yeah...the "body rotation" issue is really starting to stand out to me and is really hurting the defensive control for me...it seems to mostly be a problem when controlling an off-ball defender. It's like the game doesn't know where to make him face because it can't figure out if he's trying to guard the ball handler or someone else...but they way i see it is - he should always be facing the ball handler...even if he's not "assigned" as the primary defender of the ball handler.

i'll be controlling an off-ball defender and suddenly he will rotate his body around from the ball handler and stop facing him for no reason...it's really bothering me. The defender I'm controlling is just always randomly rotating his body around like the damn tasmanian devil. It makes it hard to move around and change direction because he's always spinning on his own to face a different direction.

What I liked about 2k11 was that when you controlled an off-ball defender he consistently always faced the ball handler no matter how close or far away the ball handler was (UNLESS you held down turbo or L2 for intense D)...this made the locomotion more consistent and controllable because if you wanted to move him, he wouldn't have to completely rotate his body in another direction before moving....now in 2k12, my defender keeps rotating his body around in random directions as i move across the court...makes the defensive control feel very "spastic"...this is a step back from 2k11...a shame.

Yeah, makes it a chore to get around screens, or defend a moving jumper for thst matter...

Hopefully its a demo thing, I keep hearing its noticably sluggish compared to retail.....I can only hope...

Hey, 24th...man...this body rotation issue on defense may be a major issue. I was just playing the demo again and it's getting worse the more i pay attention to it. at one point, i was on defense...lebron started to drive so i took control of Tyson Chandler to cut him off...but when i took control of Chandler, Chandler turned his body completely away from Lebron..totally turned his back to Lebron as Lebron was driving toward him...how did this issue get into 2k12, and how did it make it this far into the dev cycle to be in the demo? I pray it's fixed in the retail, but i'm not optimistic because someone on the dev team should've caught it and fixed it from the beginning.

bottom line...whenever you are controlling a defender (whether is on-ball or an off-ball defender) he should always keep his body rotated so that his chest is facing the ball handler. 2k11 was consistent with this and did it well...what happened?

I believe they put that in to give the user an option to play the offensive player to drive to either the left or the right of the court. So if your playing a left handed dribble you want to force him right. Also give the option to force the ball handler to the strong side of the defensive.

Just my guess.

Also I don't know if anyone has notice but D. Wade is the only one that banks those mid range jumpers in for the Heat similar to how he does it in real life. Nice touch.

Good point but if that's the case I would like to know what causes the player to shade to one side. Becuase I know where Blue is coming from and it definitely does make playing on Balll D a chore...

EDIT: Just read through the defense insight again and it looks we are going to have to learn how to play D all over again. Its nothing like last year at all much more indepth so we as the user really have to know what we are doing.

Seems like this year the CPU isn't going to be "holding" our hands we really gon have to practice again to master this system. Reminds a lot of Live 10 now. At first defense seemed annoying and a hassle but if you took the time to practice it became a lot of fun and very rewarding.

Agree. Every now and then I see something so great...and I'm thinking "wait, wait, let me go to replay, let me see it again"..... but it's gone.

I can't get enough of this demo.
My thoughts aren't worth much because I haven't played a basketball game since the SNES days.
But I love this game. I love the animations, the different feel for the various sizes and skill sets for each guy.
Shooting 3's with Dirk feels awesome as does slashing with Wade or Lebron.

I can't wait to get my hands on the retail version!

Check the Heat/ Knicks vids below...

either that guy has mastered defense in his short time with the game, or the issue didnt make it to the final. I dont see one glimpse of the issue from the user...

I feel a heck of a lot "netter"

sorry, but i just don't see any justification for this issue. there's no reason for a defender to randomly rotate and turn away from the ball handler as he's driving at him. it's like a lack of awareness thing or something...like the defenders aren't aware of what the ball handler is doing or even aware when he's driving right in front of them.

i'm still seeing it in the heat/knicks video...at the 1:12 mark...the Miami ball handler starts to drive...but the Knicks defender turns away from him and does this awkward sideways stance before finally turning to face the ball handler.

I thought the ps3 version of the game looked pretty good this year, but after comparing them on the lens of truth site the 360 version is way better. Why does the port to ps3 come out so noticeably sub par.

once again like i said about trying to block lebron when in perfect position and the defender just put his hand up instead of jumping. its like it was coded that you couldnt block him. almost like, instead of making lbj that much better, they just dumbed down the defender.

there is no excuse. other than its and early build. and at this point its to many odd things in gameplay to use the early build excuse, every single time. to hear some people tell it, it would make you think 2k is only 4-5 months into development of the game. idk what to believe, the apologists or my own eyes.

Whats Up Forums

So the demo for me was loads of fun, the contact and physics along with the removal of canned or suction animations was really the best part of the game for me, it was so smooth it really looked authentic. I really felt like I could do whatever I wanted.

Im excited to have access to the whole Mavs roster when this comes out.

yeah. i agree somewhat...i think the weird body rotation issue with the defensive locomotion is some type of flaw...i don't know if that was intentional. but the inconsistent blocking animations do seem like a deliberate attempt to dumb down the defense to prevent you from being able to contest shots. shame, shame 2k...did you think we wouldn't notice?

Also the cpu actually uses everything in the game this year, from the isomotion, post moves, momentum shots, etc.

I didn't really play the cpu that much in 2k11 so I don't really know if the cpu was already doing most of what I said but from the few games I did play I didn't see it.
The CPU was horrible to play in 2K11. They didn't really use any of the moves that users had available to them. The CPU AI is much improved in 2K12.

Those guys are xbox fanboys or just ignorant... The only meaningful difference is the color palette IF you don't use the PS3 Full range color feature (display settings), which those guys conveniently forgot (their PS3 pics are obviously on "Limited" and maybe made on a bad TV too).

I've got the PS3 version and the picture and colors look exactly like their Xbox pictures, not at all like their PS3 pics.

Once again, all I did is chosing "Full range" setting and using a nice TV set.

What?! If you're telling the truth and not just messing with us, then 2K really has to look into that. That's hilarious, but having glitches in the game that make it look like NBA Jam is simply unacceptable.
