This guy is a good interviewer.

Audio Designer said they listened to the top commentary games.

exactly my thoughts. if nothing else, the game looks like it'll be enjoyable for awhile. and that's more than i can say for the rest of this gen's maddens.

3 points for graphics, 1 point for the passable commentary, and a half point for the boxart. I can give no further points since the all over the place gameplay would ruin it anyway.

Re: Madden NFL 13 Video - Gameplay With Jim Nantz and Phil Simms In-Game Commentary

I just saw this podcast and was very disappointed with what I saw at the 18:45 min mark. Had to comment- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNCsrTjYLVI

Once again, just my personal opinion, don't mean to step on anybody's toe's or tear down their game.

19:19- Simm's voice is much louder then nantz was and sounds like different compression settings were used too(much more dynamic). Might not notice on a laptop, but my studio monitors exploited it with ease. Anyway, minor I guess, but should be adjusted
19;19-Also, should have showed Simm's talking briefly before it left the studio and faded down to field
19:37-should have faded back into the booth as Nance starts talking again. To long time shown on field when they have only begun to show the broadcasters in the booth and they are still talking. Makes me start wondering where the guys in the both went to, and can't help but think they have to appear again at some point....right????
20:08-Since we didn't get to see the rest, lets just assume that is the end of the booth/pre game/ and game starts. This is actually when the guys in the booth should have said a line that threw it back to the field and then the camera fade to the field again (for last time)to show for kickoff or whatever they were starting to do towards video end.

At least cut to the guys in the booth twice during pregame!! Its so incomplete!

Honestly, I am sorry but this is not great audio video presentation. I know many of you probably think I am just being critical, but I am really speaking the truth on this. It isn't done right, and neither are the cut scenes. watch any NFL game. They will never introduce the guys in the booth(only one says a line to boot), and near instantly throw it down to the field(Simm's doesn't even get to speak!) and then wait so long to come back to the booth while showing unimportant unrelated footage what seams like forever. It should have briefly showed the field for a bit (on something relevant to their comments) and gone back to the booth. After the guys say their little pregame speeches, then it goes back down to the field for the game kickoff or whatever. For all I care, at this point they don't have to show the guys in the booth until the end of every quarter, but at least finish the opening scene correctly. Personally I would cut to the guys in the booth every once in a while after some kickoffs,timeouts,etc.....just like real TV. Tapping A could always skip it and they could finish the short conversation during play calling screen, huddle, and even into next play,etc...

Like i said, if they nail this presentation I will be the first to come on here and say how great they are. I don't see it. I can understand some of you guys who aren't into actually doing this stuff might not see what is wrong, but i can tell you this is going to get stale fast. It looks like random scenes thrown together with no plan in place, no vision. Someone on the EA audio dev team needs better vision. he needs to know what he wants to do and execute it realistically. I think they have too many departments that have their own vision and nobody laying out the detailed script for all devisions of the team to follow. Like I said, it looks very random and thrown together. Some good cut scenes and commentary there, but it doesn't flow at all. It isn't pieced together with team VISION.

I wonder if they added any replay commentary this year. I have always felt this was lacking. During a replay Simms could break what went right or wrong. Most times you get either silence or just the end of the play commentary

Wow, you were able to sum up EXACTLY how I see it. It's the same thing with the cut scenes when they tried to match the presentation of the ESPN style. The cut scenes were added, but the context was all wrong and you had them happening where they didn't make any sense or have any flow or continuity with the actual game. At this point when it comes to commentary, I would like it to really fool you into believing it's real. The guys are broadcasting live and really give that organic feel to their commentary. It's still not put together to the point where it really works.

I am really hoping at 19:19 that it skipped ahead of the pregame. that would explain a lot. Based on what we have to judge on, it indeed has no flow.

I will say this, I love the booth idea it could be incredible. EA is on to something here, and I do applaud them for bringing this idea to their game. Hopefully they can execute it right, because if they don't it's just another forgotten feature in the future, and that is too bad.

I understand what you are saying, but people usually criticize EA for adding "fluff" in the pregame and saying it lasts too long and to just get you to the game. I personally enjoy the broadcast elements, but at the same time do you really want to have to sit and listen to nantz and simms in the booth for 3-5 minutes before the game? I like the way they did it in these videos I think it's a pretty good 1-2 minute segment and it's to the point and you don't feel like you have to wait forever for the game to start. This is the first video game we have seen to show onscreen commentary at this level, so keep that in mind too. I do agree that we should see both Nantz and Simms talking onscreen though.

Now this is interesting, pregame segment in Madden 13 is actually longer than this. They will never introduce the guys in the booth(only one says a line to boot), and near instantly throw it down to the field(Simm's doesn't even get to speak!)
