lot of work to it. I don't think it dawned on any of us then that there would be no 'edit' player.

Yes this has been confirmed a few times now. The lack of editing affects the control of players and team control, not the fundamental game play.

If you guys really want to make your voices heard, you're going to need to do a lot more than complain (and promptly get blocked) on Twitter. It's going to take letting other Madden players who DON'T frequent sites like this or aren't chomping at the bit for any E3 info about the game know about what's been left out. If it's really as big of an issue to the community outside of this über-serious demographic then the cause to get editing in will gain momentum. But really, gotta be more creative and professional about it than whiney Twitter posts (yes, I realize I'm generalizing and am sure some people have made mild-mannered and respectful comments but I'm afraid at this point even those get lost in the shuffle due to the "hate tweets" they are surely getting)
I would suggest someone sending an email to IGN, gamespot, or any other major videogame website. They have more traffic coming to their website than OS by far.

I was already out when they said in NCAA draft class import. This is just more of a kick to the face for those who used to love this series. Oh well, I'll keep my 60 bones. Borderlands 2 (PC) here I come.

why couldnt they have just kept a separate "franchise mode" like they have had every other year in addition to CC etc, to keep the hundreds of thousands of loyal madden customers who play exclusively offline franchise happy

Thankfully not a big issue for me. Just hope the game play is there.

I am going to repost this DIRECT QUOTE FROM EA back in April. I didn't think this would hit 28 pages in a little over 10 hours but I posted this already...

By popular demand! Here are some of the new facemasks that have been added to the game...

Mixing and matching the new NIKE uniforms, cleats, face masks, sleeves and other yet to be released gear will keep me and many gamers out there in edit player for hours.

This announcement really made me stop and look at all the things we still don't have with Madden that we had last generation. Custom camera's,stadium music, and celebrations were some of them. Hard to believe that other then online features(wasn't popular back then) last generation had more features in their game. This is EA's 8th xbox 360 release!
Nope, the SimStandard has nothing but praise. They mention nothing about the missing features. To be fair though, they really only care about on the field action so they probably don't even care about Connected Careers, or anything unrelated to gameplay.

I'm really not understanding this- Offline franchise is exactly the same, its just called CCM now. There is no difference, they could have left "Offline franchise" outside of CCM and it still wouldn't have changed a thing in terms of the new features and removal of some.

No, you have it all wrong. I am wondering if custom sliders can be used in offline CC or if anybody has any news on this.

Will the custom slider feature be in CC or missing along with player edits?

2K5? Their editing feature wasn't something to be proud of -- at least not in their franchise mode. Sure, you could edit rookie ratings. But the veteran players couldn't be touched.

I remember using Finn's editor from 08-09; I'd go to my mom's house b/c the laptop I had at home was incompatible w/ the editor. I didn't live far from my folks, but far enough that it was out the way. Anyway, I recall getting home after downloading a franchise file and after booting up, I'd realize that I didn't fix Jason Witten's arm sleeves, or I didn't give Marion Barber his dreads. It couldn't be fixed without going back to my mom's and adjusting the file, and then going back home only to realize another player slipped through the cracks.

All said, I loved franchise in 2K5. Maybe that's a dose of reality that I need. I hate going backwards and not having editing capabilities in M13, but franchise can still be enjoyed. Meh...

That's not true. They weren't invited to CD b/c they offer 'nothing but praise.'

That's said about everybody that comes back from CD. Everybody.

and btw, I was referring to their reaction to Madden 13 gameplay, not previous editions.

Over Ray Lewis? Ok.

all you have to do is play the NCAA demo to see that equipment on non licensed players changes every time...and it isn't pretty. McCarren or whatever the qb's name for Alabama is constantly has on a rb robot facemask and horrible accessories.

I know they aren't the same game but this is the same thing that happens to Madden generated rookies and we won't be able to do ANYTHING to change it.

You and Roadman are taking what I say out of context. I sub to the SS, and have been one of the most outspoken people about Madden's gameplay issues...Azure may care about CC, but what about the rest (Moody, Brosales, Apex)... how many vids do they do on franchise, mut, online? The overwhelming majority of their vids deal with gameplay. That is all I was saying. It's understandable that they didn't know about the missing features (I'm certain they do now), but that isn't the channels main purpose... their main focus is on the field.
The sim standard mission statement.

The fact that this thread jumped to 30 pages in just under 16 hours should tell Looman that this isn't just a "small issue."

No knock to GameChangers and Community Day attendees, but this is exactly why I dont trust their previews or initial impressions. Ive been to a few CDs and its very difficult to see through all the presentations and the excitement of playing a new game. Its hard to remember or even think of key questions like Editing when you are looking at the new features. Also there is no guarantee that the developers will give you a straight answer.

CC is franchise mode. It's unreasonable IMO to think they should have included two separate franchise modes. A more relevent question would be why didn't they include some sort of single season mode, without all the franchise stuff? That way one could still edit rosters and use them offline in some capacity other than play now mode. Because nobody will waste their time editing rosters for play now mode, that's just insulting.
