Understand this, I am a long-time gamer who is not a big fan of completely stick-driven controls, so Elite was already on thin ice with me. Nothing about the demo felt comfortable

I really like the controls. Took a little getting used to though. One thing I don't like is players seem to have a rocket up their butt when they jump. It seems they jump a little too quickly. Wished they'd take last years version and give it this years controls and do a little AI tweaking. Don't like the announcers either. I miss Marv Albert. I don't miss the "Czar"

Unfortunately, this is the typical response around here to someone who doesn't care for the game. There are a LOT of people here who have spent a LOT of time learning this game, and still think it's terrible. What's your clever refute to them?

The game took a step back in controls, gameplay, graphics... essentially everything. That is my opinion based on MULTIPLE play-throughs of the demo. You may enjoy it, and that is great, but to the majority of us, this is just NOT a good effort on EA's part... and it has little to nothing to do with amount of time spent or not spent "learning" these so-called complicated controls... and don't fool yourself, they're not that difficult... they're mainly just not that good.

Completely agree with everything you said. I actually deleted the demo after a minute of playing time. Everything about the game just feels and looks horrible: jumping, shooting, rebounding, etc. I'm so disappointed with this game because Live 10 was actually a good game which I purchased last year. NBA Elite has to make a better product to give users an option to play a realistic brand of gaming.

Tried out the demo today

So i was doing the layup tutorial, why is my guy falling over after every layup? There's no turbo or contact with another player, I'm like casually walking up for a layup and falling over. I know its a small nitpick but how can you claim to have real time physics and not have something as simple as momentum.

Skill based shooting IMO is just a gimmick, you wouldn't even know its there if you hadn't see the bar in practice. The only difference between this and that of the other game is that you adjust left or right when you shoot. Ratings still come into play to determine how wide your bar is, and you still have to time your release.

Is there no icon passing?

Perhaps its due to my short time with the demo, but when i try to iso against the cpu, they either get their ankles broken or they stick me tight, shouldn't there an in between?

CPU PG will dribble out most of the clock, it doesn't seem like they know what they are doing

I know that Elite 11 has taken some bad press, but I truly believe that lazy gamers and game reviewers are intimidated by the new controls. Instead of looking at this game with an open mind and try to learn/adapt to the new control scheme.....they bash it because it's not their typical "button mash" game that they are comfortable with.

Regarding shooting (bolded above).....I can't seem to hit a jumper to save my life. LOL. I really hope that the first patch you guys release addresses the sensitivity of the shot stick control.

Once I change the controls to "alternate/Live" my jumpshot shooting skills return but it defeats the purpose of the new control system.

Unfortunately when I shoot in the practice gym, it doesn't seem to translate out in a 5v5 game. Please help!

p.s. any idea if a NBA Elite 11 Strategy Guide is set to release (ala Madden 11)?
Glad to hear you're enjoying yourself.

Shooting in practice mode is generally easier because you have the shot HUD visible, and the shots aren't contested.

In game, many shots will be contested and that reduces the size of the sweet spot.

Try to work more for open looks, and try and set yourself before the shot.

If you have looks like that they should be as easy as practice mode.

Yep.

I have given this demo a chance, but after playing multiple times and hitting 9 threes in a row with Fisher, followed by the same with Bryant ins following games, not to mention how bad the player models look and behave (watch how awkward Gasol looks when he runs up the court) I am so disappointed that I actually need to buy this game just so I can play NBA JAM.

Perhaps this whole bundling JAM with Elite deal on PS3/Xbox is something EA felt they needed to do knowing the game was going to be so underdeveloped upon release. There's a theory...

And as for rEAnimator, I appreciate the fact you're here and contributing to the debate about the pros and cons of the demo, but lets be honest here you're blatantly ignoring to reply on the true criticisms brought up by just about everybody in here.

I for one would like to know if these numerous negative comments are being relayed to your co-workers/superiors and if so what are the responses from that end?

What am I avoiding? I'm not doing it on purpose. Point me to a question you'd like me to answer.

