Anyway, the commentary in Madden 13 is brand new, and the technology running the commentary is brand new, nothing is recycled from last year. That hasn't been the case with Madden commentary on any current gen game.
Yeah I recall them actually saying the new audio technology was not used in Madden 12

Like I said before, GAMEPLAY commentary left me unimpressed, hopefully June 4th things change.
I'd like to see more than 10 second clips of gameplay commentary from different games. The point he was making with the pregame commentary is how much of an improvement we saw in the new video and that you can probably expect the same kind of improvements with the in game commentary too. Madden 13 has 82 hours and 9,000 lines of brand new commentary, I'm not worried about it getting repetitive any time soon. We've heard about 8 minutes tops so far, that's about 1/100th of the commentary.

I'm just saying you guys are making all these assumptions and it's what May? Most years we would never have even seen this much of a Madden game this early into development. I will start to worry if we are still having this discussion in late June/early July after seeing videos of the commentary.

If what I heard in the podcast that I posted is true, none of this stuff will be an issue. They talked about how they recorded several different reactions for plays(ints, tds, fumbles, long pass plays, sacks, etc..) and their emotional response will also be reflected by the magnitude of the game. I.E. bigger emotion in rivalry, snf, mnf, Playoff games, and the Super Bowl.

That is not a very good representation of the game, commentary wise...early state or not. I'm sure I could've edited that video enough to make it come across better by selecting certain audio clips and situations.....again even if it were an early build.
But we already know they don't read off scripts. They write down what they want them to say, but then the audio designer noted, they always improvised and used there own words. No point in creating unwarranted speculation to things we already know.

This is true they said 99% of the commentary is unscripted

again, if they showed them a drive that was pre-scripted (the plays on the field) by the dev team and let Jim and Phill commentate on that drive...it would come off as more realistic. They wouldn't know when a big play is going to happen and would react genuinely.

sure, they are not in a huge stadium and it is obviously a videogame...but I think the audio people in charge could have a setup that would make it easier for Jim and Phil to feel the situation.
They did pump real crowd noise into their headsets, but I know what you are saying.

besides that, I'm still getting the game because I enjoyed Madden 12....first Madden I've enjoyed in a long time.
Ok, I see what you mean now. Not scripted lines but scripted plays on the field. I agree with you on that! Not sure why they don't show a real NFL game for them to broadcast to. Would probably be a lot easier and have their emotions into it more.

Big huge difference DJ.

We didn't have EA's marketing team label "Monumental" change to the way you play Madden and circle a date on the calendar with a reveal of June 4th.

I'm completely satisfied with the commentary after hearing the podcast from today. It is a HUGE improvement over last year.

Is there going to be a place where I can listen to this podcast?

Don't know about you guys but I can't stand Jim Nantz. I love Gus Johnson, but I will admit, the producers didn't give him enough of what he could do...if that makes sense.

Why not go with Kevin Harlan and somebody else? Kevin does a great job on NBA 2k12 and he would be great on Madden. Plus why can't we have a CBS or FOX presentation? Does anyone remember NCAA Basketball 10 and their presentation? I think Madden could pull something off like that for 14.

Kevin Harlan doesn't do nfl games on tv that's why, not to mention he probably wouldn't have enough time since he does real NBA and NBA2k already. Nantz and Simms are a real broadcast team and have been working together longer than any other nfl commentary duo.

He announces NFL games with Solomon Wilcots on CBS.

He did a few bills games last year. Madden doesn't have the same commentating technology that 2k has (I bileive). So even if he was in it wouldn't sound the same. If the technology is outdated the commentary will be terrible, no matter what game it is.

# 297 Smoke6 @ 05/20/12 12:28 AM
I cant hate too much on what they're doing for commentary, but it would be off the hook if it was done like we see it throughout the NFL season on Sunday's.

You know, a different set of announcers for monday night games, sunday games on different networks and have an NFL REDZONE type of thing to recap the weeks games especially for franchise modes!

I really dig the cutscenes of the crowds...i even seen some of the fans with self-shadowing too! Nice ..nice detail..this is what i like to see..attention to detail to these little things..it makes a big difference in the end of it all.

I think the commentary is good after listening to it a few times..and i am sure they are adjusting it and tweaking it even more.. i expect it to be 10x better than last year and to me..it already is. Gus just sounded way off and tooo over the top when madden12 overall just didnt match that flow of Gus, honest i always thought Gus was a terrible choice..not sure why..but these two new guys simms and nantz will get the job done finally.

Madden has a new commentary engine for Madden 13, not outdated, and completely new commentary lines, over 82 hours.

The in-game commentary examples in the podcast for a first year were pretty impressive to me. You have your opinion, but I think the majority of the people who have heard the newer samples were at least somewhat impressed and felt like it is solid. It's a HUGE improvement over what we have had and doesn't take away from the game and I find it pretty immersive from what I'm hearing, but to each his own.

People keep talking about Kevin Harlan, but NBA 2k has had him doing the play by play since NBA 2k6, so that's comparing apples to oranges. Year one of Jim Nantz vs year six of Kevin Harlan. A better comparison is Kerr vs Simms and from what we've heard Simms sounds just like he does in real life, so I'd say Madden is right there with 2k when it comes to comparing the color commentators.
