Thats what the player attribute slider is for, its half way in the demo if that, while I have managed to lose the puck on one too many dekes with an unskilled player it doesn't happen enough at half way. That in combination with lowering both CPU passing and CPU speed should make a huge difference in what the AI decides to do with the puck and how effective on the whole its passing is.
When it comes to 50/50 pucks, you really need to get into a good position and box out the other guy this year as with alot less "suction" its much harder to gain control of a rolling puck. Which to me is great personally.
I understand what you're saying....but even on the demo when the player attribute slider is default halfway, I can still see player differentiation. Much more so than last year. But ZERO differntiation on passing accuracy.
my ONLY worry is about cpu passing for this game....what I'm afraid will happen is even when we max out player attribute slider and zero cpu pass accuracy, the cpu on SS will still pass tape to tape.
I am sure with the attribute slider maxed out, crosby will feel even more different than Brashear in skating, shooting accuracy, shooting power, agility, etc. But will they STILL make passes tape to tape everytime?
I haven't gotten the demo yet (PS3)...what skill level are you playing on? Or don't you have a choice on the demo?
Im playing on All-star mostly sometimes on Superstar. I have noticed this mostly on BE A PRO but also on Battle For The Cup mode. Is it possible that maybe Detroit just plays that style in the game and lets you have the blueline, maybe Ill try playing as Detroit later.
Can somebody explain to me how to shoot loose pucks in front of the net? Most of the time I flat out miss the puck and it can be pretty frustrating when I have a wide open net to shoot at but can't seem to even get a shot off when the puck is right near my stick. Do I have to wait until I get possession? That seems stupid to me as rebounds in real hockey tend to get smacked in - they don't wait until they have full possession and then shoot.
Also there are a few problems with the dump and chase game for me and this applies mostly to BAP where you don't control your teammates. Often times when you dump the puck in your teammates hesitate at the blue line and don't go in on the forecheck leaving the defense to easily regroup and start a breakout making my dump useless.
One way around this I found was to dump it straight ahead behind the net instead of near the sideboards. The only problem was that occasionally when I dump the puck straight ahead from the red line it would sail all the way over the glass on the other side of the rink. At first I thought I was just holding RB too long, but I can't seem to recreate this extremely long flip dump even if I hold RB down for a few seconds. To me it seems completely random which makes it annoying because I have no idea when it's going to happen. I would flip dump it lower but when I do a high flip dump the puck bounces around a lot when it comes back down and it makes it easier to retrieve. If I dump it lower they seem to easily pick it up and I can't effectively forecheck, so I'm forced to do the higher flip dump which occasionally leads to an absurdly powerful flip dump that goes out of play.
One-timers -- I don't know of any tricks to make it work better other than holding Vision Control, next time I play I'll try to be more conscious of what I do and see if there's anything that might help.
Flip dumps -- Hold RB down for less time and you'll get less on the dump in. I'm looking at tuning this so that it goes over the boards less often when it is fully charged up.

I actually was reffering to rebounds in front of the net as opposed to one timers. Does that make more sense? I often whiff when trying to bang rebounds home unless they bounce right on my stick which is rare.
As for flip dumps, like I said even when I hold RB down for a long time I don't always get that super far flip dump, so I was curious if you knew exactly what I might have been doing to achieve it so I could find a way to avoid doing that in the future. Though it is promising that you might reconsider the length of the flip dump. The height is good though. The important thing is being able to dump it so that the defenseman can't easily pick up the puck and pass it off when it hits the ice.
The A.I. passing is as brutal as every other year, the tape to tape passing is too much. The puck never sits out on the ice, its always on someone's stick - almost magnetic. I thought there was supposed to be improved puck physics?
Timing is everything. Once you know the timing you should be able to win at least half against the computer. I'm actually having an easier time winning draws this year than in 09 for whatever reason.
Anyways, you want to pull back on the right stick exactly as the puck hits the ice. A lot of people will try to anticipate when the refs arm moves and will do it too early - be patient. Once you see his arm move wait until he brings his arm down to drop the puck. Mess around with it some and you'll get the hang of it.
One thing I forgot to mention is that the one-timers seem to be much improved too.
I saw some guys flub on them, or have to re-calibrate after a pass wasn't in the wheel house. And the CPU barely relies on them. This was awesome to see.
Remember, the demo doesn't have the "keep even" logic built in.
Hey you're the same dude posting in the teamxbox forums posting things like "FU EA". If you don't like the game and aren't interested in it thats cool but you don't have to try to convince everyone else not to buy it.
Personally I don't really mind the whole hockey shop thing but I wish the authentic looking hockey equipment gave your the same boosts as the crazy camo helmets and other silly looking equipment. So long as we can still unlock the equipment I don't see a problem with people not willing to play for endless hours to unlock the equipment being able to pay for it.
Money99 I also really like the one-timer effectiveness, it seems like you have to make a great pass to get it off right or else it will be intercepted or the shooter won't get everything on the shot.
1. Auto line changes still suck. Tired players don't attempt to change often enough, even when another line is prompted on the ice by the game.
2. I don't know if it's just me, but I've lost count of the amount of times I've attempted to pass and absolutely nothing happens which typically results in a turnover. I'm 100% sure it's not my controller as well. Hope it's fixed in the real game.
3. Why is saucer pass still on the pokecheck button? Not only does this bring back the annoying scenarios in 09 where you intercept a pass and throw a saucer pass behind you but now with the addition of boardplay when you're poking at the puck during boardplay fairly often you'll gain possession instantly and then throw the puck away for no reason. Come on EA, all these oversights make it seem like nobody actually spends time testing the game.
Oh yeah.
There are some things I'm going to want to tweak (in particular the CPU's pass accuracy) and definitely mess around with the player attribute separation slider.
But so far I'm really liking this game.
I absolutely love the puck physics. I've seen some crazy bounces and goals that I never saw in 09.
Goal mouth scrambles are awesome!
I love the no-assist checking in Hardcore mode but I can't handle the passing. Is there anyway to get that same checking in Normal mode?
The only thing I dislike about the Hardcore settings are the speeds of the passes.
If I can adjust it so I don't need to hold it down longer for a harder pass, I'll be extremely happy.
I love having no assist on passes and hitting. Putting together some nice passes through the neutral and offensive zones is very rewarding; as is lining up an opponent.
Another little problem left in form last year , Numerous times my players would fail to do what they were supposed to for me it was mostly when i tried to change player when on defense or when i tried to poke check that nothing would happen.
IBYCFOTA, from your experience does it happen mostly when the computer AI turns the pressure on? its like the AI is just saying i am going to score **** you.
Yep! Exactly. 90% of the time when it happens I'm being forechecked by the computer in my own zone. Last night in OT I kept mashing the pass button as Datsyuk was hunting me down. Nothing happened of course, and he stripped me of the puck and scored to win the Stanley Cup (in OT). I would have been mad but I had already won the Stanley Cup that day like ten times.

Please don't tune it too much. The puck doesn't leave the ice as much as it should already...
