I'm kind of confused because I don't understand why they would showcase such underwhelming content.

I expect the final game to be a significant improvement over this for sure.

But if you're trying to show off your improved audio, why give us THIS? Poor commentary syncing, no crowd noise, no player names?

Honestly, I don't really feel like they're showcasing it. I don't believe any of these clips were used in the Audio playbook livestream and the ones they did show sounded very well put together. They didn't upload it. There's no traditional EA sports beginning.

I get the feeling that this is one of those things that was created very early on to send to places like OS to run in correlation with the Audio release and is by now, of course, well outdated. It's become fairly obvious that they want to show us as little as possible leading up until June 4th and it's affecting their ability to showcase other features because of it.

I think its their way of opening up to us. Honestly, I'd love to see a vlog of what goes on behind the scenes. Let us see how much work goes in -- maybe record the CD days and release them once all the info is out.

Not to be nit picky and I know its alpha but that just doesn't look like NFL football.. Lets start from the beginning with the guy downing the kick.. WOW how fast did he go to a knee.. it just looked horrible.

The commentary was bland and it just seems unexcited. I don't know man sigh I just don't get it.
I've heard from a couple of the community guys on this and they said they definitely say the player and team names now. The video we saw was probably made sometime in February since we see V-Jax on the Chargers still. I've heard the commentary is great this year and the best by far since Al Michaels and John Madden.

Not nearly enough emotion. Very aware it's a recording of a commentator trying to emulate the game he's commentating on. Very stale. But they gotta start somewhere.

True, but back in the day, I did like them, just like I liked Summerall as well.

Commentary is boring and too canned, it's still sounds like they recorded on different days....

What is missing is three man commentary and sideline commentary like on Monday Night Football...

And on SUNDAY NFL on ABC!!!

Not sure why they think that putting animated characters in the booth does, when they still sound plain and robotic. There is still too much of a gap in sentences and sometimes just complete silence...it's football, there has never been such silence during pre-game or in game..

It has been reported throughout the thread what they gave OS/Pasta Padre was an old mix. V-Jax is still on the Chargers, etc.....

Hopefully, by E3 it will be straightened out.

Yeah I haven't heard shop or the other guys at community days say commentary was sore spot and Shop is pretty big on commentary. He did say that he heard player and team names while he was playing, but he believes it will be even better once the rosters are finalized, they are still working on this, which does effect the commentary greatly.

Here's one tweet from a guy who's been very critical of Madden in the past and he's not a game changer, was invited to community day as a Madden critic.

Sim ‏ @SimFBallCritic
A lot of complaints about Phil Simms not talking on screen in the webcast, but is that really a big deal?

Scott O'Gallagher ‏ @ScottOGallagher
@SimFBallCritic there shouldn't be. It's the best commentary we've had in Madden football since Madden&Michaels period.sounds great.

I cannot stress enough to people to go and watch the intros from the livestream and then compare them to the one in that video. They are completely different and sound much better.

Intro 1 - Giants at 49ers 18:50
Intro 2 - Packers at Steelers 23:50

Madden NFL 13 Audio Webcast

Yeah just to put a number on it I'd score the eagles intro about a 5-6 and these are probably an 8-8.5

I really dont know what to say. It's early, so Ill wait and see if this gets better, but my initial reaction to listening to the new commentary is: meh. There are still very generic statements and akward silences throughout these clips. It's really hard to enjoy this level of quality after listening to other stellar sounding sports games like Fifa, MLB and NBA2K. Those one sound like a real broadcast. They use player names and proper inflection that match the moment to moment action on the field. It seems like this generation of Madden is not capable of delivering an authentic broadcast sounding game. The Radio guy was a bad idea in 06. Tom Hammond put us to sleep in 08. Cris and Gus sounded like they broadcast 2 different games at once. All in all, this generation of Madden has sounded so bland, generic, disjointed and repetitive. I really hope EA can improve upon this short early sneak peak.

EA, if you're listening, you need to:
1) Use player names and team names ALL the time. Not "he" or "they".
2) Make it dynamic. I dont wanna hear the same shpiel everytime the Eagles meet a division rival. It's too generic and canned.
3) No awkward pauses.
4) Talk about the progression of the game. Who's done what. What were the big plays? What's happening around the league? What has the team done recent? Playoff implications? Key injuries. etc. etc. etc.

The best part was when you made a big play right after that and the controller vibration would tone down and the routes would become less shaky. It was awesome.
Yea when you're breaking away with a RB or WR itd be awesome for the camera to shake around and make it more intense

As far as #1 goes, a poster brought up a post from one of the Sound Designers mentioning that they prefer "he" vs jersey number. As the poster above said, the CD folks heard the names, so, they played a much more recent build that what you saw.

What we see hear was an old mix.

Yeah we haven't heard anything near a recent build, they were playing with RG3 on the redskins at community day. This is showing Roy Williams on the Bears and V-Jax on SD. I know we have heard it's an old build before and the end result ends up being similar, but remember guys this is the first year they are working with new commentary technology since probably the PS2 and that means starting from ground zero and adding to and improving it every day. Not only that, but the difference in this video and the pregame intro videos we saw in the webcast Monday is pretty great.

Now if we see E3 gameplay videos and the commentary still sounds robotic, static, scripted, and dull then we will have a problem. Until then I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic about the commentary this year.

Hoping that this year at E3 we can hear the commentary. Last year it was all but drowned out by the blaring background music.

I think once E3 hits and they get their big reveal out of the way we'll get some videos that we should have gotten during the Audio Playbook with Nantz and Simms over gameplay.

Yeah i hope so, come to think of it, one of the audio developers mentioned in another thread to stay tuned for updates on the audio. Maybe some fresh vids coming soon or after June 4th reveal.
