There's a lot of potential here, but it's lost in the glitches. I like the dribble control, but the delayed response hurts the gameplay.. I think Elite may be on to something, but it's not going to be this year. *sigh*

Any one mess with the cameras yet?
I zoomed in the broadcast camera and the players look a lot better. Graphics look a lot sharper when zoomed in.

See, instead of building on last year game, which I thought was pretty great, they went and screw it up, WHY OH WHY. I say when sales are bad again this year, you made your bed now sleep in it.

There are issues with the game but I think some need to relax a bit. One thing the demo does is it shows us how we have to versions of an NBA game, and then how this version does offer some positive concepts. For starters, I like the ball control in Elite. General ball movement comes very naturally. I also like the passing being on the right stick. Once you get the feel for it, the ball movement is clean and responsive.

Where this game continues to be at fault is the ball physics. Shots don't flow, they shoot out of the players hands in very awkward fashion, and when the ball hits the net the ball physics come to an abrupt end. It seems to be a combination of player animation and ball movement where the player doesn't quite fully animate and the ball shoots out of the hands for a pass, making everything look very odd.

Animations too are awkward and not relative to what you would expect. Still, I bet a lot of people are hating on the shot animations simply because the shooting controls are different and are probably being handled wrong. I actually really like the concept of shooting. I like how holding the stick up gives you the sense of follow through power for a dunk and how you can manipulate that by switching to a layup.

Overall the controls are the strength of the demo, but the flow down court and the feeling that everything isn't cohesive and together really leaves much to be desired. The Elite team isn't there yet, but I can see another year under their belts being very positive for this game.

The controls are definitely cool but man there are a lot of rough edges. The biggest turn off for me is the AI and the generic feel of the players and the game in general. Like some of us have said since the videos first came out, this is too much like NCAA BB 10 in that regard.

The AI is pretty bleh, no signature feel and a little too robotic in their offensive execution. Playing the Celtics didn't feel like I was playing the real-life C's. Too many "one pass and a jumper" possessions for the CPU like post-patch Live 10.

I can live with the poor visuals but I can tell that this game will get very old very quickly since offline (vs the cpu) is the mode I use the most.

Is it just me, or am I not getting the demo on 360?

I'm in Australia btw.

I agree on no signature feel. Kobe should stand out more and he just doesn't. Bigger players move slower, that's really the biggest difference. I'm using the Celtics and just don't feel like I'm guarding a star player like Kobe, but that could be difficulty setting.

The AI is rough though, especially on loose balls, where they are just not responsive to go and get it.

This is a good impression.

As I mentioned this last night, it's the auto-sensing now in the game for players on defense. They don't move correctly, body up the wrong players and so forth all because of it. You can't just take off and run in a direction if you need/want to.

And that's completely against the entire mantra this year of control.

The Celtics actually run the same. exact. down screen for Pierce (left to right block in the post) you'd see in 2k's demo. However, because of the movement issues here, it's tough to catch and realize what is going on.

its like auto-strafe is auto when i have the ball. My player is always facing the basket and not the direction he is running and it seems as if turbo is tied into that. When you are going towards the basket turbo is on but other then that the player is in sort of a jogging dribbling animation.

Can this be fixed re or at least if enough people want turbo can it be patched in as an option like on madden?

Wow what a thread of negativity. I've read through all 41 pages and these impressions are quite startling. I was SMH when I saw those videos but I held out hope that the demo would show me something. I will still download the 360 version when I get home. I have not seen enough impressions on that version. Anyone else grab it? Any differences, improvement on look? etc?

BTW, Reanimator, I commend you for your accessibility and providing responses even now amidst the criticsm. It's always a catch 22...being accessible provides us the community with insight we wouldn't ordinarily get but because of this you're the first to take the heat if the product is received poorly.

My honest suggestion to you and the team is to somehow find a way to improve/upgrade your animation library without sacrificing the great controls you've implemented. Not signature stuff specifically but contextual animations. Also basic walking, running, shooting animations to provide more fluidity to player movement. I am not making an outlandsih assumption to say that you guys dont lack for resources.

Again I will try this demo for the 360 version myself to make my own judgments but this feedback is scary...

shoot when i went into overtime with the lakers and they kept feeding kobe the ball and he was killing me it surely felt like i was playing kobe lol

But yea besides some sig shots and the players ability there is not a lot of sig feel or moves but that has always been the case with this series

yea bra try it for yourself and dont let the thread persude you because i really think this is a game some will be able to take and some wont. If you can take the good with the bad then you might like it but if you are real nitpicky and cant excuse things like players having the same animations and so on then this might not be for you

agree with this %1000000...that for me would make all the diff in the world for me

Too much to discuss, so just a short overview for now.

