Like I said before, GAMEPLAY commentary left me unimpressed, hopefully June 4th things change.
I'd like to see more than 10 second clips of gameplay commentary from different games. The point he was making with the pregame commentary is how much of an improvement we saw in the new video and that you can probably expect the same kind of improvements with the in game commentary too. Madden 13 has 82 hours and 9,000 lines of brand new commentary, I'm not worried about it getting repetitive any time soon. We've heard about 8 minutes tops so far, that's about 1/100th of the commentary.

It just seems like some of the people in charge STILL don't get it.

I knew something would be wrong when they were showing Jim Nantz and Phil reading from sheets of paper a couple of weeks back.

if there is a particular line they want them to say WHY DON'T THEY just recreate that particular play in Madden for them to see, and they can just comment on the fly...it would sound SO MUCH MORE Natural.

The part where there was an INT, Jim just sounded so robotic...so scripted. If they recreated that play in Madden for him (and I'm sure the programers can)...then he would probably sound more excited or surprised. "OH AND ITS INTERCEPTED!" O_O

when you are just reading from a script, it shows. I know Jim and Phil don't have all day to be at the studios, but that is where the programers need to do the dirty work and create a set of plays in the game that are queued up by a press of a button...and the director can push that button and Jim and Phil can watch the play live and react on the fly...if they mess up, re-record.

I know Phil's color commentary would still need to be scripted....as well as some parts from Jim but for game changing plays they need to show more believable emotion.

heck even Phil could let out a "OOOOOHHHH" when an INT happens, while Jim is also reacting as well.

I think the UFC devs did this well, with Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg's reactions where there are KO's in their games. Mike is doing his normal commentary, THEN ALL THE SUDDEN there is a "OOOOOOOH" from both commentators. as someone goes down or is hit hard.

Actually, I DO understand how it works. You misunderstood what I was saying. I KNOW they didn't put the new technology in Madden 12. What I was saying was, they did not add any new commentary technology to Madden 12 because they were still working on the "new" technology. That was the excuse last year as to why the commentary and audio was so horrid. However, now that is being contradicted by saying "they started from scratch for M13". Why would you be starting from scratch? This is what I meant when I said they did nothing for Madden 12. Does that mean they did NO work on audio during that cycle? In fact, it seems like they haven't done a thing in over 2 years until the M13 cycle. What happened to all of the work that the sound developers were putting into the "new" technology during Madden 12's cycle? It's always the same story with them. So frustrating...

I'm just saying you guys are making all these assumptions and it's what May? Most years we would never have even seen this much of a Madden game this early into development. I will start to worry if we are still having this discussion in late June/early July after seeing videos of the commentary.

If what I heard in the podcast that I posted is true, none of this stuff will be an issue. They talked about how they recorded several different reactions for plays(ints, tds, fumbles, long pass plays, sacks, etc..) and their emotional response will also be reflected by the magnitude of the game. I.E. bigger emotion in rivalry, snf, mnf, Playoff games, and the Super Bowl.

sounds good but I don't know how authentic the emotions would sound if they indeed still read off a script, besides I don't think they should be surprised by the reaction that video clip would cause.....

That is not a very good representation of the game, commentary wise...early state or not. I'm sure I could've edited that video enough to make it come across better by selecting certain audio clips and situations.....again even if it were an early build.

But we already know they don't read off scripts. They write down what they want them to say, but then the audio designer noted, they always improvised and used there own words. No point in creating unwarranted speculation to things we already know.

This is true they said 99% of the commentary is unscripted
