Nice write-up BBallGuru. Can't wait to put my hands on the final game.

Mike or any dev., any chance we can get a feedback on when to release the ball at The Hangar? I know you can release it at different times and still be succefull (don't get me wrong, I still think shooting the rock is the highlight of the package) but I wanted to be able to know the player's prefered sweet spot to release it. I'm having a hard time getting CP3's shot down.

Just did a behind the back pass fake while getting to the rack for a lay up with Kobe at The Hangar (a la Jason Kidd in his rookie season against Sir Charles).

Great animation!

Can't believe I read through this entire thread (PS3 owner)
Few thoughts, This game is sounding/looking more and more like the game I've been waiting on live to make for years, watching videos of the AI attacking the user as if they were controlled by a human is simply amazing. Coming from a person who as owned every Live game (yes even Live 07) it's unimaginable how much it pains me to wait a full week to play this *shake head @ Sony* but I'm staying strong through all the fantastic wright up's in the thread. Thank you guys

I've also notice for the most part, the people who's had bad things to say about this game are almost all newcomers, I found that very strange. Constructive criticism is always a good thing, but simply ripping a game because it doesn't play like another game without giving it a fare chance is unbelievable and should have no part of sim nation. It's as if some don't want there to be 2 good basketball games for people to chose from, they feel threatened by a potentially excellent Live game this year and that boggles my mind.

Anyways, I cant wait till Thursday to get my mitts on this baby, I can tell it's going to be the longest 4 days of this year, at-least the videos and impressions are keeping me entertained. Keep em coming fellas.

I agree. In the end it's a not big deal for me either because I already got used to the system as it is. And Mike said they won't change it, just add a new option as well.

Quick Note Guys,
When your trying to drive and make contact with the defender, don't try to cross in the other direction because the ball will get tipped or stolen every time. Instead pull back on the sticks and attempt your drive again. Took me quite a few turn overs until I figured this out. Works really well.
So in other words, stop trying to force the drive if the defender is in front of you. Especially if he has a body one you. Play smart protect the ball and you will see less turnovers.

1 more thing,
For passes along the perimeter that keep getting stolen. I found it best to control the other player and get some separation from the defender before passing him the rock. This works mainly if you picked up your dribble and/or are stuck in the corner.

Yeah, just a couple things I thought I would share with you all. Hope this helps anyone having trouble with offense.

When I move my player on defense, I want to feel that same sort of momentum and responsiveness that I feel when dribbling...on defense and offball control I want that same ability to do a quick burst of speed or a juke based on my left stick movement.
It's there...... I see no problem with the momentum or the way the player moves when defending the perimeter. They got a nice feel to it. Sliding your feet to stay in front of the defender, having to cut back after biting on a fake. I like it, and think it's fine. I hope I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Oh, and my vote is for leaving the controls as is. Having no problems posting up on the elbow with kobe. I haven't tried backing down at the top of the free throw line yet though.

Great point Raydog... trying to force your way to the rack WILL NOT WORK.I think some people just expect it to happen and get all mad when they can't have a highlight fest. Play real basketball and you will have a blast with this demo

Posting up was clicking the RS in years past...why change it?

I thought the RB in Live 10 was to call a quick play.

I'm in favor of clicking the RS.

Maybe start a poll.

I'm with you on this one. If it has to be done, I would want it to be the right stick.

I'm seeing ALOT of things in this demo, that just brings a smile to my face man.

Although everything does not playout perfectly 'animation wise' I still see basketball IQ that I have never experienced in other bball games.

The authenic playsets, the spacing, the help D, and the atmosphere just screams the NBA game IMO.

I have never felt this challlenged guarding a CPU controlled Kobe in any videogame before, from strictly a fundamental standpoint.

If he is hitting his J, you are completely helpless defending him. I had a game last night where he ran off like 11 straight points on me, all on jumpers and 2 of them 3 pointers.

Even with the issues with the demo ie; sliding is back in the Live series, cpu not intiating the offense correctly at times, lack of tighter defensive controls/options, some strange animations that do not fit the action etc....I'm REALLY trying to temper my excitement for the game after getting a taste of the AI, and it's been very difficult trying to do so.

Well imma call a spade a spade and to be honest I had high hopes for this live after reading and seeing all the info on it. I haven't play a Live game since Melo was on the cover after that all 2k and after playing this demo it will remain all 2k Live still sucks the players look horrible (just look at Kobe he looks like he did a fusion with Derek Fisher) and all these Albino Superstars in the Hanger you can't think that looks good and the gameplay still ********. Live has lost it and they should just let 2k get the exclusive rights to the NBA.

how do you do that ? Is it something you can control as well ? it'd be sick to try and pull off in a game.. (though with the NBA Live 'D' that'd be a sure turnover !)

each to his own i.. but is it so difficult to say you're not feeling NBA Live and leave it at that..? All you've managed to do is sound like one of the million 2k fanboys that have erupted since the Live demo came out..