Wow. I've played about 20 games now, gotten somewhat used to the controls (still a ways to go) but wow... I can't believe this game.... in a bad way.

I've been all over these forums so I knew what ti expect. I knew this would be a bit rough around the edges, but I really did not expect this.

I just need to get 3 things off my chest and yell them out loud:
- THE PLAYER MODELS ARE SOOOOO SKINNY
- THE LIGHTING ON THEM IS SOOOO DARK
- PLAYER MOVEMENT IS SO MUCH WORSE THAN I EXPECTED

I'll give a proper write up later, but the most disappointing thing for me is how much of a jump it is from the tutorial to 5 on 5 gameplay. Shoot around by yourself is good, kind of how I was expecting Elite to pan out, but 5 on 5 is just bad as what has been mentioned.

There's some positives (not many) and i'll post all of that after some sleep.

wow

Jumped on the 360 version.

-Went straight to the alternate controls. Much better.

ReAnimator, Is ICON PASSING (LT+RTplus button) any faster in the retail version. The activation of it and the initial pressing takes too long. its basically useless.

-ON ALLSTAR, a hand in the face or not, the CPU scores at will. There is no context to them making or missing.

-LOTS of in the paint ball mrphing THROUGH other players. I can't play D like that. It's wrose than LIVE 10

-anyone finding it hard to gain separation with Kobe against Ray Allen

-CPU teammates leave their man and arent quick enough to realize that they need to rotate back.

I can see the potential on a USER vs. USER front, as there is great control (not enough contact still imo) but a decent amount.. USER vs. CPU players, look away.

EDIT:GASOL was being guarded by RAY ALLEN in the post. I know how to activate the backdown mechanic (push in L stick) but how do you actually back down? I cant back down anyone with my body.

Once you get used to it, I think most opinions will change (except there are always some who would still prefer the old methods). For me, it was an easy transition (no old games baggage). I like it, it feels natural, and I can't imagine going back to the old ways.

whats WRONG WRONG WRONG about Elite:

1. Graphics: I read rEA saying this is Live 10 + improvements. May be graphics SHOULD be better, but they are not. Whatever EA did to it, made it look worse to most people, myself included. I think may be it is the matte finish on the models.

2. Animations: Some stuff looks very weird. The tweening between animations are often awkward. ELite has awesome controls, but no animations to match them.

3. AI: I saw bunching up of players. I saw ineffective, almost silly plays. I saw the way the Defensive AI sticking to me like glue: INSTANTLY reacting to my every action.

4. Frame Rate issues: especially noticable when ball goes out of bounds, and I get to throw the ball back in. Choppy as hell. This is also apparent, but less severe, during many moments in broadcast mode. I ran an AI vs AI match just to be sure.

5. Weird Logic: AI keeps fouling me when I am ahead in the game, and less than a minute is left.

6. Rocket propelled dunks still in the game. Youtube video also proved it.

7. Speed. Run a AI vs AI match in broadcast mode. Watch it, and tell me there is nothing wrong there. Too fast. All the above mentioned AI weirdness are also more apparent.

Conclusion:

The only thing that was right = Controls. Great direction there. It has to change sometime, and when change happens there are bound to be people not used to it. I'm sure Tony Hawk pros couldnt get used to Skate at first either.

But thats the only, VERY RIGHT thing for me.

EVERYTHING else was disappointing. Not necessarily bad, but just highly unpolished. It is especially saddening since I like the controls. If only other parts of the game are better. It is a real shame.
I had the same felling at first as if the ai guarding me knew what i was going to do before i did it. He matched my exact motion but as im getting better with controls i am able to get more separation

Can you explain more on the weird logic. Isnt that what they are pose to do if they are down late in the game with not enough time to make stops and score?

Hmmm ok. Just played 2 quarters of the ps3 version and 2 quarters of the 360 version. And the 360 version Is miles ahead of the ps3 version in looks, control, and gameplay.

But with that said, I just called walmart and cancelled my pre-order for this game even though I am only really going to pay $39 for it. I just don't see this getting any time from me or my 9 year old son this year, as the game just feels wrong.

This year feels like. Huge step back from last year, and feels like this is an arcade game now and not a simulation. My son will stick with live 2010, and I'll stick with the other game because Elite 11 is anything but elite.