As for your question, the answer is yes. The entire dev team is fully aware of the reaction from OS, as are the higher ups.

Most of the dev team reads OS, especially for demo reactions.

The "higher ups" receive a report that Yaw compiles. I've seen it, and it represents the sentiment here quite accurately.

When does EA's contract end with Synergy?

# 1030 StriderNo9 @ 09/26/10 07:12 PM
I actually liked it. I don't think people are going to get over how different the controls are but its still fun once you get used to it.

Read the title of this thread man... what does it say? NBA ELITE 11 DEMO AVAILABLE, POST IMPRESSIONS HERE.

This isn't a Speak Only Nice Things About EA and Elite thread; this is a place for EVERYONE to discuss why they DO and DON'T like the game. Don't like it? Tough. You're more than welcome to put everyone with a "negative" opinion of the game on your ignore list.

In the meantime, the rest of us will continue to discuss the game as we please. Besides, I could make the same "argument" (and I use that term very loosely in this case) to you; If you LIKE this game so much, then why are you spending your time in here instead of playing it and enjoying it?

I swear... some of you freakin' hypocrites...

We have big man and small man dribble packages and we have special animations for "poor" dribbler's where they lose the ball if you try and perform moves that re beyond their capability.

And as you said, we alter the speed of the dribble moves based on player ratings.

Above and beyond that, there aren't any player specific dribble animations in the game.

While I'm in here, I just wanted to throw this out there:

I've obviously voiced my displeasure about the game, but I gotta give you credit man... you've really stuck it out in here and answered a TON of questions. Elite is not my cup of tea, but obviously you guys work hard, and it has to be rough when the community doesn't love the end product of all your labor.

I really am pulling for you guys for next year. Keep up the hard work.

I think this might need to be tuned some more, Because I was trying to recreate what you did in that quick clip with Bynum losing the ball.

So I passed it to him at mid court brought the ball up with him did a few back to back around the back dribbles and he never lost it.

although the defender did pick me off once I got near one. But I was just expecting him to lose the ball more easily.

Idk what do you guys think???

I haven't really seen evidence of this in the demo thus far.... and I've probably played about 50 games or so (yes, I'm enjoying it now).

I actually have tried intentionally using Bynum and J Oneil (on superstar) and dribbling like a PG maniac, trying to re-create the lost dribble animation. I haven't seen it once. Also created a 7, 2" 290 pound centre in the practice gym and I could still dribble around like a mad man. If the dribble packages/ limitations you mention are in the demo, they're are not tuned strict enough.

Beat me to it. Exactly what I've been trying to do. The only time they lose the ball is when you dribble into a defender.

That's good feedback. I'll be sure to have someone look into it.

I've played the actual demo build 3 or 4 times and I remember seeing it once, but it may very well need to be cranked up.

Now I understand why you guys like sliders so much

Im sorry mr moderator if I offended you on your forum you own but im a fan of basketball first and foremost I dont care about either company personally. In my opinion nba 2k10 was uncontrollable with garbage online, and nba live 10 was garbage in everything but addidas 5 on 5.

I want to see ea sports put all these resources they have to work because whats offered in this demo as far as what was advertised is not up to par with what theyre capable of. This game is so unfinished forget the bugs and glitches make the game fun to play either arcade or sim dont care as I can not feel robbed out of 60 bucks after a purchase. I will also drop a comment whenever i feel like it unless they ban me so again sorry mr operation sports owner and other fake mods.

Definitely crank it up...to me this is one of the main issues that "critics" love to harp on...in fact there is a whole video on youtube with some dude complaining that his 285 lb created PF should not be able to dribble so well and that it is not at all "sim" (as they like to say)...

I think it would add to the strategy too...if I give the ball to Bynum on a fast break I should have to tell myself to lay off of the right stick so that I don't turn the ball over...that would add to the game immensely...

I knew this kind of comment is going to come. Yes, your saying is quite fair. But I see his sentiment. As somebody said, ppl are beating a dead horse now. I think he wanted to say that he is fed up with hearing pretty similar comments from ppl every second after demo was dropped. Maybe we need kind of refreshment.