..oh wait - you are. My bad.

I first started off as a NBA Live fan but made the switch in 07 and I must say I am very excited about Live this year however I must say that I wasn't as impressed with the demo as most who have posted here. For me 2K is still the game of choice but this year I will get both.

# 797 CallMeDrop @ 09/14/09 09:26 AM
I like this demo! I think I like it more for it's differences than trying to compare it to 2K directly. It really did feel like every player was different and it felt like I was watching an NBA game while playing. It's definitely a learning curve with the freestyle passing and some of the ball handling but it's definitely a step in the right direction.

I look forward to the real thing in Oct!

I really like the game but these are some of the things that have not been mentioned"

Open threes after the tip ball (everytime) at the beginning of the game. On the superstar level I get a free three by either the SG or SF at the bottom of the screen. Is this a problem at the beginning of the game...no. This becomes a problem in overtime if I am in one of those games where I can't stop the other team. Whoever wins the tipball gets a free three pointer. Fix this please.

One other thing I do not like is the difficultly level. I don't like the fact that "right now" I can contend at the highest level. When I play on superstar I want to be smashed but not cheesed. I think we should have a difficulty level to strive for.

Just my two cents.......

After the demo, which was a big upgrade over live09, I still don´t find it in any way dominant. So all that hype has been tempered. I still don´t get why some are blinded by the pre-hype. NBA live 10 is a good game, it just wasn´t the super-elite nr 1 game....
I do love the menues though, the flash graphics are really impressive.

I think I´ll buy NHL10, PES and FIFA10 (that´s was one awesome demo right there!) and NBA2k10 and NHL2k10(I buy both hockey games each year)....

I'm lovin' the demo! Played all day Friday, and throughout the weekend. Playing on Superstar level, I had to get out of the mode of playing a video game, and play real basketball, because the AI was killing me! Once I settled down, and started playing ball, games got real competetive. Only saw one blowout (Kobe got hot). The atmosphere and crowd are great! Control is excellent, player movement, and momentum is so good...having a hard time going back to 2k9, or Live 09 (I love both of those games), but Live 10 takes it to another level. The game is so smooth, and the animations are solid, especially the little things, like players fight through pick, and defenders keeping you from falling after they fouled you hard. I love the shooting mechanics, especially how you have to adjust timing of the release off of fadeaways, pullups, floaters, and runners. Dribble mechanics are sweet, tough to master though. Haven't seen a lot of dunks, but I when do get one it's bc I broke defender down, mismatch, or me playing bad defense. Good to seen guys not getting "pushed" out of bounds when they get dunked on. Working the post is slight different than 09...man, I miss the right stick click for back down, but figured out my man automatically starts to back down when defender is on my back, or when I'm in the post. Not used to boxing out and rebounding yet, still working on it, I keep hitting left trigger to box out, instead of Y. The passing game is ill, seen some crazy no look passes, bounce passes, and behind the back stuff, and it all looks natural! The defense is solid so far. At first I was getting burned because I was reaching too much, or at a bad angle, but finally adjusted, where I can beat the offense to the spot, or take a charge with Artest, but AI still tries to use my players momentum to catch me off gaurd. I'm able to time the blocks, and set people up by switching to the weak side help...seen some really good block animations. Blasted Fisher's shott from behind with Dwight. Set up Vince real good, with Artest when he beat Kobe off the screen. Took me a while to get used to the post defense, but like the offense, you push up on offense, to get into a defensive stance. It would be nice to be able to "bump" the ballhandler. I know it's only a demo, but this is the first time I see na bbal game where offense and defense seem balanced, if you play right. Computer plays good ball too. Black Mamba is a beast, you really have to play off of him or he'll take you to the whole, but if you play off, he burn you with the jumper. Rashard Lewis has a nice jumper off the pick. Haven't seen too many hustle plays, but the ones I've seen were pretty cool (Vince diving out of bounds trying to save the ball was nice). I've seen a few put back dunks with Dwight, and only one alley-oop. Player models are great, some of the their complextions seem off in the hanger, but you can easily recognize whose who. While playing game models seem to be ba bit shiny, but it just might be me....no big deal. At first I thought AI was cheating with all the steals they were getting on me, but realized, I was forcing the drive too much, and needed to adjust. Seen some weird things, like the ball spinning when Kobe called time out...and ball hitting the side of the backboard (only happened once), could be me shooting a bad shot...but I'm sure EA can iron that out. I find way better than Live 09, and 2k9. Definitely picking this one up on Oct. 6....Can't wait for the 2k demo to drop to see what they have to offer.
