i'm seeing a lot of both positive and negative comments here. and things that are in the demo but not really in the retail version. what i really like are the honest impressions we're getting so far of those with the retail version. it kind of pissed me off, but i can definitely see why 2k released the demo so late...

I think that's my overall feeling of the 2K control scheme.

The payoff for executing a well thought out move just isn't there. It's almost as if you must beat the hardwood until you find a crack in the animation sequences (not the defense itself) and attack.

Sorry, I read your post after I posted my impressions. However, I must say that comparisons to Live are valid impressions as well so why are you against it. I think that comparisons would help people on a tight budget decide which one is the right one for them.
If they are on a tight budget, they can play the demo themselves or wait and read impressions about the full versions of both games.

The only negative I can see, is the isomotion. It remains a mystery to me. I am usually pretty good on the sticks but in the demo I cannot seem to pull off any moves. Ill have to take a look to see how.

Other than that the game is great, I had a come from behind swat with Dwight Howard that was just amazing. AI is MUCH improved and the gameplay overall. I really like the the feel of the post it really is a game within the game.

and the AI wow, did i already say that once, they actually play and are not moving around like zombies. This is gonna be one fun game cant wait until next week

vs posts are going to be deleted because the game specific talk needs to stay in its own forums

I have played 2k9 most of this past year and got my 60$ worth. After playing the demo, (whether people say its 2k9.5 or not) I will be putting my money down again and playing the heck out of 2k10. It feels and looks cleaner then last years game. The franchise mode is only behind the show IMO. The facial animations and the detail of each guy is unbelievable. I understand the arguments but Cmon, this game deserves reserving these kinds of helter skelter assumptions until the retail game is in YOUR hands.

I Agree 100%. I Hate Isomotion.

Pared is that help defense slider on default when playing online?

Same here. They need to come up with a better system. I feel like I'm playing a fighting game while trying to perform a simple crossover.

Other than that the game is amazing.

Huge improvement over 2k9, player movement is far more responsive.

Shooting %s are definitely high in general but you can play lock down defense even on this level. I just held the Lakers to 20% shooting, then about 40% the next game.

Alley oops could become an issue but I'm not seeing the AI throw them as much as some people here are, in fact I can't recall a single oop from them yet.

How are the colours bland? That's ridiculous. As beautiful as the other game is, it's far too bright. This looks far more like an actual broadcast. Sorry for the comparison.

I really need to get my hands on the full game. It's too bad they only gave us 1 quarter, not sure why they made that decision.

I don't want anyone to ruin my experience so I think I will retire from the forums for a while. To all the cool osers, Chase, Pared, Al, Da Czar, Switch thank you for all the pics and insights and stuff. I'll probably get back on the forums again after I have played enough b-ball games for while. You guys take care.

Yes, on default, your players move. There's a new feature this year called defensive AI assist. This is set to 50, which I'm pretty sure what you're witnessing.

You can turn it down to 0. I have not seen my player move on their own at that setting.

Take it for what it's worth. It's a feature out of the box this year to help you out
.
I figured that this was the case, but its good to get confirmation. I'm going to save this quote and post it when people cry about their man moving on his own.

I just don't understand why the player I'm controlling on defense is moving on his own. If I play tight on someone my player will literally step back on his own. WTF???!!!

To those who have played 2k demos prior:

Do the demos always seem watered down than the final version? Can I expect the game to be alot better than the demo? I'm reading alot of complaints but positives at the same time. I'm getting the game regardless but just wondering if 2k has taken a step back this year or are people just nit picking?

People were right about the screens not doing this game justice. It really is a looker and some of the models I thought were a little off based on steve's screens (shard and VC) look much more lifelike in game imo. The a.i. is much, much better this year compared to 2k9. wow. It's good to see the cpu use iso-mo effectively in getting to the rim or setting up a j. Spacing is much better as well.

I dislike the lack of options in the demo though(no playcallling, no size up dribble like in DC, no subs, no difficulty, etc.). It really is a bare bones demo-just enough to show you what they improved upon.

But my gripe is with Isomotion. Why do they always have to make it such a mystery? Every year it's like that...I go through hell until I finally get every move down. And just when I thought I could use what I've learned last year, the new game comes and mix it all up all over again. It was the case in 2K8, 2K9 and it's happening again.

I know some people can master it pretty quickly but I believe VC should come up with a more reliable/intuitive system. And I don't think it's a case of the old cliché "easy to learn, hard to master" either...

It really frustrates me to think that somebody might be enjoying the game more than I do because I can't get the hang of some sluggish mechanic.
I think 2K is squeezing Isomotion for every drop it can.

That engine needs to be scraped entirely and built from the ground up.

2K has hit an obvious home run with their commentary and the stadium sounds are close. But its the nagging issues that put the wet blanket on the overall experience...

If Isomotion was tighter, the defensive A.I. reacted in logical fashions, and the shot percentages were more in-line with NBA averages, this game would be a classic...

Bui it's not...so it's a mixed bag for me...

Good call. Hit me up on XBL if you want some good games.

Almost as if it were planned...

One thing that stands out to me the most is that the graphics seem to be a lot sharper compared to 2K9. The controls are not nearly as tight as they should be though. I'm very good with isomotion and can read the defense and respond accordingly, but hopefully the retail version will be better. Honestly, they could've kept this demo to themselves with it being so close to release, but it's ok. Looking forward to playing the full game.

So does playing on defense feel like Draft Combine's "Objective Games" or does if feel like Combine's "Scrimmage Games"? Because you know defense was harder in Objective Games.
